Immigrant group balks
at Obama reform wording

An advocacy group for young immigrants expressed concern Wednesday after President Barack Obama, at his first press conference in months, said he would support "a pathway for legal status" for those living in the country illegally. That Obama used the phrase "legal status" instead of "citizenship" raised alarm bells for some deep in the weeds of immigration advocacy, since some more conservative immigration reformers think the estimated 11 million people living in the country illegally should be given legal status but not the opportunity to become citizens. "He looked like he sidestepped around

Didn´t they get the message? You have to keep voting Democrat for 40 years, then you´ll get some crumbs. By that time you´ll forget why you are voting Democrat in the first place.

Above posters appear to think that BHO is cheating his natural constituency. Nope. He´s cheating Americans.

Sounds like: They get to stay, they get to work. They get all the modern welfare state goodies. OK, they don´t get to vote, but once they ´retire´ they likely get SS and Medicare. This sounds like a good deal to me and if I were an illegal and could figure out a way to vote - I´d vote Dem until I died and even after that.

Meanwhile low skilled blacks and whites get screwed. But who cares about them?

The Republicans should never go along with any liberal Democrat amnesty that eventually grants 12-20 million illegal aliens US voting rights. If the Republicans do that they will be handing the liberal Democrats many millions of socialist oriented foreign born voters in the coming years and committing long-term political suicide.

Any amnesty should be limited to a deferred action status with a US work permit that must be extended from time to time. If those aliens want to apply for permanent resident status they should have to meet the same requirements that legal immigrants must meet when they apply for an immigrant visa to come to he USA. That´s only fair.

These are the ingrates to whom the GOP is supposed to grovel? How many votes do you think they will grant in return for another amnesty? My guess is zero.

Oh, you mean this is going the way of Ohiowans` food stamp cuts? Wait till unemployment starts running it´s term starting en mass in December. Right before Christmas. They are already preparing a bill to extend it. Will they or won´t they? The truth will bear out in coming days. It was timed perfectly, if Romney won, to test the Republican mettle. But Obama now has no need to buy votes. It should be interesting.

NO citizenship. US laws on immigration allow the newly minted citizen to also import everyone they call family. The US population will immediately rise by 100,000,000. No doubt all will collect welfare.

Here we go.

Most believe there are some limitations to what he can do "with a stroke of his pen". Conferring citizenship on those who have come here illegally is one of them.

There is a process.

Was reading about Lebanon yesterday. Although they have allowed Palestinian refugees into their country, they have not given them many rights - such as property ownership. As I recall they cannot attend the country´s schools. They do not have the benefits that citizenship confers. The Christian Lebanese do not want the Muslims to take over their country and its institutions.

Gospel story of Jesus’ resurrection a
source of deep rifts in Christian religion

“On the third day, he rose again.” That line, from the Nicene Creed, is a foundational statement of Christian belief. It declares that three days after Jesus died on the cross, he was resurrected, a glimmer of the eternal life promised to believers. It’s the heart of the Easter story in seven little words. But how that statement is interpreted is the source of some of the deepest rifts in Christianity — and a stumbling block for some Christians, and more than a few skeptics. Did Jesus literally come back from the dead in a bodily resurrection, as many traditionalist

´8THEIST´ license plate in NJ: Why
states can´t rein in the vanity plate monster

If you can get a New Jersey vanity license plate that reads “BAPTIST,” why not one that reads “8THEIST”? That’s the question Shannon Morgan, a self-describe atheist, is asking in a lawsuit after the New Jersey department of motor vehicles denied her vanity plate application. Her main complaint is a bureaucracy deeming that “8THEIST” has connotations that offend “good taste and decency,” the bar which the state uses to judge the suitability of personalized plate messages. She also wants the state to adopt a more “viewpoint-neutral” vanity plate approval policy, since when she typed “BAPTIST” into the DMV application it

