The results of the presidential election were certainly a sharp disappointment for those on the right, but conservatives shouldn’t be looking for any non-fiscal cliffs to throw themselves from. Nor should Dems see any grand mandate for President Obama’s policies. Obama won small, and the nation and Congress remain as divided as before the election. A Republican comeback in 2014, taking control of the U.S. Senate, would change the picture greatly. By 2014, Americans will have had a much bigger taste of what a second Obama term means in their daily lives

Don´t betray us Boehner! Do not raise the debt ceiling - it is our major leverage. You will be vilified no matter how "bipartisan" you are. So for once, act on conservative principles, not your alcohol addled egotism.
2014 has a reasonable opportunity to be a repeat of 2010. The conditions and quality of life will be, as the article says, measurably worse. Also, there will be no single standard bearer who is at odds with the grass roots. Time for the Tea Party Nation and Sarah to step in.
I think he is right about the 2014 election and I also think that the Democrats will never ever find a candidate like Mr. Obama again. Certainly not Hillary! I think it´s a mistake to look at this last election as a repudiation of conservative values, we have to look at it as a popularity contest because most Obama supporters were ill informed, superficial and media hyped and he was just so hip and cool! They won´t have their savior next time because they´re are going to discover to their disappointment that he can´t run again. And after all his policies bring us to the brink of disaster, they probably won´t vote.
I am not so optimistic. Nothing has changed in the blue states and open borders are rapidly eroding Texas. Florida is gone. Conservatives may be right on principles, but they do not matter with classes, or ethnic groups. California was once blue, and is now a one party state. Without some change, just waiting for election is a false hope.
Agree with above posters. By Nov 2014 when Obamacare has already taken hold and the mandates hit the 99% crowd (who think everything is free), we will take the Senate big time. Hopefully by 2016 with a GOP prez we can repeal Obamacare like Prohibition was repealed. Or will it be too late?
Count me among the pessimists. By 2016 ObamaCare will be a permanently entrenched bureaucracy, as untouchable as the Departments of (so called) Energy and Education. People may be dissatisfied with it but they´ll be DEPENDENT on it, which will be all that matters electorally. The other side understands this. And a newly elected 2014 Republican senate will have no power to influence or counteract that developing dependency.
And by 2016 the courts will be gone, and all of you should know what that means. Any measure passed by a conservative president and congress from 2017 on which imperils the socialist status quo will be shopped through the courts and eventually up to a left wing SCOTUS, which will have its majority decision written beforehand.
It´s tempting to want to be hopeful, but we need to face the fact that we´ve past the point of no return.
Don´t double down on Sarah Palin "Let´s keep the primary going until the convention" idiocy. Mitt couldn´t define himself while he was fighting the class warfare of Newt and the strict anti abortion and gay marriage issue of the hard right.
Keep up the Mitt blame, that RINO monster, and you destroy Paul Ryan by association. Moderate the absolutist position on abortion which was in the platform even though Mitt was not going to go into social reform. Akin and Mourdock loss needs be kept in mind.
Keep up the no gay unions and you will see gay marriage put in place which will intrude on your own rights. Instead we should go gung ho on finding common ground on gay unions--the only way to avoid gay marriage. The young do not feel anything against gay marriage and their feeling trumped any thought or reason.
Voter fraud, voter ID a major issue as is the power to sue the Constitutional law breakers of the GOP governors. Work locally to get more republicans OF ANY ILK into Congress. Look at the post election maps--vast land area is red. Gop governors and Congressional reps are doable and can be shown by their individual states economies (if survive obama)
obama maybe more interested in his jet setting, transnational legacy than in turning us commie which he in frustration said couldn´t be done from the inside and the national secrets he has not already revealed? He has to remember bin Laden´s fate if he is too blatant?
I absolutely agree with #6. We won´t do any better in 2014 than we did last week. The reason for that is there will be MORE "takers" by then. Those people are the reason Obama was re-elected. There are more of them than us and as long as they continue to get their FREE health care, housing, phones and everything else in their lives, they will continue to vote DEMOCRAT. They could care less what happens to this country. To them, they´re living large! Until THEY feel some PAIN, nothing is going to change...ever. Democrats will see to it that those "Takers" are happy and comfortable. Get used to Democrat Rule!
