Christian Right Failed to
Sway Voters on Issues

New York Times, by Laurie Goodstein

Original Article

Christian conservatives, for more than two decades a pivotal force in American politics, are grappling with Election Day results that repudiated their influence and suggested that the cultural tide — especially on gay issues — has shifted against them. They are reeling not only from the loss of the presidency, but from what many of them see as a rejection of their agenda. They lost fights against same-sex marriage in all four states where it was on the ballot, and saw anti-abortion-rights Senate candidates defeated and two states vote to legalize marijuana for recreational use.

Worthless. It´s the NYT gloating and snarking.

If Christian conservatives or purists did not vote for a Mormon, or for a good man who is too "moderate" for them, then they essentially voted for a man who espouses the views of Jeremiah Wright, one of Louis Farrakhan´s best friends. It absolutely boggles my mind.

Perhaps most voters saw the Christian right being represented by moron politicians, like Akin and Murdoch. It would be difficult for one to not make that association.

Idiotic words emanating from the mouths of those who are extremely stupid have ramifications. That is a fact of life.

In the Old Testament, when Israel began to turn away from God and began embracing the Idols of other nations, they didn´t actually abandon God, they still worshiped Him, but started worshiped other gods along with God. They brought other gods along side God, as if to cover all the bases, but never committing to any of them completely.
Because Idols serve man, when the gods of other nations were merged with God, it lowered and devalued God into another servant to man. Instead of the people serving God, God and all other gods became servants of the people; to their desire, wishes and wants. Bad idea!

The majority of Americans who claim to believe in God today, don´t worship Him exclusively. They may believe in Him but they also worship the gods of pleasure, wealth, possessions, entertainment, pride and a host of other self-indulgent gods. Worship of government can also be included in that list, the provider and enabler of a slothful self-indulgent lifestyle.

If this last election is an indicator of anything, it´s an indicator that God has turned America over to its own self-indulgence and the gods that encourage it. God has pulled away from being our servant and retains His positioned of deity, controlling our future.

God says He is a jealous God, he will not tolerate the allegiance to any other gods without discipline or judgment. America wants it all and wants it now and will end up with nothing because the gods it wants to worship are destructive.

I think the gay community was well organized and succeeded in painting opponents of gay civil marriage as being opponents of happy families. The liberal mainstream media had a field day with the rape mis-statements from two Republican candidates.

When one has no Christian values, anything goes....see gay marriage, etc. Sadly many churches have decided that the Bible and its teachings are just "suggestions or guides"....see Episcopal church and now many black churches.

The secular and progressives have no real moral compass...."I can do anything I want at anytime."

Those who are Christians and not just Christians in name only will not vacillate nor change their beliefs. The media in this country promote anything but Christian values....tells you alot about the on-air personalities. It is not the Christian right as the headline states. For Christians there is no Tight or Left but just plainly and simply Christian values as stated in the Bible. No such thing as a partial Christian.....I believe in God but I also endorse and support all sorts of behaviors that God finds offensive.

FTA - evangelicals voted overwhelmingly for Mr. Romney — even matching the presidential vote of Mormons: 78 percent for Mr. Romney and 21 percent for Mr. Obama

They got their own to the polls, but that was about it.

Leave to someone who appears to be liberal Jewess to tell us what the ´Christian Right´ did or didn´t do.

The issues had NOTHING to do with Christianity or Conservatism´s ´right wing´ but has everything to do with common sense, self-responsibility and saving a government from killing itself and it´s citizens.

The GOP candidates only talked about abortion when asked about it. This campaign should have been strictly about the disastrous math we´re facings as a country. But, that would have worked against Obama so the press changed the subject: Binders, free birth control, the big beloved yellow bird, Senate candidates trying to grapple with ethical abortion issues better suited for an ethics debate at a seminary.

I´m as pro life as anyone. At this point so many millions of women have had abortions, many without a full understanding of what they were agreeing to. I believe the politics of making them examine that choice every election is never going to end well. Those women will understandably cling to the belief that the didn´t end the life of their own child.

