Generals and
Geographic Bachelors

General David Petraeus illuminates two grand military issues at just the right moment: officer corps character and flag officer performance.(snip)be not distracted by any "honey trap" nonsense; cheating on wives is a military tradition, not a scandal. Officially, a remote tour is designated "unaccompanied," but overseas orders seldom require celibacy. Alas, unaccompanied officers are known in the trade as "geographic" bachelors. A senior officer is not busted for cheating; he gets drummed out of the corps for getting caught -- too visibly. And morality only becomes an issue when it embarrasses the Service.

Long story that say excactly what I said in my short post when the story broke.

Even 4-stars are not immune to a younger female, especially when you are stuck in an unfriendly country.

As Neal Boortz laughs every day, "Men are pigs." We are just built that way.

I´ll say it again. This guy was no warrior and neither is Allen. Look at their chests. No valor medals. This goes for the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Dempsey also.Obama has peopled the senior leadership with Potomac Princes who will be his yes men, but they are not warriors.I would not advise my sons or grandsons to serve under these men. I´m a retired Colonel with two silver stars, two DFC´s and a purple heart. Those are valor medals.

Possibly the answer to the military straying problem is to pre-emptively castrate all service men. They have been trying to do it since the 80´s. Might as well make it official. Then the military will be all the morality police wants it to be.
Women get married to get a stable home in which to raise children. Men get married to get a stable source of...relief. When that source is interrupted for any reason, eyes begin to wander. You can only stop human nature for so long.

Every trip to the war zone involves a "Last Chance" jumping off point.

For the thousands and thousands of DoD civilian contractors the last party is in Dubai.

....and what a party it is !

(I´ve been told.)

Gatta post this quick before my significant other sees it.

Thank you for your service, and for your candor #3.

When I was in the Navy in the 60´s and 70´s you could visit a watering hole and count on meeting a couple of "Westpac Widows," who´s husbands were away on a 13-month cruise and they were "lonely." So the knife slices both ways.

The "Boomers" (Polaris Missile submarines)had alternating Blue and Gold crews on six-month rotations and there were lots of stories of "adaptive" households. When the Blue Sailor was deployed the Gold Sailor moved in, and visa versa.

#3, these non-warrior generals will soon be taking orders from a traitor with a chest full of undeserved valor medals that he didn´t throw away.

I´m glad you pointed this out. I was talking to a Vietnam veteran and we were trying to figure out how these guys got such an array of color for their uniforms. Petraeus was never in combat before making Major General. So almost all the medals on his chest are for desk jobs.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

Remember president Obama´s first pitch of the MLB 2010 season at the Washington Nationals ballpark? It sailed towards the home team dugout. While he couldn´t throw a baseball within ten feet of home plate -- even if it took a double bounce on the way in -- Obama has tossed perfect incendiary strikes inside his own clubhouse, sending his entire team to the disabled list, demoted to the minor leagues, or banned from the game for life. In fact Obama´s entire liberal-progressive league has forfeited the rest of the season -- and then some.

Hey, liberals! Obama thinks you are stupid. Yeah, he really does. He knew Benghazi was terrorism before he didn´t know it was terrorism. Addressing a question about Benghazi in his press conference Monday, May 13, 2013, Obama´s "logic" really made an impression: "The Day after it happened I acknowledged that this was an act of terrorism." What person ever says what he really knows at a funeral? Eulogies bearing little or no resemblance to the deceased or to the facts are trotted out by people who are often bad actors, who though they know better, lie anyway. It´s almost acceptable behavior. But any truth about the deaths of U.S. Ambassador Christ Stevens and three other Americans appears to have been put six feet under as far as our current administration is concerned. Somewhere, Andrew Breitbart is smiling. You can almost see the metaphorical light bulbs going on in bubbles over the heads of liberal media figures. Obama loyalists are expressing outrage at the subpoenaing of the phone records of 20 lines serving over a hundred AP reporters. The timing could not be better.(snip) the AP scandal´s significance entirely lies with its effect on the media´s mindset on Obama. They have been cheerleading for him for six years,

Philadelphia abortionist Kermit Gosnell was convicted yesterday on three counts of first-degree murder, not to mention a slew of other charges, including involuntary manslaughter (for the death of 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar), infanticide, and abortions past Pennsylvania´s legal limit. (snip)in a culture dominated by the 24-hour news cycle, it will be easy for Americans to consider the abortion issue closed with the Gosnell verdict. The pro-life movement´s challenge, as [Lila] Rose says, is to keep the American people focused on how common Gosnell-like practices are in the abortion industry, and on all the unsung victims abortion

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
