| To paraphrase the traditional Passover formulation honored in Jewish homes: why was this election different from all other elections? What makes 2012 stand out in recent political history, either as a temporary anomaly or a significant, long-term shift in the electorate? The most striking change in the results this year involved a precipitous and alarming decline in voter participation, a drop-off that stemmed from a deliberate strategy by the Obama campaign and almost certainly provided the president with his margin of victory. Meanwhile, much of the conventional wisdom about the results has been fatuous and unsubstantiated,

This is an interesting and worthwhile read. However, regardless of all Medved says, the fact remains that it should not have even been close. Presidents who - among other deeds of absolute perfidy, appoint communists - should be run out of office as disgraceful laughingstocks, not slobbered over like Jim Jones 2. An America that would even consider running a Barack Obama for reelection is an America that has lost both its bearings and its mind. No amount of clever campaign strategery can counter that.
More and more, I am understanding Sarah Palin´s decision not to run, assuming prescience about the electorate (and the compromised GOP) was informing her decision. You cannot fight stupid with smart - stupid doesn´t react.

Interesting article but I disagree, the party that held back the vote of "right leaning independents" was the party that allowed a New England RINO be nominated. NO MORE OPEN PRIMARIES, the Republican nominee must be selected by Republicans.

"... 85 percent of all campaign commercials by the Obama campaign and allied groups featured negative messages about Romney." This caused people to stay away??? This infuriated and fired up the opposition.
Something wrong with the numbers from every angle. What this is trying to say is that normal Americans, i.e. conservatives, are so stupid they can´t see through this onslaught of perfidious ads.
Early voting was way up. Voting lines at the precincts were often hours long.
And voting numbers were down???

So more people voted for Palin then Romney? That is one way to see what the article says. I am surprised but also did sense that lack of enthusiasm during the last ten days..and not all due to Sandy. Romney´s message did not get out. He played it safe. But I still admire him and am so sorry he lost. No he was not a lot of our first picks. Palin was mine but also did not want her to run due to the clap sp she would face from the establishment repubs. So here´s to the establishment who demonize all but their hand picked candidates: No More. I will vote for No More of your hand picked candidates and surely will not give any money.

As for popular vote: Final totals are predicted to surpass McCains and rival Bush 43. Most of Obie´s lost millions are likely from the white population that fell for him in ´08. Safe to say many withheld their vote for Mitt as MM suggests. Electorally: Jack Cashill opines that vote harvesting in early voting states made the difference. Harvesting is not necessarily illegal, but a vey aggressive GOTV program in which few can do more given the extra time Some fraud likely occurred here but can´t guess how much
Many swing states were / are early voters. NC. IA. OH NV WI FL iirc
final totals will show that those states were lost by about 400,000 votes total.

It is not who votes that counts. It is who counts the votes that counts. How can 100% of the registered voters vote for Obama? This happened in certain Philadelphia precincts. This is easy. Rig the voting machines. How can 100% of the states with Voter ID vote for Romney and 100% of the states with no Voter ID "vote" for Obama? Statistically improbable.
The election was stolen. Get over it. The demonRats can steal whatever election they want. They control the polls. They stole Florida again.
There seems to be no way to defeat the juggernaut of Public Service Unions, who run the show. Without significant Republican participation on a precinct-by-precinct level the voter fraud will continue.
Big lies. Voter fraud. Lying advertisements. These constitute the path to our Nation´s dissolution.

Every election from dog catcher to President, Republicans are going to have to win inspite of vote fraud and media bias. Anyone who does not plan or allow for that is going to be beaten right out of the gate.

Gee. Romney proved to be a weak finisher because he let Obama use Bain to define him with low interest voters as an out of touch plutocrat who would never understand their problems.
Hey, OP. Who could have predicted that? Like maybe everyone on this site who had studied Romney´s record on past campaigns and was leary of those who described how simply perfect he´d be with swing voters.
Most of his primary detractors worked their butts off for him but the independents still didn´t like the dog food.

