Welcome to the Rand Paul evolution
Politico, by Manu Raju

He’ll push to loosen marijuana penalties, legalize undocumented immigrants and pursue a less aggressive American foreign policy. Call it the Rand Paul Evolution. (snip) He wants to work with liberal Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy and Republicans to eliminate mandatory minimum sentences for pot possession. He wants to carve a compromise immigration plan with an “eventual path” to citizenship for illegal immigrants, a proposal he believes could be palatable to conservatives. And he believes his ideas — along with pushing for less U.S. military intervention in conflicts overseas

Comments:
The GOP elite continue their public panic attack.

Paul´s not conservative, but libertarian, and in many ways is having the sins of his father visited upon him. Neither the Dems nor Pubbies will do a thing to the illegals except shower them with goodies and a path to citizenship in hopes they can buy their votes. So, who´s kidding who? Bush, Dole, Bush, Bush, McCain, Romney...does anyone claiming to be a conservative detect a pattern here? They were all Republicans; none were conservatives.

Don´t take non-prescription illegal drugs and don´t like the idea of these drugs being available to everyone. The thought that our police, judges and politicians are stoned as they detain people and make decisions about their lives and their welfare is frightening. However there are people in prison who were caught with small amounts of pot. With vicious rapists, burglars and killers being released early due to prison overcrowding, it is wrong that those found to be convicted because of minor drug possession are remaining locked up. I don´t have all the answers, but somewhere here common sense needs to prevail.

The Pauls are out for the Pauls. Daddy and his family made a lot of money off of the Libertarians. Too bad they do not have the guts to run on the Libertarian Party. Nope, too much money to be made staying Republican.

It was reported a year or two that, in considering legislation to criminalize the act of shining a laser beam into the cockpit of an aircraft in the air, only one senator voted against it. Senator Rand Paul.

He also would end all foreign aid for Israel. If Richard Nixon hadn´t rushed massive military aid to Israel in its 1973 war with Egypt, there wouldn´t be an Israel. Every man, woman and child would have been destroyed.

I think this is the path to follow. Gov Gary Johnson of New Mexico was elected twice with 10% margins, while Obama took New Mexico will a 10% margin this year. Gov Johnson ran as a fiscal conservative (he vetoed spending bill more than 700 times) but also supported legalizing pot and gay marriage. Paul will win the independent vote as well as the pure fiscal conservatives.

At some point, Republicans need to decide -- it is better to live in socialism than to have the two guys down the street get married to each other?

Reply 19 - Posted by: veritas, 11/13/2012 10:52:25 PM     (No. 9012664)

Agreed. Paul pere and fils are Libertarians, not conservatives in any way. And somewhat like at least certain Leftists, being a litmussed Libertarian [or a Leftist] is more important than rationality.

For each, there is but one value sale, the value scale of the ideology.

That produces crazy policies and locks out rationality. That´s not good. Not good.

#18: "False dichotomy" describes it. "Two guys" versus socialism isn´t the choice.

Reply 21 - Posted by: Bla Bla, 11/14/2012 12:26:44 AM     (No. 9012792)

He´s more Libertarian than Conservative. That´s no surprise. But that seems to be a more likely path to the White House. The Tea Party is full of Libertarians who want to legalize drugs, de-regulate just about everything, and overhaul the tax system. No socialist medical program. Social issues are off the table.

I have to decide between that & a RINO GOP that keeps handing us Moderate nominees who can´t win. God help us.

If Obama´s reelection was not because of fraud, then I believe the Ron Paul fanatics stayed home. Remember how angry and bitter they were. If Allen West turns out to be the winner in Florida after all the votes are recounted, then widespread fraud tipped the election I firmly believe. Too bad Mia Love in Utah didn´t try to have a recount in Utah since she was 10% ahead before election. Anyone from Utah want to comment on that contest?