And here´s the thing. You can´t unknowingly sin. If they were told by people thy loved and trusted that it was just a blobs of cells then they are blameless. You are responsible to God to the extent which he has revealed himself to you.

In the four Ultra-Blue states where pseudomarriage squaked through, the pro-man-woman marriage totals were HIGHER than those of the Republicans at the top of the ticket. Traditional marriage didn´t drag the Republicans down: if they had been "wedded to" real marriage as an issue, they would have improved their totals. The combined voice might even have pulled them over the top.

Same wih prolife. More people claim the "prolife" label than either Democrat or RTepublican. If there were a coherent, strong, confident pro-life, pro-marriage-sanity, pro-fiscal-sanity, no-nonsense ticket I think it could have beat the pants off of Obama-Biden.

Those secularists and atheists who are fully onboard with the moral decline of this nation could NEVER be persuaded by anyone of faith, no matter what. Two totally and completely different animals, apples and oranges. It´s certainly not any Christians place or task to "save" anyone nor could they if they so desired. Only the Creator God can do that and He makes it perfectly clear in His word that not all who learn/know about Him will come. He is implicit in His approach to those and it is spelled out very clearly in Romans 1:18-32. Know it and ignore it at your own peril.

It should not, perhaps, have been much of a surprise that Democratic leaders seized on the dedication of the statue of one-time D.C. resident Frederick Douglass at the United States Capitol as a chance to speak up for D.C. statehood and home rule. The ceremony was on Juneteenth, a holiday marking the day the Emancipation Proclamation went into effect in Texas that´s celebrated in Washington, D.C., and 42 states as the formal end of slavery. It marked the legacy of a man who was a great opponent of that peculiar institution and friend and adviser to President Lincoln --

Taoiseach Enda Kenny rounded on Independent TD Clare Daly after she accused him of showcasing Ireland “as a nation of pimps, prostituting ourselves in return for a pat on the head”. He described as a disgrace remarks about US president Barack Obama, whom she described as a “war criminal” who had increased by 200 per cent the use of drones, resulting in the deaths of thousands of people. She said there was speculation this morning on “whether you were going to deck the Cabinet out in leprechaun hats decorated with a bit of stars and stripes to really mark abject humiliation”.

WASHINGTON — President Obama is preparing regulations limiting carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants, senior officials said Wednesday. The move would be the most consequential climate policy step he could take and one likely to provoke legal challenges from Republicans and some industries. Electric power plants are the largest single source of global warming pollution in the country, responsible for nearly 40 percent of greenhouse gas emissions. With sweeping climate legislation effectively dead in Congress, the decision on existing power plants — which a 2007 Supreme Court decision gave to the executive branch —

Wasn’t Dzhokhar also wounded by the cops at some point? He’s a victim of gun violence too, you know. Am I awake? The event [in Concord, New Hampshire] had people supporting the Mayors Against Illegal Guns movement, founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, reading the names of those “killed with guns” since the Dec. 14 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary outside their “No More Names” bus… Some of the loudest shouts came when a reader spoke the name of Tamerlan Tsarnaev, one of the Boston Marathon bombing suspects who was killed by police during a gunfight. “He’s a terrorist,” several protesters shouted.

Today, speaking at the Brandenburg Gate, President Obama paid appropriate tribute to the brave East Germans who rebelled 60 years ago against Communist dictatorship: "Today, 60 years after they rose up against oppression, we remember the East German heroes of June 17th. When the wall finally came down, it was their dreams that were fulfilled." But he drew a strange lesson from their uprising: "Their strength and their passion, their enduring example remind us that for all the power of militaries, for all the authority of governments, it is citizens who choose

Washington -- P. Jeffrey Black bumped up against his bosses in the Federal Air Marshal Service, eventually becoming a whistle-blower and testifying to a closed-door congressional hearing before his retirement in 2010. He had taken a long list of complaints to lawmakers about how the air marshals service was run, ranging from problems keeping marshals on flights to allegations of ineptitude and favoritism by managers. The same year he retired, he appeared in "Please Remove Your Shoes," a documentary critical of the airline security measures travelers endure on every trip. Then came the audit,

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
