Red Cross spent $181,000 to put up
Sandy relief workers in Manhattan´s
upscale Soho Grand hotel

While tens of thousands of victims of Hurricane Sandy continue to struggle without power or heat, many of them homeless or living in damaged houses, some fortunate relief workers have been staying at a luxury Manhattan hotel since arriving in town to help with the aftermath of the storm. Representatives from American Red Cross and Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) said that the two agencies booked a total of 48 rooms in the upscale SoHo Grand to house some of the relief workers at a discounted nightly rate of $310 a room.

Comments:
Rich with photos, per Daily Mail style.

Volunteers were housed in grand style while top execs crashed on people´s living-room couches and floors, no doubt.

Charge soldiers for donuts, house workers in upscale hotels at $310 a night, wasteful.

Reason to give only to the Salvation Army, a no brainer.

Red Cross and the United Way, two of the biggest scams going.

No wonder they didn´t want Mitt´s canned goods; they prefer cash...

Red Cross is famous for things like this. They have an almost million dollar CEO and highly paid executive staff. Their overhead is tremendous. That´s why they always ask for cash. They have favored suppliers too who give them kickbacks for business. A personal experience of a friend of mine is the Red Cross asked for payback from a family with a sick child when the family got back on its feet somewhat.

In Haiti Earthquake only 25% of what was donated to the Red Cross made it to the victims. And they stepped it up when they were called out on it. They were called out on 9/11 too.

Salvation Army is the way to go. They have many volunteers and are often the first on the scene. Or donate to your faith if you don´t agree with the Salvation Army´s religious bent. I don´t agree with them on the religious beliefs. But their charity - much of it volunteer - is stellar.

You can donate goods to Salvation Army too. Or donate to your faith. Catholic charities and Baptists were on the scene with the Salvation Army with food and supplies before the Red Cross could even catch a breath.

People on Staten Island said the Red Cross was giving them hot chocolate and cookies. Salvation Army, Catholic Charities, Baptists, Mormons, etc. were giving them blankets, hot meals, diapers, toothbrushes, personal items, etc.

The MSM said nothing about the work the Salvation Army was doing. All you heard about was the Red Cross.

All the more reason to donate to... the Salvation Army!

The Red Cross has gotten its late $ from me.

Liberals are always going to self reward before anybody else gets a dime. Some of these big name charities are ran by leftists behind the scenes. We already saw that with Susan Komen.

I heard the salvation Army doesn´t take donations from gambling winnings. How weird is that in today´s greed infested world.

I guess they wanted to live like the Occupy Wall Street protesters.

Of course, the businesses in New York seem to be well involved in price gouging.

A friend of mine, from here in Texas, is in NY/NJ as a claims adjuster handling flood claims. He stayed in a non-descript hotel in Brooklyn, one that would be at best $80-100 a night, where they charged $500.

He moved out after one night.

I stopped donating to the Red Cross and United Way years ago. All of my donations go to the Salvation Army. SA will even come to your home and pick up large or bulky donations.

The Red Cross is incapable of handling major events. State National and Reserves are best as well a Federal Military.

Think, Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina when they had to be called in.

The R.C. should be out to the natural disaster business .......... except for small localized fires, floods and twisters.

And dump FEMA as well!!!

Trenton — As Congress debates an overhaul to the federal immigration system, New Jersey lawmakers again took up controversial legislation today that would allow students living in the country illegally to pay in-state tuition at the state’s public colleges. The bill, dubbed the “Tuition Equality Act,” was approved by the state Assembly Budget Committee after a lengthy hearing in Trenton. The crowd in the chamber, which included immigrant students who have been pushing for the change for years, cheered as the committee moved the bill. The legislation will now go to the full Assembly for a vote.

Passengers on NJ Transit’s No. 113 Express bus were taken on a ride from hell during Thursday’s morning rush when a lost driver took a really scenic route to New York, leaving commuters nearly two hours late for work. The express from Dunellen to the Port Authority Bus Terminal became a local—and then some. Passenger Aileen Iosso sent this text to her boss: "I don’t know where I am and I don’t know when I’ll be in." She said she boarded her usual express bus in Cranford around 7 a.m., expecting to arrive at the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan

Chicago — Former President Bill Clinton sat down with Gov. Chris Christie today to talk about New Jersey´s recovery from Hurricane Sandy—touching on the state´s emotional connection to the Shore, the need for another source of flood insurance, and the governor´s famous "get the hell off the beach" comment. The interview closed out a three-day conference in Chicago held by the Clinton Global Initiative, the organization Clinton founded. Sandy devastated New Jersey—especially its shoreline—last fall, leaving million without power and seriously damaging hundreds of thousands of homes. In all, New Jersey suffered $39 billion in property damage.

Former Florida governor Jeb Bush (R) argued Wednesday that the United States should pass immigration reform because the U.S. economy needs the labor of young immigrants, and immigrants are “more fertile.” “Immigrants create far more businesses than native-born Americans,” Bush said at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s Road to the Majority conference. “Immigrants are more fertile, and they love families, and they have more intact families, and they bring a younger population. Immigrants create an engine of economic prosperity.” Bush said immigrants are an advantage that the United States has over China, Europe and Japan, which don’t have the same

Vienna - Wanted: A jester. Wallflowers need not apply. It´s no joke. An Austrian hotel is advertising for a modern-day court fool, who is communicative, extroverted, musical, creative and imaginative. Applicants are asked to bring—and play—their musical instrument during the job interview. Also welcome: creative costumes. The successful candidate will earn 1,400 euros—around $1,900—a month. Hotel director Melanie Franke says those interested should not think they´re on a fool´s errand in applying. She says the idea is to treat guests like royalty, noting that "jesters were a luxury that royal families indulged themselves in."

America´s tipping point:
Whites to be minority in children

For the first time, America´s racial and ethnic minorities now make up about half of the under-5 age group and will be a majority by this year or next. That´s according to new census numbers that show a faster shift than expected toward a minority-majority, one where whites will be in the minority by 2043. The new estimates also show that, for the fist time in more than a century, the death rate for white Americans outnumbers the birth rate. Just a year ago, numbers showed that whites had fallen to a minority among babies. Fueled by immigration

It´s brought to you by the letter P — for prison. PBS’s "Sesame Street" is moving from ABCs and counting numbers to offering its young viewers a bigger lesson in life: how to cope when Mommy or Daddy lands behind bars. Called "Little Children, Big Challenges: Incarceration," the program is distributing "tool kits" to schools, community centers and even jails in 10 states — including New York — starting today to help kids ages 3 to 8, organizers said. According to one "tip" for caregivers, "Before you visit your incarcerated loved one, let your child know some of the things she can expect

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
