| I have never met an unassuming four-star general. If such creatures do exist, it’s a safe bet that they’re lousy at the job. This is worth keeping in mind when puzzling over the scandals of Gen. David Petraeus and, now it seems, his successor in Afghanistan, Gen. John Allen. Consider what a general does, especially a commanding general in wartime: He sends his soldiers into battle, knowing that some of them will die as a result of his decisions. That is the nature of the job, and has been for millennia. That doesn’t necessarily make generals bloodthirsty

Read a quote from General Grant wherein he stated that "A soldier that won´t fornicate won´t fight". He used the 4 letter f word rather than fornicate.
It does seem to go with the profession from private to general.

On the other hand, #1, I´m having a hard time imagining either Robert E. Lee or Stonewall Jackson pulling a Petraeus, so to speak.
But it was an interesting article, particularly the part about the reason for the enforcement of the code of military justice and the cultivation of the myth.

Generals who care about their missions and their troops, in that order, are much too busy to have much free time on their hands and they´re too exhausted to cheat.
On the other hand, those politcal animals who only care about their careers seem to have plenty of free time.

Ditto, #3. I am sure there were a few on both sides who dallied then but I would be willng to bet that there were very few.
Some of this nationwide morality collapse can be blamed on our former CIC, BJ Clinton. He certainly lowered the bar for all our so-called leaders.

My Hero, General Creighton Abrams said that if a man cheats on his wife he will cheat on the Army and I agree! I had a young Lieutenant in my Troop who had a affair with a Staff Sergeants wife and within three months the Lieutenant was drummed out of the Army.

We are in an Army town (my son-in-law is currently stationed overseas). I have learned that the Military is not what it used to be.
It’s not just the camp followers that behave like tramps and dress like hookers now. One high ranking NCO wife freely discusses her open marriage; husband, boyfriend and lovers. I am continually surprised at what passes for acceptable dress even among the officers’ wives. There is still a dress code on the books, but no one enforces it. Why should they when the adultery rules are being ignored.

More important question: why do Presidents lie and why does the MSM do everything possible to cover for them. Oh, that´s right they only do that for corrupt leftist presidents. Why is military integrity of the highest concern when Bill Clinton got caught all we heard was "Oh, they all do it." This is just a diversion to protect Obama the wrong evil doers are being sacrificed just for cover. If this is not the case a second more sinister plot is a foot, replace Flag Officers who will not go along with a Marxist take over to be replaced by the Wesley Clark´s hidden in the military establishment who would order troops to fire on those wacky secessionist or evil Tea Partiers. It´s coming folks, can you feel it?

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
