| The second-term curse goes like this: A president (e.g., Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and so on) wins reelection, but then his presidency implodes over the next four years — mired in scandals or disasters such as Watergate, Iran-Contra, Monica Lewinsky, the Iraqi insurgency, and Hurricane Katrina. Apparently, like tragic Greek heroes, administrations grow arrogant after their reelection wins. They believe that they are invincible and that their public approval is permanent rather than fickle. The result is that Nemesis zeroes in on their fatal conceit and with a boom corrects their hubris.

Another first-class article from VDH. Well worth a read for its catalog of the bizarre string of post-election revelations we´ve just lived through.

Much as I would love to see The Won´s second term implode (and I know that is petty of me), I don´t think the press will allow it. They will cover up everything that would reflect negatively on their Precious One.

If it should implode, the MFM will only cover it as a July 4 NChaser going off.

VDH does not take into account the lengths the media will go to protect Zerobama and the lengths liberals will go to to ignore any scandal. The day after the election, libs were saying that Zero had a scandal-free first term. It´s mind-boggling how they can delude themselves.

None of the stuff in the article matters a whit to anybody. None of it is the presidents fault. He is perfect. Still.
obama is awesome.
Besides, he gives us free stuff.

I disagree with VDH´s premise, which states that Obama´s second term is imploding due to his arrogance from having been re-elected.
His FIRST term imploded and what we´re seeing now is only happening now because of problems that were accrued to post election.
He is a disaster from day ONE. Not only in his second term.

Not gonna happen and even if it did, the media and the fawning useful idiots will not care. This is America´s worst nightmare and it is not going to just "implode" away.

The only problem is Obama has the media more in his pocket than his predecessors,so he can get away with anything.Everything is a minor distraction, not a scandal.

Prof Hanson might fail in realizing that Obama-Mao has been out to destroy the American way of life since the get go! He has been succeeding beyond his wildest dreams and continues to do so.
Each event that creates chaos and drains America´s resources, etc. is a victory for Obama and his pals, marching us faster and further to the end of this creation, the USA as the greatest and best country on the planet...which they too want to control via the UN.
Your greatest enemy sleeps with you...

A Director of the CIA is vetted by Congress to assure that he has no weaknesses that a hostile foreign power could use to blackmail him. Congress missed the weakness that allowed General Petraeus to be blackmailed by a hostile foreign power – Barack Hussein Obama.

Contrary to the thoughts expressed by other readers, this article gives me hope that Obama´s second term will not give him comfort and may yet unravel. Think Nixon, Clinton, and Bush. Let the gloat begin!!

The second term curse normally happens naturally because of actions taken or not taken early in the second term. What is unique about Obama is the huge pile of bombs that he has "frozen" to make the mechanism delay until after the election. Add to that all the government management decisions he postponed to 1/1/2013. Unless the GOP allows themselves to become the patsy, this is going to all blow Jan 1. Imagine what the paycheck of someone making 2,000 a month is going to look like at the end of January. The Dems have, and that is why they are accusing the GOP of holding The People hostage. Let the existing law stand with everyone paying more and government spending less. When the screaming starts, Reid and Obama may be willing to talk.

OVER the last decade, the United States has become a less violent country in every way save one. As Americans commit fewer and fewer crimes against other people’s lives and property, they have become more likely to inflict fatal violence on themselves. In the 1990s, the suicide rate dipped with the crime rate. But since 2000, it has risen, and jumped particularly sharply among the middle-aged. The suicide rate for Americans 35 to 54 increased nearly 30 percent between 1999 and 2010; for men in their 50s, it rose nearly 50 percent. More Americans now die of suicide

In the days after the Benhazi attack, the State Department scurried to cover up its failure to heed warnings of such attacks while the White House scurried to cover up the fact that that attacks were the work of al Qaeda-linked terrorists of the sort President Obama supposedly had largely vanquished. The final Benghazi “talking points” and Susan Rice’s talk show appearances represent the product of this scurrying. To help advance the narrative that the Benghazi attacks were spontaneous, and thus (a) not to have been anticipated and (b) not linked to al Qaeda,

TORONTO - Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, a target of criticism for his often unconventional conduct, on Friday denied media allegations that he had been caught on video smoking crack cocaine. "Absolutely not true," Ford told reporters gathered outside his west Toronto house, before driving off in his SUV. Reporters for the Toronto Star and Gawker Media said late on Thursday they had watched a cellphone video that appears to show Ford smoking crack, although both news outlets said they had declined to pay the $100,000 price asked by the tipsters,

SAN DIEGO — In the ocean off Coronado, a Navy team has discovered a relic worthy of display in a military museum: a torpedo of the kind deployed in the late 19th century, considered a technological marvel in its day. But don´t look for the primary discoverers to get a promotion or an invitation to meet the admirals at the Pentagon - although they might get an extra fish for dinner or maybe a pat on the snout. The so-called Howell torpedo was discovered by bottlenose dolphins being trained by the Navy to find undersea objects, including mines,

It must be George W. Bush’s fault. Everything else is. The moonbats’ verdict is in. Barack Obama couldn’t possibly have done all those terrible things the vast right-wing conspiracy is accusing him of. And they’re not scandals, either. Obama’s troubles are merely “controversies” or, to use Dear Leader’s own phrase, a sideshow. Scandals only happen to Republicans, just like Deval Patrick didn’t go on a junket to Ireland. It was a “trade mission.” Democrats never make mistakes either — “mistakes were made,” in the passive voice.

Jay Carney insists Benghazi, Libya, is not a scandal, but then he doesn’t admit to having misled the media about the origin of the attacks. The administration now tells CBS News, “We’re portrayed by Republicans as either being lying or idiots. It’s actually closer to us being idiots.” It would be nice if the source specified what part(s) of the administration were idiotic and why it’s “closer” but not all attributable to incompetence. The problem with claiming incompetence is two-fold. First, it raises the question as to where the president was on Sept. 11, 2012,

The standard police warning about con men applies to politicians, as well: When they tell you something that sounds too good to be true, it usually is. So it goes with the White House claim that it knew nothing — nothing! — about the targeting of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service. Of course the White House knew. And we already have the first piece of evidence. The Friday hearing on what amounted to political profiling of anti-Obama groups took a huge step toward demolishing White House efforts to distance itself from the scandal. The agency’s inspector general testified

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

Washington – Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, issued a video statement Friday in response to reports that the Internal Revenue Service unfairly targeted conservative nonprofit groups. (Snip) “There’s a reason Lady Justice wears a blindfold in America. That is because in America, we don’t apply the law based on who you are, who you know, or what you believe. The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part

The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.