ATHENS, Greece — The plight of an unknown girl found living with her alleged abductors in a Greek Roma settlement has triggered a global outpouring of sympathy and tips — but no breakthrough in identifying the child, authorities said Monday. Greek investigators are considering everything from potential child trafficking to welfare scams or even simple charity as they seek the child´s biological parents. (Snip) The story has resonated particularly in Britain, where the tabloid press drew parallels with missing girl Madeleine McCann, who disappeared at age three from a Portuguese resort six years ago.
The George Soros-funded National Immigration Forum (NIF) is organizing a “fly-in” of what it calls conservatives from across the country aimed at lobbying House Republicans for an amnesty bill. (Snip) “The fly-in is being organized not by conservative groups, but organizations that have focused on legalizing millions of people who are in the U.S. illegally and changing the legal immigration system to bring in more foreign workers,” Gomez wrote on Monday. He noted that the 300 activists for an immigration grand bargain were looking to make what he described as a “conservative pitch” for amnesty.
Folks who live in the Great Smoky Mountains have just about reached their breaking point with the federal government. “It’s almost like they are pushing to see how far they can push before the American people say enough is enough,” said Ed Mitchell, the mayor of Blount County, Tenn. “We were founded on a declaration of independence. And they are about to push the people to the line again.” Nearly a third of Blount County is inside the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. So when the federal government shut down the park, it also shut down one of the area’s chief sources of
A group of Texas congressmen armed with wire cutters made their way to the World War II Memorial in Washington after they learned the National Park Service had reinforced the barriers blocking the site with wire. “This is Chicago thuggery,” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) told me. “The president is trying to inflict the most amount of pain and suffering. This is not some bureaucratic mistake. This is Chicago thuggery. You try to make people hurt so they don’t resist what you tell them to do in the future.”
Lumber Liquidators (LL) plunged Friday after federal officials raided the hardwood flooring retailer´s Toano, Va., headquarters as part of a probe into possible illegal imports. But management told one analyst the company doesn´t know why it´s been targeted. The Department of Homeland Security, along with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, executed a sealed court-issued search warrant on Thursday at its Toano, Va., headquarters and at a Richmond, Va., store. (Snip) Reynolds noted that Lumber Liquidators is a sponsor for conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh.
A 2007 prediction that summer in the North Pole could be “ice-free by 2013” that was cited by former Vice President Al Gore in his Nobel Peace Prize acceptance speech has proven to be off… by 920,000 square miles. In his Dec. 10, 2007 “Earth has a fever” speech, Gore referred to a prediction by U.S. climate scientist Wieslaw Maslowski that the Arctic’s summer ice could “completely disappear” by 2013 due to global warming caused by carbon emissions. Maslowski told members of the American Geophysical Union in 2007 that the Arctic’s summer ice could completely disappear within the
If you think the Obama health law is only for the uninsured and you won´t be affected, you´re in for a surprise next time you go to the doctor. Be prepared for questions unrelated to why you are seeking medical help — questions that you don´t want to answer. Whether you´re at the dermatologist or the cardiologist, you´ll likely be asked: "Are you sexually active? If so, do you have one partner, multiple partners or same-sex partners?" Doctors are being turned into government agents, where they´re pressured financially to ask questions … and violate their Hippocratic Oath ...
The question all week long was this: Who are you going to believe, an illegal alien or the president of the United States of America? Obviously, if it’s a president who once went by an alias, Barry Soetoro, you go with Uncle Omar, 100 percent, no questions asked. And so it was that the White House finally admitted to another, uh, misstatement — despite previous denials, Barack/Barry did sleep on his beloved Uncle Omar’s couch in Cambridge when he first moved here to attend Harvard Law School (speaking of which, we’re still waiting to see the president’s grades and his LSAT scores). But the
How do you get your arms around the catastrophe known as Obamacare? Is it even possible? At this point, I’m not sure it is. The list of individual disasters which threaten to ruin one-sixth of the U.S. economy and what has been, up until now, the best healthcare system in the world is exhaustive, and exhausting. The examples I will identify here barely scratch the surface. First but by no means foremost, we have the supposedly new and improved HealthCare.gov. Except it’s not, even the visible part. Stories still abound of people still failing to get in or to get through the enrollment
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
