| Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday that he will not allow changes in Social Security to be part of the negotiations to avoid a federal budget fiscal cliff, further narrowing the opportunities for savings that could be tapped to close the deficit. Republicans have insisted that big entitlement programs such as Medicare, Social Security and Medicaid be part of the end-of-year negotiations to head off tax-rate increases and the $110 billion in automatic spending cuts. But Mr. Reid said Democrats have already made changes to Medicare as part of President Obama´s health law,

Unfortunately, instead of the house passing a continuing resolution for military, and shutting down the government instead of agreeing to raising the spending cap, and holding firm on no new taxes, they´ll cave. And then complain they had no choice or it would be used as a political weapon. If only there was one spine among them.

Whatever they do, it will be used against them. If and when disaster happens, it will be blamed on the Republicans.

The Dems have the Senate and WH. That allows them to whipsaw Boehner.
When some deal seems possible between Boehner and the WH Reid can block it.
When the House and Senate can agree the WH can object.
And don´t forget McConnell and the hapless GOP Senators will, in the right circumstance, be able to block some item or another too.
In paper the House has great powers. In practice they don´t. Obama has scornfully run the country for two years w/o the House. When pressed he will just issue orders. Who can stop him?
Deadlock, gridlock, stalemate. Call it what you wish, the system doesn´t work for the nation. It works for the powerful in Washington.
It is just theater there. Let the good times roll on.

Way too many people, especially the young, believe the propaganda put out by the press, democrats, and the entertainment industry. Until the GOP starts fighting back hard against this Nazi-like crap the GOP will lose more and more.

Hey Dems, you passed it, live with it! GOP, what is there to negotiate? The Dems want higher taxes and cuts to Military and Entitlements and have already passed the laws. Stay out of the process. Let the White House and the Senate write any proposed laws.

Let current tax rates expire and spending cuts be implemented (fiscal cliff). Then require further real spending cuts to raise debt limit. Finally, require further real spending cuts to implement new tax cuts when everyone starts screaming about their taxes. Box in the Demorats and require additional spending reductions to do anything they want.

Very true #2. So they should just sit back and give the socialists every penny they ask for. On fiscal issues just tell the socialists "its all yours, sink or swim on your own". The socialists will still attempt to blame them if the economy tanks again (it will) but only the truly brain dead won´t see through it.

Harry "Hemmor" Reid is one of the most remarkably sleazy men in the Senate. I cannot imagine what they have on him that makes him so detestable and odious. But, the good people of Nevada are apparently not sick of him yet. I am boycotting Nevada because of this. Truly, he is a hemmorhoid of the highest magnitude.

The popularity of Obamacare has crashed to its lowest level in nearly two years, according to a new Kaiser Family Foundation poll. Kaiser´s monthly tracking poll found that just 35 percent have a favorable view of the health reform being put into place Jan. 1 while 43 percent view it unfavorably. The favorability rating of Obamacare has been worse only once, in October 2011, when it fell to 34 percent. An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