Early voting opens up a can of worms. All those votes laying around, more time to use the ´vote´ of the dead and uninterested who they know won´t vote. How many of the early votes were fraudulent?

Romney has many, many, talents. He also has ZERO charisma. Dear Leader, on the other hand, has zero talent but heaps of charisma. This is why he is so loved by his Royal Court of lap doggies in the media.

The street smart Obama Chicago crew had Romney defined the way they wanted before Romney ever got up off his beach chair at his lakeside home in NH. Then knock off a few million votes from people who would not vote for a Morman and Obama could rest easy.

Democrats fell far short of winning the House in 2012, an otherwise banner year for the party, and many are privately glum about taking back the chamber in 2014. But that grim immediate outlook raises a far more troubling longer-term prospect for Democrats: that the newly drawn congressional lines have tilted the electoral playing field so decisively in the GOP’s favor that the party could control the House through 2020. That this, in other words, could be the Democrats’ Lost Decade. Three of the past four elections have produced partisan upheaval, so political forecasting must be approached with caution.

Men´s Wearhouse no longer likes the way George Zimmer looks. Zimmer, the founder, chairman and the public face of the discount apparel chain, has been terminated by the company, according to a brief statement from the company. Men´s Wearhouse gave no reason for Zimmer´s departure -- which surfaced on Wednesday, just hours before the company postponed its annual shareholders meeting. A company spokesman declined comment but said Zimmer´s departure would not affect operations.

Obama to Charlie Rose, yesterday: I’ve stood up a privacy and civil liberties oversight board made up of independent citizens, including some fierce civil libertarians. I’ll be meeting with them and what I want to do is to set up and structure a national conversation not only about these two programs but also about the general problem of these big data sets because this is not going to be restricted to government entities. The board Obama is referring to was created in 2004. Nominations and confirmation delays prevented the board from being particularly effective,

Obama never fails to enlist children in his secularist crusades, whether at home or abroad. Last week he trotted out two nine-year-old girls to introduce him at a White House event celebrating “LGBT Pride Month.” “We could not be prouder of Zea and Luna for the introduction,” he said. “Zea and Luna are here with their moms, and also I think with Grandma and Grandpa — correct? And so feel free to congratulate them afterwards for their outstanding introduction.” Zea and Luna proved useful to Obama not only as props for LGBT rights but also as mouthpieces for his gun-control agenda:

With dozens of Democratic lawmakers struggling to live on a food stamp budget to protest GOP cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, a Republican staffer says he is living on a SNAP budget without problems. Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman’s communications director and agriculture policy advisor, Donny Ferguson, says he has been able to eat well on $27.58 for a week, less than the $31.50 House Democrats have limited themselves to for their “SNAP Challenge.” “I wanted to personally experience the effects of the proposed cuts to food stamps. I didn’t plan ahead or buy strategically,

The ongoing saga of Edward Snowden has at least been moving in the right direction for President Obama. Snowden may once have tried to position himself as a whistleblower, but he has since devolved into ingratiating himself with authoritarian regimes by plying them with American national security secrets. While Pete is correct that the NSA story seems to be hurting voters’ opinion of Obama’s trustworthiness, Americans are by now realizing that they would be foolish to go the other extreme and place that trust in Snowden. It is also (understandably) distracting the public’s attention from the scandals that preceded it,

In two contexts the Obama administration has revealed its complete confusion about high-stakes negotiations and the interrelation of soft and hard power. In Syria, after dragging his feet for two years, trying to fudge over his own “red line” and coming up with a half-hearted move to give small arms to the rebels, President Obama discovers that he can’t budge Russia, which has backed Bashar al-Assad to the hilt. The Post reports that at the Group of 8 summit: Obama has demanded that Assad relinquish power as part of any negotiated peace settlement, a condition Putin rejects.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
