Papa John´s CEO to cut worker´s

With failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney unable to repeal health care reform, Papa John´s CEO John Schnatter said he plans on taking the costs out of his workers. Schnatter said he will probably cut worker´s hours because President Obama was re-elected, according to the Naples News. [Snip]Though Schnatter has waffled on the Affordable Care Act, alternately agreeing that ´the good news is 100 per cent of the population is going to have health insurance´ and throwing fundraisers for Romney as the then-candidate promised to repeal Obamacare, Still, his announcement should not shock his employees as Schnatter has said he

And just in case the workers aren´t suffering enough, HuffPo is trying to launch a boycott.

Well, we´ll have to do a Chik fil-A on Papa John´s then!

Without a doubt, this is just the beginning. Businesses will be forced into hiring only part-time employees, while others will either freeze hiring altogether, close their doors or move out of the country.
.... I´m still waiting to hear the roar when ObamaLites discover that they will NOT be allowed to retain their current health insurance plans, as the government applies new rules to employers.

Any business must recover the costs of doing business or, alternatively, go out of business. Those are the only two options.

Everyone is going to have to get used to it. Almost all jobs advertised now are part-time and employers are moving their employees to part-time status. Problem solved.

If any Obama voters thought that things would get better by voting for him, they are in for a rude awakening. But, you know, they´ll figure out a way to blame the evil Republicans anyway.

One of the most disturbing things about the layoff and full time cutbacks being announced is the reaction of the Obama drones. They think that this is being done because the employers are trying to punish Obama and his supporters. They simply do not understand that this is a move to reduce costs in order for the business to survive and hopefully thrive. They are economic illiterates who believe that jobs are created in order to give people jobs and benefits are given regardless of the cost because it is the the employees right to have them. And if prices are raised it is because the employer is greedy and just wants more profit. We have created a society where everyone has a right to everything without regard to the economic cost or consequence. I am losing hope in the ability to overcome this condition we now find ourselves in as a nation.

Te company I work for has informed everyone that our share of health insurance costs is going up 100% this year. The other option explored was canceling insurance for everyone, but they didn´t want to do that, yet!

There is no mechanism in Obamacare to provide everyone insurance. Has anyone read this thing? Also, SCOTUS said the Government could tax you, but that it could NOT compell you to buy insurance.

Pizza delivery is already a job held by those who have marginal job histories. Most of the people I know who are delivering pizzas are already working less than 30 hours a week. People who hold fast food jobs do not regard them as long term employment. The lack of adequate health insurance is one reason people leave those jobs to find other employment. I do not expect to see Papa John´s fail to pay for health insurance of its management employees. I do expect to see some shifting in pizza chain ordering in the near term.

Let´s see, I´m 21 years old and just got out of college.

I have over 50,000 dollars in student debt, no possibility of getting a job, much less of a chance of a full time job.

I just voted for Obama and helped keep his healthcare mandate alive. Now I´ll be paying a tax for insurance for the rest of my life even if I can´t afford it.

My social security will be docked for my loans I couldn´t repay, and I´ll be chased by the IRS for my medical care.

Sweet!

I read that Darden Restaurants (Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Longhorn Steakhouse) is trying out 100% part time workforce at some locations. More employees to cover the same hours but avoids healthcare mandates.

The poster at #15 should have known these facts before he pulled the lever. Like so many his age, however, he didn´t bother to educate himself about the issues. Thie 21-year-old and others will get what they voted for, and they are not going to be happy.

I guess that´s one way to look at it. I think it might be because they can´t afford to pay health care or other benefits as of the first of the New Year so instead of firing a bunch of people, they cut back hours for everyone. This is just the start. Those who aren´t cutting back right now will before long. Just wait.

#15 is roll playing, of course, but I feel no sympathy for someone in that position who actually voted for Obama. In fact, I want pain and anguish to befall all Obama voters. Its the people in #15´s situation who voted for Romney that I have sympathy for.