Democrats are the roadblock

San Diego – After Latino voters helped re-elect President Obama — delivering the battleground states of Nevada and Colorado, and contributing to the victories in Florida and Virginia — a consensus quickly emerged among pundits and political observers that the quid pro quo would include comprehensive immigration reform. (Snip) So why don’t Democrats want comprehensive-immigration reform? For the same five reasons that Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid teamed up in 2006 and 2007 with the nativist wing of the Republican Party to kill bipartisan bills and, in 2010, helped scuttle the

FORT PIERCE -— A county canvassing board on Friday ordered a recount of early-voting ballots in the race between U.S. Rep. Allen West and Democrat Patrick Murphy, hours after a judge declined to do the same. The St. Lucie County Canvassing Board voted 2-to-1 late Friday in favor of the move in the 18th Congressional District contest, in which Murphy is the unofficial victor. A series of tabulation errors by the county has raised suspicion among West´s campaign and its supporters and appeared to motivate the board´s favorable vote.

Liberals brag about having won the hearts and minds of America, as if, through logic and argument, they’ve persuaded people to accept their bankrupt European socialist ideas. Democrats haven’t changed anyone’s mind. They changed the people. More white people voted for Mitt Romney this year than voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980. Barack Obama lost white voters by 20 points — the widest margin since 1984. But in 1980, whites were 88 percent of the electorate. In 2012, they were 72 percent of the electorate.

Sean Hannity said Thursday he has “evolved” on immigration and now supports a “pathway to citizenship.” Hannity told his radio listeners Thursday afternoon that the United States needs to “get rid of the immigration issue altogether.” “It’s simple to me to fix it,” Hannity said. “I think you control the border first. You create a pathway for those people that are here — you don’t say you’ve got to go home. And that is a position that I’ve evolved on. Because, you know what, it’s got to be resolved. Speaker John Boehner said Thursday he was "confident" Republicans could agree to a comprehensive immigration bill. Boehner (R-Ohio) made the comment in an interview with ABC News released two days after President Obama's decisive reelection victory over Mitt Romney. Obama's win was fueled by Hispanic voters, who made up a larger portion of the electorate than they did four years ago and voted overwhelmingly for Obama. The president won Latino voters by 44 points, according to the Pew Hispanic Center. The defeat and those figures have triggered a round of soul-searching by

Michigan voters pulled the plug on a proposed constitutional amendment that would have required Michigan's utilities to provide 25 percent of their electricity from renewable sources by 2025. With most precincts reporting, 63 percent of voters opposed the measure.(snip)Proposal 3 represented a doubling-down on renewable energy after state legislators voted in 2008 to reach a 15 percent standard by 2015. Those backing the ballot measure claimed the new standard would not only accelerate Michigan's move away from environmentally-damaging fossil fuels, but create jobs and investment from the construction and maintenance of wind turbines.

Washington rumor has it that Obama wants to be U.N. Secretary General. There are several reasons that make that likely, and if it´s true, it throws new light on a lot of Obama´s oddities -- including his Royalty Bows, his Apology Tours, his Muslim Sellout, and the Benghazi Cover-Up. But first -- why would Obama be planning to become the chief of the U.N. before he has even finished his second term?

On Wednesday, Drummer Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, a man who had served Queen and country honorably in the hell of Helmand Province in Afghanistan, emerged from his barracks on Wellington Street, named after the Duke thereof, in southeast London. Minutes later, he was hacked to death in broad daylight and in full view of onlookers by two men with machetes who crowed "Allahu Akbar!" as they dumped his carcass in the middle of the street like so much roadkill. As grotesque as this act of savagery was, the aftermath was even more unsettling

Abuse Of Power: Any scandal investigation that expects a "Eureka!" moment, a White House e-mail, or Oval Office smoking gun will be misguided. In fact, the dots are already connected directly to the president. Barack Obama is not foolish enough to have a tape recording system hidden in his desk. And his administration staff are not careless enough to send one another incriminating e-mails. If the president was behind the IRS unlawfully harassing conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, we can be sure the communications were all sotto voce and in persona, like any good Chicago political operator.
