President Obama and the heads of several labor unions and prominent liberal groups met at the White House on Tuesday at an event that was more pep rally than negotiating session. Obama and the participants largely focused on areas on which they agree: in particular, the need to extend low tax rates for the middle class while letting them expire for wealthier households, according to people who attended the 45-minute meeting. There was much less talk about possible areas of disagreement between Obama and his progressive partners, such as on cuts to entitlement spending.
This was nothing but an asinine stunt being chaired by the most asinine president in US history.
It´s completely disgusting that the MSM in this country would rather see the country go down the tubes than have their wonder boy tarnished in any way.
Anybody that thinks the left would be happy and go away with a tax increase on the rich are crazy. You´re going to see "fat tax" proposals soon enough as fast food is targeted also. Who cares if they introduce millions of workers into the workforce in low skilled jobs. The left doesn´t care who it kills off in their lust for more revenue.
It´s a matter of self survival. The left is dead in the water without government funding. And they consume trillions in the process.Even iwth trillions in government spending the growth rate is 1.5-2%,so how does that happen.
Wealth redistribution is actually middle class wealth going to rich liberals at the top and poor liberals at the bottom, that´s why you see no growth out of massive gov´t spending.Rich liberals sit on their money and poor liberals spend on things like drugs and cheap merchandise made overseas.
The Small Business Administration has been co-opted by the social justice crowd. These people know ways to bilk the government out of loans in which they´´re held personally harmless.Just look at how the Solyndra crooks made off with their personal money intact, sticking the taxpayers with the losses.Stealing gov´t money is a disease with liberals.
I wonder how much this Party-to-thank-his-leftist-supporters at the W.H cost the TAXPAYERS in this Country yesterday. BTW, anyone who believes obama is going to "cut entitlements" must have voted for him, because they are too dumb to be Republicans.
Did you read the full list of participants? Posted yesterday. Heads of four unions. The rest of the participants were from some of the scariest progressive organizations in the country, two of them affiliated with George Soros.
This was another attempt - in the White House - at what Glenn Beck described as "top down, bottom up" community activism. These organizations are into mobilizing the communities to put pressure on their representatives in Washington in order to get what the leaders of the groups want. And what they want is a far left progressive agenda. Same as Obie.
•Mary Kay Henry, SEIU •Lee Saunders, AFSCME •Dennis Van Roekel, NEA •Rich Trumka, AFL-CIO •Neera Tanden, Center for American Progress •John Podesta, Center for American Progress •Bob Greenstein, Center for Budget and Policy Priorities •Laura Burton Capps, Common Purpose Project •Max Richtman, National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare •Justin Ruben, MoveOn •Deepak Bhargava, Center for Community Change
This list hits many of the major unions and liberal organizations that are urging the president to hold firm on his commitment to end tax cuts for wealthier families and to protect major entitlement programs.
No disrespect to Macaulay Culkin (#ALLDISRESPECTTOTHEPIGEONLADY), but we prefer The Pet Collective´s retelling of Home Alone to the original movie. Mostly because Kevin McCallister is now played by an adorable pug puppy. And if a pug puppy setting booby traps for teddy bear burglars isn´t adorable enough for you, the video also narrated by a small child. So forget Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. Forget Elf. This is the only Christmas movie you need to watch this year. (Snip for video)As you might suspect, the pug, named Jackson Rosa, could not be more over it...
