The last four years have been grim for the cause of freedom in America. Under Barack Obama the United States has seen the largest rise in the role of government since the 1930s. As I noted in an earlier piece, “an administration that worshipped bailouts and big government built up staggering levels of debt that threaten to saddle future generations with the profligate spending of their forefathers. Instead of hope, President Obama offered only the heavy fist of government intervention, rising taxes, increasing poverty and welfare dependency, and an increasingly bitter, angry and insular White House.”
We are the ropes, but he is right, we are anything but out. I can´t help thinking some disaster is going to hit the Obama gang up their obnoxious side of the head when they are lest expecting it (maybe the Bengazi-Petraus affair). Don´t know where the punch will come from but their over playing their hand. the last thing we need right now is to sell out our principles and the weak kneed talking heads i.e, Kristol and Krauthammer are the ones that should leave the party not Rush. Winners don´t quit, and losers don´t win.
I intend to be a sore loser, so that I won´t allow it to happen again. I intend to stick to my conservative principles and Kristol can leave the party. Beware Jindal and Jeb Bush..they will sell out to the highest bidder.
Oh he is absolutely right. And I do not advocate moving left at all. I only suggest that the party stop putting focus on a couple of social issues and maybe not be so hardline on them. They can addressed once we have the power back. But until we get that power back, public perception will be against us.
Overall, the most important thing for the party is to change the public message about us. We are NOT the party of old racist white guys....that is the biggest lie ever told. And we are also not the party of the rich elite--that is the Democrats.
Yes, people keep saying this. But all the evidence is to the contrary. If there are so many of us conservatives out there, why can´t we get them to the voting booth? The agenda Obama is going to carry out the next 4 years (or more) is going to fundamentally transform this country. In other words, by 2016, we´re not going to recognize the US. I wonder if Niles & the others that continue to believe this will still be here saying the same thing after ObummerCare is fully implemented, Obama appoints 3 more Justices to the SC, and the value of the $$ drops to third world status.
I agree with #5. Given the level of arrogance of B.O. and his administration, it´s only a matter of time until a whole bunch of things will ´surprise´ him. Hopefully these problems won´t damage the country.
I choose to stay conservative and fight (politically).
If 20% of the country wants to live in a "worker´s paradise", let them move to Cuba, Venezuela, or wherever.
There are lots of such countries. There is only one America, and she´s worth fighting for.
As Winston Churchill said, "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender."
The government is making us depend on them so they can change their name to "Big Brother" (1984- George Orwell) but our "country" is not at all conservative, while I believe most of the people are... At least the informed ones.
It is not. It has become a nation of greedy lazy lay-abouts who would prefer to wait around for their check and food stamps than get off their asses and provide for themselves. They prefer a Marxist Maoist government to a Republic. For the first time in my life I am embarrassed to be an American, and feel like my service was wasted on a bunch of leftist scum. I remember them spitting at me and my uniform, and now they disgust me. I quit.
If this last election is an indicator of anything, it’s that God is letting America continue down the path of self-destruction.
History repeats itself and if we want to know the future, look to the past and to ancient Israel in particular. When Israel turned from God to idols, they didn’t actually abandon God; they just merged other god’s with the One True God and worshiped them all. One reason for worshiping idols, idols serve man; they allow mankind to live self-indulgent lives without condemnation; so they think.
God is a jealous God. He will not be dethroned nor tolerate sharing the worship and respect He deserves with other gods; not because He is arrogant but because other gods, who let humans do as they please, will let humans destroy themselves. How can man be convinced of that truth? How can Christianity, that demands personal responsibility, compete with a government that has become the enabler of destructive lifestyles, providing entitlements and excuses for people who have a perverted view of freedom? It couldn´t with Israel and it can´t with America.
God will not force Himself on people or nations. Instead, God allows nations to be selfish and when they become selfish they become weak and when they become weak they become vulnerable to the enemy within and without. When the enemy defeats the weak, the enemy takes away the things that made them weak, forcing them to look to God to save them; repeating the cycle.
85% of Americans say they believe in God, but their faith is in the gods of government, leisure, comfort, personal rights and liberties, technology, etc. Even “devout” Christians follow preachers selling a “Prosperity Gospel” that also turns God into a servant of man.
America has abandoned God in the same sense Israel did. America, a once God fearing nation has embraced false gods that are destroying it from within. As America becomes weaker its enemies within gain power and its enemies without wait for the first chance to take away the things that have made it weak; the gods of this world.
Dream on, Gardner. 52% of the people in the US wants socialism. They voted for it and they´ll get it. Solution: update your passport, buy a batch of Chinese money, and find a nice place (Singapore?) to sit on a high place and watch capitalism go up in smoke.
There were discrepancies in precincts. There always are with the Democrats. That´s not what got Obama elected. The country is toast because of the entitled masses voting to keep their bread buttered. Obamacare alone codified this culture. Add the coming immigration legislation, the Dodd-Frank regulations and the unknown racial quota regulations coming to every facet of work, government, education, military - do I have to go on? Obama was right on one thing - they won. Disagree if you need to but, don´t shoot the messenger.
I disagree about the US being a conservative nation, if "conservative" is being used in the social sense of the word.
I think the population centers on both coasts and the great lakes are as liberal as they come and they have somehow managed to outvote the rest of the country. That marijuana use, assisted suicide and homosexual "marriage" should come up as referendum questions demonstrates that Hollyweird has won the culture war.