When Chelsea Clinton announced Thursday that she’s pregnant, it took the media about two nanoseconds to home in on what that really means: Hillary, should she run for president in 2016, will campaign as a grandmother. (Snip) And for another, Hillary’s newfound role as grandmother isn’t necessarily a political boon. As I wrote in the Washington Monthly’s current issue, it could very easily cut both ways. After all, Hillary, who will be 68 in 2016, already runs the risk of appearing old, a vulnerability not lost on her detractors. From the Monthly: (At sixty-six, Hillary is “not particularly old for

Chef Vered Guttman braved the challenge of preparing a White House Passover seder in line with Michelle Obama´s healthy eating guidelines and lived to tell her story. "The traditional seder fare is hardly fresh or healthy," Guttman wrote in a post-dinner review about incorporating vegetable sides to "offset some of the Jewish carbs" like gefilte fish and matzo ball soup. And her hard work to keep it healthy paid off, as both the President and First Lady praised her quinoa-kale salad and even inquired after the recipe. Guttman, a D.C. based caterer, worked with White House executive chef Cris Comerford

A new poll shows former secretary of state Hillary Clinton´s (D) numbers hitting their lowest point in six years. Meanwhile, it finds that the Republican Party is experiencing something of a renaissance. The Fox News poll, from Democratic pollster Anderson Robbins Research and GOP pollster Shaw & Company, shows Clinton´s favorable rating dropping to 49 percent, compared to 45 percent unfavorable. The last time her numbers were in that ballpark was during the 2008 Democratic presidential primary race. After she ended her campaign, her favorable/unfavorable split was 47/46. Other polls have shown Clinton´s numbers --

DENVER | Colorado Democrats abandoned their own divisive abortion proposal Wednesday, axing the bill after one lawmaker expressed indecision and it became clear they might not have the votes to pass it in a chamber where every vote matters. Democrats used a legislative maneuver to shelve a bill that would have banned any state regulation of reproductive decisions such as abortion and contraception. It had been scheduled for a vote Wednesday evening in the Senate, where the party holds a slim one-seat majority. The move came after Sen. John Kefalas, D-Fort Collins, said he wasn’t sure if the measure was

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

For Hillary Clinton, having her own baby grandchild to kiss on the campaign trail, could be one of the biggest boosts to her possible presidential election campaign. Although the former Secretary of State and First Lady has not said if she will run in 2016, the arrival of her first grandchild will soften her image, analysts have said. While Chelsea only revealed her pregnancy on Thursday, supporters of her mother have already started cooing over a possible baby in the White House. With the Clintons having a near-royal status in the U.S., the announcement of a new arrival due this fall has sent

GREENSBORO, Ga. — Golf holes the size of pizzas. Soccer balls on the back nine. A mulligan on every hole. These are some of the measures — some would say gimmicks — that golf courses across the country have experimented with to stop people from quitting the game. Golf has always reveled in its standards and rich tradition. But increasingly a victim of its own image and hidebound ways, golf has lost five million players in the last decade, according to the National Golf Foundation, with 20 percent of the existing 25 million golfers apt to quit in the next few years. People under 35 have especially spurned the game, saying it takes too

Hi, everybody. For millions of Americans, this time of year holds great meaning. Earlier this week, we hosted a Passover Seder at the White House, and joined Jewish families around the world in their re-tellings of the story of the Exodus and the victory of faith over oppression. And this Sunday, Michelle, Malia, Sasha, and I will join our fellow Christians around the world in celebrating the Resurrection of Christ, the salvation he offered the world, and the hope that comes with the Easter season. These holy days have their roots in miracles that took place long ago. And yet, they still inspire us, guide us, and strengthen us today. They remind us of our

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that a family of dissident ranchers and their supporters in his home state of Nevada are ´domestic terrorists,´ citing this week´s standoff with the federal government´s Bureau of Land Management. Cliven Bundy has refused to pay grazing fees for land where his hundreds of cattle roam every day. The land is owned by the federal government, which says he owes more than $1 million. Bundy, however, insists that since his family has been using the land since the 1870s, Uncle Sam can´t collect the grazing fees. A tense standoff developed this week after