I’m not sure what Chris Matthews was doing with President Obama yesterday, but it wasn’t hardball. It wasn’t even softball. It was more like wiffle ball. Everyone knew going in that the MSNBC host would be a sympathetic interviewer. But he knew he would be graded on his aggressiveness, so I expected at least a few fastballs. Uh uh. Instead, in a half-hour sitdown, there was one challenging question. Just one. It was as though Matthews was channeling Jay Carney. Matthews is a likable guy with a passion for politics, but he left his interviewing chops at the door. The
WASHINGTON — Sen. Ted Cruz, elected 13 months ago by actual voters, said Thursday he’d prefer to see state legislators pick U.S. senators – as they were until a century ago, when the 17th Amendment came along. Direct election of senators has eroded states’ rights, Cruz argued, speaking to a ballroom filled with conservative state lawmakers from around the country. “If you have the ability to hire and fire me,” he said, “I’m a lot less likely to break into your house and steal your television. So there’s no doubt that was a major step toward the explosion of federal power and
I´m sitting at my desk, looking at a photograph of a gangrenous foot. It is a bloated thing in hues of phlegmatic gray rot, sanguine inflammation, melancholic black bile, and choleric open sores — exhibiting all the humors of a meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council. Above the photograph, in bold white capitals on a dull, matte background are the words “smoking causes peripheral vascular disease.” The photograph is helpfully labeled “gangrene.” Below the photograph, in a bland sans-serif typeface with letters an eighth of an inch high, is “Marlboro Red.” This is a pack of Australian cigarettes,
Come January, when some number of Americans have bought insurance on the new health exchanges and are starting to use the services, you can expect another controversy to arise when many of them find out just how few doctors and hospitals they have access to. Call it “doc shock,” though the biggest outcry will not come when people try to schedule an appointment with their physician, but when someone gets sick and they learn they cannot go to whatever top-notch hospital they want, only to the hospital that is included in their plan. The problem varies across the country. In Washington,
Last month in San Francisco, President Obama called on Congress to enact comprehensive immigration reform. His speech was novel in many respects: The president used the backdrop of a community center in Chinatown to remind voters that immigrants are racially diverse. Also, for the first time in prepared remarks, the president signaled that he would consider a piecemeal approach to immigration reform long favored by Republican leaders in the House of Representatives. What got the most attention, however, was an unscripted exchange between Obama and Ju Hong, an undocumented UC Berkeley graduate who interrupted the president, calling on him to use
No matter how you spell it, ice is a four letter word Friday. Just ask folks living anywhere from Texas to Tennessee. Those areas are in the bulls eye of a treacherous ice storm, threatening to coat everything in its path with up to an inch of frozen water. Ice is slippery, but also heavy. It tends to bring down tree limbs and power lines when accumulations get thick. In Tennessee, Memphis Light, Gas and Water has 426,000 customers and is ready for the worst. "MLGW employees have been monitoring this winter storm situation and we have all of our
I have never been much of a conspiracy theorist. For me it was always Oswald by himself from the Texas School Book Depository and nothing in the intervening fifty years has disabused me of this notion. For the most part, I’m an Occam’s Razor kind of guy — the most obvious explanation is likely to be true. (Snip) To put it bluntly, Occam’s Razor has moved. Things that were once possibilities now seem almost certainties to me. Principal among those is that Obama’s academic records are perpetually unavailable for a reason — and that reason is most likely that they reveal
One of President Obama´s chief political assets has been his ability to excite young people like almost no politician in history. But the days of America´s youth fawning over the president are over. A new Harvard University Institute of Politics poll released Wednesday confirms what other surveys have shown in recent months: Millennials have soured on Obama so much this year that their opinion of him largely mirrors the American public´s. Even though Obama does not ever have to face another election, he should be worried about the findings for a couple of reasons, which we will dive into momentarily.
Last summer on his $100 million family tour of Africa, Barack Obama hoped for a priceless photo op with Nelson Mandela, the ailing freedom pioneer who went from prison cell to the presidency of South Africa. Mandela´s family suggested that wouldn’t happen. So, the Obamas did a photo op in Mandela´s former prison cell. Which Obama’s White House quickly tweeted upon word of the icon´s passing at 95. [Skip] But Obama was also caught staring at television coverage of Mandela’s passing, which became Obama’s Photo of the Day.
A stunning new study unveiled on Fox News´ Hannity finds that President Barack Obama’s White House calendar records just one face-to-face meeting between Obama and his Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Kathleen Sebelius in the more than three-and-a-half years leading up to the disastrous Obamacare launch. The startling statistic comes from a new Government Accountability Institute (GAI) analysis of Obama’s own official White House calendar, as well as the Politico presidential calendar, and raises new questions about Obama’s executive leadership and management throughout the implementation of his singular legislative achievement. More alarming still, the president’s schedule lists 277 private
Hardly a week goes by without Hillary Clinton receiving another award. Last month she was named a “Global Champion” by the International Medical Corps, received the American Patriot Award at the National Defense University Foundation and the Hermandad Award from the Mexican American Leadership Initiative. [Snip] At this rate, if a bunch of elderly left-wing Swedes toss her the Nobel Peace Prize early on, the way they did to Obama, it will barely rate mention among all the other glittering trophies that have been bestowed on a woman whose only actual accomplishment was being married to a crooked governor with
[Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
Speaker John Boehner said his party should support gay Republican congressional candidates and urged his colleagues to “be a little more sensitive” when running against women. “Some of our members just aren’t as sensitive as they ought to be,” Boehner said. When asked if he thinks his party should support gay candidates, Boehner simply said: “I do.”
