U.S. general demoted over
´extravagant trips´

New York Daily News, by Larry McShane

Original Article

The one-time head of the U.S. Africa Command was demoted Tuesday and ordered to repay $82,000 for unauthorized spending on extravagant trips and other expenses. The move by Defense Secretary Leon Panetta means Gen. William “Kip” Ward will lose one star and retire as a three-star lieutenant general, according to The Associated Press. The demotion is just the latest bit of general misbehavior following the resignation of ex-Army Gen. David Petraeus for an adulterous affair, and reports that Marine Gen. John Allen is under investigation for his “flirtatious” exchanges with the whistleblower in the Petraeus case.

Too bad the same standard doesn´t apply to Obama and his wife -- or for that matter Panetta who is running up huge bills traveling to Calif to visit his family weekly.

Isn´t Panetta the guy who demands the taxpayers shuttle him back and forth to California for free? Where does he get off demoting someone else for extravagant travel?

# 1 - Exactly what I was thinking......discredit or force out those Generals whose behaviour is questionable.......next will be those Generals that are not politically connected.......then they will have the rationale and power to eliminate ANY General.
When you fit this in with the budget for the military, it´s clear BO wants to destroy our military. Wonder what is BO planning for West Point and Annapolis.

How funny is this? A man with a 40+ career serving our country gets demoted and charged yet Bam and MO spend millions and not a peep.

As #4 said, "the purge" came to my mind, too. They must get the military fully under their control.

Is it me or does this look like a war on Generals this week. Three of them in one week! Something smells rotten. This is only the beginning of the end for our Military.

What in the name of Bull Run is going on here? Is this a top-down slashing of the military? Or is it a purging of officers Jarrett and Obama aren´t confident in as maleable toadys? If that´s the case, look toward a new crop of Flag Officers named Antwan, Shabazz, and LaQeesha.

Prediction - the entire JCS and most of the top tier of Generals and Admirals shall be replaced or demoted before January 20, 2013. And MASSIVE resignations among some of the field grades as well.

Gotta have reliable underlings in place, otherwise, there may very well be a military takeover of the US Government shortly thereafter.

Can´t be having potential coups messing up the trajectory.

This is no purge. This man has been in limbo while they tried to figure out what to do with him. He and his wife lived very high on the (taxpayer) hog and she sent military personnel on personal errands - to buy a certain candy bar, etc. The articles about them portrayed Vanity, Inc.

About the time this was all coming down, he retired. They did not want him to formally retire until this was settled as its final disposition might include a reduction in rank (and subsequent retirement benefits). There was talk of his losing two stars.

He was parked somewhere, General Ham took his place, and now they are finishing up his case, which has gone on for far too long.

I suspect the only connection it has with the Petraeus matter is that someone decided it was time to get the untidy military decks cleared.

What is pretty clear is that our intelligence agencies have a lot of manower to develop dossiers on our own military. I would not trust leaked, unflaterring stories that coincide with the humiliation of the officers. I have no doubt that productive house cleaning should go on but this is looking like politicalization of the military and Demsey is DumBHO´s stooge.

This has nothing to do with the other Generals in trouble. This story has been going on for months. The only reason we didn´t see much about it in the MSM is that General Ward is black. He was living like a prince on the taxpayers´ dime. Sort of like his CIC is doing now.

Not that the guy doesn´t deserve demotion, etc., but aren´t general/flag rank officers elevated to those ranks by act of Congress? That would seem to pre-suppose an act of Congress to effect a reduction in rank.

An absolute outrage- if an enlisted person or junior officer had commited 10% of what this disgraceful person did they´d be in Leavenworth with a Bad Conduct Discharge. Yet another example that there is a different standard of justice for senior officers. The men & women in the Armed Forces are watching how senior officers are treated (Colonel Johnson, the ongoing General Sinclair case, Patraeus, Allen)- the hypocrisy will destroy morale.

#16&17&18 poster, this IS a purge…Gen Ward’s sin in the eyes of Zero’s henchmen is that he was a go to guy for W and Condi…they assigned him to the no-win job of training the Palestinian security forces in concert with Israel and then named him the first commander of AFRICOM…he successfully fought to restructure it, removing a State Department person as the deputy combatant commander, something no other command has, and replaced her with a flag officer...in the run-up to Libya, he protested the so-called “lead from behind strategy” and was replaced by Gen Ham who had already done Zero’s bidding as co-chair of the committee to end Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and was rewarded with a 4th star to command AFRICOM...the same acting DoD IG who set up Gen Ward is handling the Gen Allen investigation, so let’s see what happens there and how much monitoring 20 to 30,000 emails…

#26 posits that if you are a Black officer, by definition you are unqualified and benefited from AA…guess if Ward was White he would be qualified, and if he was married to the West Point commandant’s daughter, he would be brilliant….

Finally, look at the photos of PaulaB on GenPs plane and recall that his girlfriend spent a year in Afghanistan…at what costs to the taxpayers?

Sen. John McCain is the least popular senator in the country of those surveyed by Public Policy Polling, with low marks from members of his own party, independents and Democrats. Just 30 percent of Arizona voters approve of the job the Republican senator is doing, while 54 percent disapprove, according to a PPP release Thursday. That is the worst of any senator’s polling in the nation that PPP has found.

He was first elected to the Senate in 1978. Obama’s choice of the 72-year-old Baucus to be ambassador to China must be confirmed by the Senate.

Administration close to finalizing rule

The Obama administration is moving toward finalizing a rule that would give alternative energy farms a pass for killing bald and golden eagles for decades, just weeks after it took legal action for the first time against a company for doing so. The rule by the Interior Department extends the length of the permits that allow farms to unintentionally kill the eagles without penalty from five to 30 years, according to department records. The rule authorizes the “non-purposeful” killing of eagles, but also will require farms to implement certain guidelines to help with eagle conservation.

"I´ve got to say if I were the owner of the team and I knew that the name of my team, even if they´ve had a storied history, that was offending a sizeable group of people, I´d think about changing it," Obama said

The Obama administration is poised to entertain a flood of new clemency applications from thousands of federal prisoners who were given harsh sentences under mandatory-minimum laws following drug convictions, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday. Holder said in a short videotaped statement that he wants to shrink the federal prison population by a modest amount while ensuring ´that those who have paid their debts have a chance to become productive citizens.´ At the center of the move is a set of old sentencing rules that punished crack-cocaine offenders with more time behind bars than users or traffickers of powder cocaine.

If Jeb reaches for the nomination, there will be a titanic battle between the party establishment and the Tea Party. Steve Schmidt, McCain’s strategist in 2008, insists that in the end Republicans usually settle on the most electable candidate. To get by, this Bush may be forced to trim his positions, although the cautionary tale of Romney suggests that he would have to tack artfully and carefully for the sake of the general election. Certainly he will have the resources to outlast, discredit, and disqualify his rivals.

There’s a pattern of falsifying statistics throughout the entire Census Bureau. As I’ve been writing for more than six months, the Census Bureau office in Philadelphia uncovered a case of fraud in 2010, did nothing about it and allowed the practice to continue. In that instance, a data collector named Julius Buckmon was faking reports that went into the nation’s all-important jobless tally and consumer-inflation survey.
