| The agency’s acting director will tell Congress today that agents on the ground the night Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed never requested military assistance, Eli Lake reports. When the CIA’s acting director, Michael Morell, testifies Thursday before the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, he is expected to say that the agency never requested Europe-based special operations teams, specialized Marine platoons, or armed drones on the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi, Libya, according to a senior U.S. intelligence official. The disclosure may put an end to one line of inquiry into the Benghazi affair about why

The cover up continues.
When you are being shot at it is normal to call for back-up.
They are going to tell us that Navy SEALS are too stupid to call for back-up??
OK, all former and current military, tell us if you believe this bowl of BS.

The State department was the responsible agency when it came to providing protection for the ambassador and his staff. But no one is asking Hillary about it - she is on a wine tasting trip to australia, following up on her women´s issues conference in south america. The CIA is a covert agency. they would not want to call in the U.S. military to show their operations. The American embassy, often entangled with CIA operatives, is not a secret, covert agency. Broadwell and the Kelley twins are mere distractions.

Talk about parsing and the press letting them get by with it! Read carefully, the statements do not say the CIA did not ask for help, they say the CIA did not ask for "Europe-based special operations teams, specialized Marine platoons, or armed drones". Begs for a follow up!

silly question, probably irrelevant, but why do "senior military officers" need anyone planning parties for them?
Reminds me of an air force vet relative (in his late 20s now) refering to these brass as "pinkie-ringed."
Anyway, there is an elaborate cover-up going on for sure. I mis-read #1´s last phrase as, "tell us if you believe these bowels of BS." honest. Fits, though.

Who told the Navy Seals at the Annex to stand down for the first twenty to thirty minutes. When the Seals left the embassy to go back to the Annex, were they part of CIA or Department of Defense? Because they certainly did call for help. What government organizations heard those calls and ordered their teams to stand down? What moron thinks this parsing of the events is going to satisfy?

Their security force was gutted, their repeated requests for additional security staff denied, their facilities were below standards, the security force they were provided was by locals who bugged out, they were under attack by a superior number of hostiles, they were out-armed, and their superiors who are watching the battle unfold in real time did not call for rescue? And the answer we are to believe is that they did not call for help and we can all just move on? Yeah, that doesn´t stink at all./s

Fine, then join the crowd for trail on manslaughter charges. Before you do that though, you are fired and all pension/benefits are stripped for gross incompetence. BTW, it will be a military trial.
That would be the way it could happen... if this were the United States of about 1959.

Hmmmmm- RE: The Drone. What about the video´s in the media showing the beginning of the attack while the jihadists were milling around outside of the building prior to setting it on fire. Which Drone relayed those pics and Ms. Lamb from State already testified they watched in real time. Somethings just don´t ad up.

Abrupt retirement of Gen Carter Ham, AFRICOM Commander at the time of the 9/11 Benghazi attack attributed to family issue is bizarre on its face. It maybe so, but for a 4 Star General to disappear all of a sudden well-short of his tour should be explored further. The question would be why? Was he sending help to Libya and was told to stand down by Panneta, but refused? And what happened to Rear ADM Gaouette, Battle Group Commander of the Stennis? Why was he unceremoniously relieved in the middle of the deployment? So many questions, few answers.

The second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings was taken into custody Friday night, bringing to an end a massive manhunt in the tense Massachusetts capital worried by warnings the man was possibly armed with explosives. After announcing the arrest on Twitter, Boston police tweeted: “Captured!!! The hunt is over. The search is done. The terror is over. And justice has won. Suspect in custody.” (Snip) Police were alerted to his whereabouts by a man who went outside after authorities lifted an order for residents to stay inside during the manhunt. There were few complaints at the Woodruff polls as South Carolina´s new voter photo ID requirement was enforced for the first time in Spartanburg County. The re-do election for mayor in Woodruff is the first Spartanburg County election since the photo ID requirement went into effect Jan. 1. The law requires voters to show a S.C. driver´s license, Department of Motor Vehicles ID card, voter registration card with photo, federal military ID or a United States passport to cast a ballot. (Snip) The law was passed in 2012 as a measure to combat voter fraud, according to proponents.

To the world beyond the Beltway, it might not mean much that Bob Woodward of the famed Watergate duo went public with his recent White House run-in. This would be an oversight. (Snip) Distrust of media, encouraged by alternative media seeking to enhance their own standing, has become a tool useful to the very powers the Fourth Estate was constitutionally endowed to monitor. When the president can bypass reporters to reach the public, it is not far-fetched to imagine a time — perhaps now? — when the state controls the message.

There are two stories circulating around Bob Woodward this morning. (Snip) But the White House also wanted the issue to disappear until after the election, so in conjunction with Congress it proposed (and the President specifically endorsed) an enforcement mechanism called sequestration. In exchange for agreeing to a package of $1.2T in cuts with no revenues as a failsafe, Republicans agreed to raise the debt limit high enough that it would not be reached until after the election. The significant point is that the trigger for sequestration was not the same date as the implementation date.

This just in from our Republican Insider, who has been very busy of late regarding the impending sequestration conflict that is being played out 24/7 by the Mainstream Media and the Obama White House. (Snip) Word of that compromise got out and reached the White House. I am guessing it was someone working for Reid who relayed that information. Regardless, it was the very next day that a staffer for one of the Senators working the compromise deal received word from Legislative Affairs to not under any circumstances continue to produce a compromise, or publicize any such deal.

In a very oddly worded public response to a question posed to him during an online interview, Barack Obama dances around the topic of using military drones to kill Americans inside of the United States. (Snip) First he begins his answer by stating, “There has never been a drone used on an American citizen on American soil.” Barack Obama doesn’t say there never will be – or that he never intends to do so…he instead chooses – deliberatly, to say that such a thing has not happened…YET.. The president then gets into the meat of his prepared statement

I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
