| Via the Other McCain, I’m belatedly catching up with this analysis in The Washington Post: In fact, as the chart below details, Republican Senate candidates under-performed GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney in most of the important races of 2012. In five races, the GOP candidate under-performed Romney by at least nine points. This includes Reps. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) and Rick Berg (R-N.D.), who both lost in states that Romney carried by at least 13 points.

I hope facts will begin to counter the 180 degree wrongheadedness of much of the "analysis" of Tuesday. Romney is only partially to blame-no more than McCain. Romney was a better candidate than McCain in lots of ways; however, the early defining of him as a clueless rich guy stuck--and played right along with the media-created image of Repubs. Add that to the whole war-on-women-and- gay marriage -and boom! you´ve got a poisonous stew for the low-info voter to swim in....

Don´t know about Berg, but I´m convinced that Rehberg lost for the same reason that Democrat Gabby Giffords first won her seat here in Arizona. A Libertarian candidate ran who was supported by the Democrats as the most conservative candidate in the race. They even sent out mailers to registered Republicans with that info. He siphoned off enough votes that the Democrat winner won with less that 50% of the votes. He got about 3 times the votes a normal Libertarian candidate would get. I´ve also seen the Democrat party try to do that in other races in the Tucson area. Republicans can be their own worst enemies.

Mark Sanford has won the South Carolina special election in a competitive race for what in normal circumstances is a safe Republican seat. The former governor beat Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch, the sister of comedian Stephen Colbert Busch, for the state’s 1st congressional district. The AP called the race for Sanford early in the evening, with the Republican leading Colbert Busch 54 percent 46 percent.

The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have reversed their longstanding membership guidelines to allow homosexuals to join the organization. In an email to CNSNews.com, the BSA public affairs office said the vote on the resolution to “remove the restriction denying membership to youth on the basis of sexual orientation alone” was passed with 61.44 percent in favor and 38.56 percent opposed. “For 103 years, the Boy Scouts of America has been a part of the fabric of this nation, with a focus on working together to deliver the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training,”

Abuse Of Power: Any scandal investigation that expects a "Eureka!" moment, a White House e-mail, or Oval Office smoking gun will be misguided. In fact, the dots are already connected directly to the president. Barack Obama is not foolish enough to have a tape recording system hidden in his desk. And his administration staff are not careless enough to send one another incriminating e-mails. If the president was behind the IRS unlawfully harassing conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status, we can be sure the communications were all sotto voce and in persona, like any good Chicago political operator.

The murder of a soldier in south London on Wednesday has prompted fears of a backlash against British Muslims after the English Defence League staged an impromptu rally in the capital and two mosques were attacked. The BNP leader, Nick Griffin, has also reacted to the killing with provocative tweets calling for a protest in Woolwich and claiming the crime is the result of "mass immigration".
