| Life is approaching a new normal for many in New York and New Jersey after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the northeast two weeks ago. Lingering destruction, however, means it may take months to rebuild. Con Edison reported in a statement on Monday that “the largest customer restoration effort in Con Edison’s history is wrapping up.” Hurricane Sandy and the subsequent nor’easter knocked out power for more than one million customers, according to the utility company. The last customers in Westchester were having electricity restored as of Monday morning.

Comments: Life has to go on for these poor people. I´m guessing that once they get their heads wrapped around it, they´ll leave and not come back, like many did after Katrina. Much to the chagrin of Texas and other surrounding states.

Glad we´re putting the big money into slick obamaPhones and Food Stamps, rather than burying those old boring power lines.

I have a simple question. Why is FEMA´s budget around $8 billion a year and the energy dept. is around $50 billion a year and they don´t produce an ounce of energy? Of course it´s a money grab bag for leftist thieves but even so.
FEMA is broke despite spending little money on actual disasters. They had a billion surplus from last year so why did they sell 100´s of perfectly good trailers off at below firesale prices?
Whenever you think you´ve seen the ultimate stupidity and criminality of the left, forget it because tomorrows another day.

Here in CT ( wealthiest per capita state) our shoreline and interior took a huge hit. Bless the out of state linemen who came to help us. uess how our governor is repaying them? They have to pay TAXES on income earned while working here....even if they are from states that have no income tax! http://blog.ctnews.com/financialmines/2012/11/13/emergency-crews-will-pay-taxes-to-connecticut/

Where are all the stories about how this type of storm hitting NY & NJ has been predicted for years and why they were not prepared?
Also, these areas have flooded more often than New Orleans from storms.

The mismanagement of Hurricane Sandy relief by the Federal and States Government is atrocious compared to Hurricane Katrina. We won´t see anything about it in print though, will we......

Yesterday we saw a convoy of Dominion Power trucks headed south on Rt 13,probably going back to Va. Beach. Guess their services were no longer needed. Talked to a lady in NYC, she lives in Brooklyn. No power. No heat. Gas is still on so they can boil water for washing up. Lots of damage to their power lines, don´t know when they will get power. She goes to work every day, and cannot get warm no matter what. She does not want to go to a shelter because of her 16 year old daughter. I don´t see any scenario where FEMA or any agency will put her up in a hotel. Those rooms are for FEMA and relief workers. It´s a big mess up there and only some communities are able to pull together and make some sort of life until services are restored. The media is not giving enough atta boy´s to the SA and other organizations like churches. They act like the RC is the only game in town. Send money...yeah, great til some higher up misuses that money and the victims see squat.

The U.S. court system is built upon the Sixth Amendment, which entitles Americans to a fair and speedy trial with an impartial jury. And now, thanks to the increasing use of Urban Dictionary in our courts, Americans also enjoy the right to a trial in the slang of their choosing. How else could county court handle a dispute between two “ratchets?” (Snip) Understandably, the legal use of a website that allows its users to crowdsouce the definitions of “twerking” and “Eskimo brother” can be polarizing.

As you may have heard, Kevin Williamson made the leap from “National Review writer” to “Great American Hero” last night when he decided that enough was enough, that he could no longer idly stand by and watch the shameful state of affairs in our nation’s theaters go unchallenged, that he had to take matters into his own hands. From his account: The lady seated to my immediate right (very close quarters on bench seating) was fairly insistent about using her phone. I asked her to turn it off. She answered: “So don’t look.

Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Ala.) entered a letter from law enforcement officials nationwide warning of the dangers of the immigration bill S.744 into the judiciary committee record today. The letter To Congress from the National Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Council of the American Federation of Government Employees Affiliated with AFL-CIO warns of the discretionary power the bill gives to “political appointees” and takes away from law enforcers: “Congress can and must take decisive steps to limit the discretion of political appointees and empower ICE and CBP to perform their respective missions

The American ammo shortage has been a boon for foreign ammo makers as ammunition imports into the U.S. doubled during the first months of 2013. According to data from the Commerce Department and the International Trade Commission, imports of ammo cartridges as well as shotguns have just about doubled during the first two months of 2013. For the first two months of 2013, about 457 million cartridges were imported into the U.S. — more than double the amount of cartridges that were imported during the first two months of 2012.

The House was in no rush to take up an internet tax bill that senators approved Monday night. And even if the House takes up the issue, lawmakers said, it will be a bill very different from the Seante´s. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, R-Va., said to expect “thoughtful” consideration in the House, which will involve committee debate and amendments. The version passed in the Senate by a 69-27 vote “has a long way to go,” Goodlatte said Monday.

The Montgomery County Council approved a trio of pay raises for union employees, which will cost the county almost $32 million in fiscal 2014. The council approved the firefighters, police and county government employees union packages 8-1, with only Councilman Phil Andrews, D-Gaithersburg/Rockville, voting against the contracts. He repeatedly has said they´re too high and unsustainable. Though the packages span two years, the council approved only the first year of the deals, which would give employees an average of 7 to 10 percent raises.

For months now, men have been starving themselves in Guantanamo Bay to get the attention of the American people. And for weeks these men, prisoners of the War on Terror, many of whom have been cleared for release, have had the attention of the White House, which is filled with officials, including the President, who sympathize with the prisoners’ plight. “It’s not sustainable,” President Obama said Tuesday, breaking his silence about the protest against his own government. “I mean, the notion that we’re going to continue to keep over 100 individuals in a no-man’s land in perpetuity."

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

Fox News chief Roger Ailes has sent a memo to his subordinates at the leading cable news network. He sent this memo to his staff today in connection with the federal investigation into an alleged leak to Fox News reporter James Rosen, a story that the Washington Post’s Ann E. Marimow broke earlier this week. The memo’s a masterpiece, too. For all those who wonder what it is about Ailes that endears his people to him — and that makes him such a good interviewee for any media reporter lucky enough to get an audience

WASHINGTON —In a dramatic departure from existing White House procedures, President Obama requested today that his staff start cc’ing him on stuff. “Look, I know a lot of you think I’m really busy and you don’t want to bother me,” the President reportedly told his staff in an Oval Office meeting. “But cc me anyway. It’s good for me to keep up on what’s going on around here.” “It’s not good when I turn on the news and they’re talking about something at the White House and I’m like, whoa, when did that happen?”
