| In a Thursday afternoon item carried at the Los Angeles Times via reporters Shashank Bengali and Joseph Serna (HT NewsBusters tipster Gary Hall), New York Governor Andrew Cuomo claimed that "When we built New York, we didn’t think about floods, about storms. We didn’t have hurricanes and floods. ... Extreme weather is here to stay. Climate change is a reality. Political gridlock has held us back too long. ... Maybe Mother Nature is telling us something. One time, two times, three times. There are places that are going to be victimized by storms. We know that now.

...we know that politicians are not the sharpest out there, look what we´ve elected recently, but for too many, the world exists only with the boundries of their own memories, which are strictly "short term" only...

In 1954 Hazel brought 113 mph winds to Central Park. Six weeks earlier Carole had blown over Long Island with 120 mph wind gusts. Between those two Edna had passed just a bit to the east but still dumped up to nine inches of rain on Long Island. Three major storms in six weeks and nary a word about climate change!

Andrew should remember a number of hurricanes that have hit New York, since he was born there in 1957. There have been approximately 3 dozen hurricanes, and many tropical storms, since then. Some have been minor, but many took lives and did serious damage from winds, storm surge and beach erosion.
There have been more than eighty recorded hurricanes and tropical storms to hit the New York area since the first known storm around 1300 AD. Surely man-made global warming didn´t cause all of them.

Yeah, I guess he forgot the Great Colonial Hurricane in the 16th century....those Pilgrims sure must have driven a LOT of SUVs. And then in 1938, we had the Long Island Express superstorm...and we ALL know how popular the SUV was then!!! Then several storms in the 50´s, 60´s & 70´s, and I think Cuomo was even alive during some of that time... Yeah, I like that...dumber than a sack full of Democrats!!!

It´s not the hurricanes that are the problem. It´s the trees, which get bigger every year.
Photos from 100 years ago of the Northeast U.S show few large trees. In those days, they were cut down for lumber, heat houses, and clear for agricultural use. Up went the overhead power lines. Now the trees are back, huge.
Add to that, some hilly terrains in the NorthEast are on massive shale formations, not a lot of dirt. Many massive trees have root systems that go down less than two feet. The trees try to grip the rocks, but that doesn´t work very well.
Nothing to do with climate change.

When Cuomo ran HUD, I guess losing $3 billion was another thing he didn´t think about. Therefore, malfeasance, greed, and burglarizing the taxpayer´s treasury is a reality and with demonrats running things, is here to stay.

Cuomo should have contacted a southern governor. They are very experienced with disasters, & could have helped him a great deal. ... but I guess they all repubs soo he called the won and the won went golfing....

#13, I bet Cuomo thought he was entitled to that. Had friends from NJ who told of the shake down and protection rackets going on there just like Chitown. Hard to run a business in NY and NJ without greasing somebody´s palms. I guess Cuomo thought his palms deserved greasing for his fine, outstanding work at HUD.

Sounds like if there has been any climate change it has meant fewer hurricanes in recent years.
BTW, if Cuomo is the Democrats ´´Great White Hope´´ for 2016 I´m feeling more confident about the future every day.

There seems to be bipartisan consensus that whatever the White House is doing to fend off scandal is making things worse. Howard Fineman sounds a lot like Right Turn these days: “White House aides are tempting fate with their reluctant, piecemeal and contradictory disclosures of what they knew and when they knew it, especially about a report on the Internal Revenue Service’s 18-month effort to target tea party and other conservative groups for special scrutiny.” The constantly shifting stories from Jay Carney and the IRS dissembling and pleas of ignorance only heighten concern that there has been serious wrongdoing.

John Podhoretz has a good column today on the Obama administration’s travails. I did not know this bit until I read the column: Even more startling, the search warrant makes clear that the FBI already had everything it needed on the leaker, as the request for a search warrant features quotes from an interview that were tantamount to a confession. The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