Perhaps, it is time to go Galt and stop enabling the liberal losers continue their descent into wanton, dissolute living and its consequences.
Yes. Obama won because Blacks and Latinos were voting their own dignity, not because there is majority support for any of his opinions. His mandate is to go on having a black skin, and not to deport Latinos. That´s it, really. Been wondering if he´ll keep promise #2 because they´re Catholic. DREAM act beckons in the least-likely-to-be-Catholic segment. Wondering how he will treat the rest.
Yo, #13 - absolutamente. Absent some sort of massive move by God, America is finis. Won´t happen tomorrow, but has been set in motion and only He can stop it. I think the thing that bothers me most is our desertion of Israel. We have put ourselves on the side of evil and darkness, and thereby have sealed our fate. :sigh:
In June 2013 the doors of cell block A suddenly swung open in the Turner Guildford Knight Correctional Centre in Miami, Florida. And block B. In fact, every cell door in the prison. The reason? A computer malfunction. The prison had recently linked its security locks to the internet. More and more things are going online, most worryingly our "critical national infrastructure"--a technical term for what essentially means "if it breaks we’re all f–––––"--water systems, power grids, telecommunications, banking services. Connectivity makes them vulnerable to disruption too: from hackers, from serious criminals who are increasingly inching online, from hostile foreign
Fatih Birol is one of those people who run the world without the man in the street ever having heard of them. From a discreet office in Paris, he keeps an ever-sensitive finger on the world´s pulse. [Snip] In 2007, he was among the first to spot that China´s emissions of greenhouse gases were about to overtake America´s--a key factor in world talks on climate change. Last year, he made another striking prediction: he forecast the eclipse of an unchallenged energy giant. Saudi Arabia would shortly be overtaken as the world´s biggest producer of crude oil by its most important
Tens of thousands of pharmacists, bus drivers and bank staff are being trained to recognise the signs of dementia as part of a “front-line force” against the disease. [Snip] Jeremy Hunt, the Heath Secretary, said “every section of society” must “step up” to help tackle the illness, which affects 800,000 people in the country. “Britain’s biggest companies will build up a front-line force of thousands of people able to spot the signs of dementia and understand the needs of sufferers, helping people with the disease to live a normal life for longer,” Mr Hunt told The Daily Telegraph.
Three damning reports last night laid bare the crisis in NHS hospitals, maternity units and GP surgeries. One investigation revealed that a quarter of new mothers were abandoned by their midwives during labour, with some left to give birth on the floor or in corridors. The second found that mistakes deemed so serious they should never happen are being made in hospitals five times a week. And the third survey said thousands of patients have all but given up trying to secure appointments with their family doctor. The reports come only a day after the NHS watchdog detailed a catalogue
For Syria’s beleaguered moderate rebels, 2013 has been a year of disillusionment and crushed hopes: hopes that the US would follow through on promises of arms in the spring; hopes that US, French, and British missiles would shatter Assad’s military forces in the summer; and hopes that they could survive in between Assad’s murderous forces on one side, and Islamist and jihadist rivals on the other. Syria’s moderate rebels are collapsing. Western policy, including hope for next year’s peace talks, is crumbling with them. This week, the US and Britain suspended non-lethal aid--such as communications equipment and trucks
Congress´ top GOP watchdog is warning the secretary of Health and Human Services to stop instructing contractors behind healthcare.gov not to talk to Congress about the project. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee chair Darrell Issa, a hard-charging California Republican, told Sec. Kathleen Sebelius in a letter on Wednesday that it´s against the law to get between Congress and the companies her agency hired to work on the crash-and-burn website. [Snip] ´The federal obstruction laws reflect the fact that Congress’ right of access to information is constitutionally based,´ his letter warned,´ and critical to the integrity and
When my immigrant wife first came to Britain, it took her ages to understand our GP system. If I fell ill, I had to wait days to see the doctor. But if she felt sick, the same doctor would see her that afternoon as she was categorised as a private patient (and paid a modest £50 for the privilege). As far as she could work out, it was a Russian-style system of bribery: the official system doesn’t work, but you can bypass it with a few backhanders. Yesterday, we were shown a little more about Britain’s GP network. The Care Quality Commission looked into 920 practices and found almost a third failing to meet basic standards.
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
Fox News host Megyn Kelly has made herself the center of a racial controversy by declaring that Jesus Christ and Santa Claus are white. On Wednesday night, Kelly was responding to an article by Slate writer Aisha Harris, who wrote an article entitled “ Santa Claus Should Not Be a White Man Anymore .” The popular news host told viewers of “The Kelly File,” her hit FNC program, “When I saw this headline, I kinda laughed and I said, ‘Oh, this is ridiculous. Yet another person claiming it´s racist to have a white Santa.’ And by the way, for all you kids
Views of the tea party are at all-time lows in a new poll, as primary challenges to establishment Republicans continue to heat up Washington. Just 30 percent of Americans view the tea party favorably in a new Gallup poll released Wednesday, the movement’s lowest point since Gallup began polling about it during its rise in 2010. Also in a first, a majority of Americans had an unfavorable view of the tea party, at 51 percent. Similar numbers of respondents described themselves as proponents or opponents of the tea party: Twenty-two percent identified themselves as tea party supporters, while 24 percent said they