I´ve heard the businesses that place skilled temporary labor such as IT, accounting and HR people are also revising their contracts to 30 hours a week. That´s a rough number. It guts disposable income but even if the contract allows it, few people can juggle two jobs that might requiring 30 hours a week for any length of time.

As I told the 19 year old who called on behalf of my alma mater seeking a handout the night after the election, these things do have consequences, morons. You´re not getting another dime from me.

The other consequence not a well-publicized is the conversion of full-time employees to self-employed contractors. This happens with more skilled employees. Then the employee gets hammered with self-employment taxes (around 16%), and has to either buy health insurance from an exchange, or pay the Obamacare tax. Sweet.

FTA: 100 per cent of the population is going to have health insurance

Not true. Millions will not have insurance. Plus union members, politicians, insiders get a separate insurance that is more comprehensive then the rest of us.

This shift started last spring/summer. Part time employment grew by a record 1.1 million in April and May while the number of jobs created was about 300,000. Hmmmm ... how does that happen. A whole lot of full time work divided between two part timers. It does help bring down the BLS BS phony unemployment rate. Plus all those new part timers qualify for food stamps. It´s a win win!

#15 you forgot all those increased payroll taxes you´d be paying if you ever did get a job. At least Obama´s cool.

One of the biggest problems with Obamacare is it´s free to the moochers. Without a co-pay or something,it´s ripe for abuse. Most people on medicaid are young and young people are who reg insurance wants because of the low risk. So why do young people on medicaid access healthcare so much? Medication they can sell on the street.Where I live Oxycontins go for $20-25 bucks a piece.1mg xanax,3 bucks apiece. etc.

Reply 27 - Posted by: killerbee, 11/11/2012 12:21:26 PM     (No. 9007218)

Well, the headline is correct, although it´s sensationalized. Obama´s reelection means Obamacare goes through as written, which means businesses are going to have to lay people off or go out of business and then no one has a job.

If they think it´s revenge then they can hire those newly unemployed workers. They´re not hiring, they say? Must be racist vengeance.

In comments after a different article about this, I was amazed by the negative remarks. The idiots just can´t grasp the fact that a business must survive in order to offer products and jobs. It can not survive if the cost of operating are more than their income/profit. These are consequences that were predicted dimwits.

Then ´Pappa John´ should shut it all down and move out of the US. It would be less taxing that way.

Just why should employers be involved w health care any way? If you get sick, be sure to die quickly; there are many other unemployed peeps to replace you at a lower wage than you make.

Profit, after all, is more important than humanity.

Whether the Papa John´s employees are covered at work or by Medicaid or an exchange, he will pay. We all pay.

Whether it´s Papa John´s, Wally World or a theme park reducing hours, it will fall on the states to provide coverage. We will all pay.

Businesses will close their doors forever because they cannot afford benefits. No small business will expand to 50 or more employees. No company should receive an exemption. It´s either all of US or none of US.

Is the worm turning against Barack Obama? After four-plus years of being given the benefit of the doubt by the bulk of the US media, the President now suddenly feels more vulnerable. A friend of Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev implicated himself and Tsarnaev in a 2011 triple slaying just before he was killed by an FBI agent early Wednesday, NBC and CBS News are reporting. Authorities were pressuring Chechan immigrant Ibragim Todashev, 27, to make a full confession to the murders when he suddenly turned violent, according to CBS. An FBI agent responded by firing his weapon and killing Todashev. The incident happened at Todashev´s Orlando apartment, not far from Universal Studios. This is the dramatic moment a woman appears to remonstrate with a man carrying a knife following a brutal attack in Woolwich. The image shows a man wearing a brown jacket and carrying what appears to be a large knife, speaking to the woman beside a blue car which has significant damage to its front end at the scene where another man died following the attack. The two alleged attackers are thought to have waited around for 20 minutes until Metropolitan Police officers arrived and then tried to attack them--but were swiftly shot by armed policemen, including a woman.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point.
