| In the wake of Tuesday’s election, we are hearing lots of talk about bipartisanship and statesmanship, with the unstated premise that statesmanship and bipartisanship are automatically the same thing. Nothing could be further from the truth. (Snip) If the election battle was indeed a war of ideas, and the president’s ideas prevailed, where does that leave the losing party?Let’s be brutally frank. In essence, Republicans are now prisoners of war who have a hard decision to make:Should they collaborate with their captors in order to try to obtain better treatment for themselves and their constituents?
|
Comments: An analysis of why the GOP should not "collaborate" with the enemy, using the metaphor of "Bridge on the River Kwai" to say the GOP should "blow up the bridge" of bipartisanship rather than be co-opted for a socialist agenda.

They won´t be treated as well as POWs. At least as well as POWs are supposed to be treated under the conventions.
Most of the GOP establishment seems under the illusion that this was just another defeat and in 2014 or 2016 or eventually they will take power again. Meanwhile matters won´t get too nasty, la, la, la.
Not so.
I have sympathy for their plight and there is no hope except in resisting. In honesty I don´t see how they will be effective.
The brutal joke about thermodynamics comes to mind. "You can´t win, you can´t break even, and you can´t quit the game."

I´m sorry, but I cannot read it. The analogy may have been fitting for 2008, when Obama was elected president and the democrats captured the House and a filibuster-proof Senate. It most certainly does NOT apply in 2012. The Republicans still control the House despite gerrymandered districts designed to turn it Democrat again. Republicans have NOT been taken prisoner. The American people may have given the first black president another chance, but the only message he can take away from it is that he must moderate and work with Republicans if he wants anything other than four years of gridlock. We didn´t want Obamacare, and we sent a Republican House to Washington to be sure there will bo no more of that nonsense.
Oh, and let´s get this clear right up front. We did NOT return a Republican majority to the House with instuctions to play dead on everything. We would have voted Democrats in again if that was what we wanted. The Republican House is there to block Obama´s radicalism.

John Boehner is no William Holden. We have a permanent political class running Washington. Eventually crazy Joe Biden, John Boehner, Mitch McConnell and Harry Reid will negotiate our lives away. Republicans won´t stand up and shut the government down.

As I reflect on this election, it occurs to me that the campaign was more a campaign of hate against a culture--a race, if you will--than against a candidate. It wouldn´t have mattered who had run, the focus would have been the same. We´ll never be able to come back as long as they have control of the media.
Revenge has been exacted on the slaveholders of old. Compromise would equal appeasement and should not be done.

FTA: ´´Do not imagine that building a bridge between Republicans and Democrats in these perilous times is good for the country.´´
There are those who are weak when we blow the ´´bridge´´ who will say, ´´Madness,´´ but they should just take their stuff and move to some tropical socialist paradise & leave the rest of US alone. Capitalist are innovators & creators, with a vision of the greatness that can be, not myopic losers that want to punish themselves and others for their lack of ambition and vision.
They blame the rich who created wealth and gave them jobs to feed their families, only to desire the material things of life instead of the spiritual that will fill their soul and heart. Sadly, we made a machine that is going to eat its creator to fuel its needs. Only problem is, when the fuel runs out, anarchy will ensue. History will be repeated and man will once again cry out to God for guidance and mercy.
BTW, I completely forgot about the two or three more justices that 0bama may now appoint to the Supreme Court. Romney and his team failed US in bringing out this important fact during the election. Frank Miele has written a chilling, but well thought out summation of the next four years. If we don´t try to obstruct 0bama & the dRATS at every stage of his bridge to nowhere, we will all find ourselves getting there sooner than we expected. Was this what we baby boomers expected in retirement? This is truly a ''Must Read'' and words to ponder.

William Holden was only an actor. We need fewer actors and more non-actors in Washington. We need people who are real and who have principles and who are persuasive. The persuasive part of the equation must not be forgotten. It is crucial to getting John Smith to push the button in your favor. You have to persuade and not just describe.
Persuasion is a bit of an art form. Yet, some were naturals at it. Ronald Reagan - ironically an actor - was one of the most principled and persuasive people around. In essence, we need something that is lost in the maelstrom of management consultants and advisors that has swamped the political world in recent years: plain-speaking leaders with principles who will persuade.

Even this article makes the assertion that Constitutionality of federal law (e.g. Obamacare) can only be decided by the US Supreme Court. In truth, the several States were given this power as well. It was only later that the Supreme Court asserted this power as its own. We need more states asserting their 10th amendment right to decide whether to abide by unconstitutional (as decided by the States) federal law.

Reply to No. 13: Realistically the Supreme Court does decide constitutionality. Otherwise Obamacare would only be valid in 24 states (or less) since 26 of them sued to stop it. Your solution would seem to be mainly a path to breaking up the nation into a confederation. We can certainly consider that, but it would no longer be the United States of America.

We are now dealing with a "lame duck" president. Our side has nothing to lose in defying 0bama at every turn. Just say "no", it´s as simple as that. Just be very happy that we still prevail in the house. All our beloved president can do is call us a do nothing congress. That´s good enough for me.

Whenever I think of Statesmen, I think of John C. Calhoun... or Robert E. Lee...
Unless Miele and Boehner trade places... we are doomed... almost...
Because there is always hope as Pastor preached on the persuasive, passionate, persevering and persistent widow from Luke 18:1-8... She had no standing as a woman in Jewish culture and there was no male to petition on her behalf... but even the unrighteousness judge honored her request for justice because of her perseverance ...
Stand strong, GOP! Do Not compromise!
No reaching anywhere...

The so-called “comprehensive immigration reform bill” is just the latest turn of the screw in the ongoing campaign to fundamentally transform America into a socialist republic.Sadly, it may just be a matter of time before Congress surrenders its responsibility to protect our country and passes this bill, almost certainly resulting in a new America that will be less affluent, less secure, less educated and less relevant, but certainly more international in character. What’s funny — ha-ha funny in a sick humor kind of way, but also rather peculiar funny — is that our Congress doesn’t seem to give a damn

“Let me assure you that the trifling problem you brought us today is already put safely to bed... The memorandum itself is now being thoroughly and plausibly denied by its authors and blamed on an overzealous local bureaucracy somewhere in the barren Midwest.” If the government were running surveillance on itself rather than the AP, this quote could almost have been taken from a wiretap at IRS headquarters in Washington, D.C., just after word of the agency’s targeting of Tea Party conservatives hit the street. [SNIP]Actually, the quote is from Glenn Beck’s 2010 thriller, “The Overton Window”

Have the terrorists already won? Did the enormity of 9/11 somehow short-circuit our brains so that we now view smaller levels of political violence as somehow acceptable? Or are we being intentionally conditioned to excuse terrorism as a legitimate means of effecting social change? [SNIP] The evidence is overwhelming that, whether intentionally or not, Western society has become habituated to violence that in previous generations would have spurred not just outrage but immediate action.Call it the terrorist’s best friend —the ultimate reason why terrorism is effective in the first place— a sort of Stockholm syndrome response to violence.

“The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,/But in ourselves, that we are underlings.”—Shakespeare, “Julius Caesar” (Act I,Scene ii.)The ambiguity of Shakespeare’s famous tragedy about the end of the Roman republic and the onset of dictatorship teaches us that no matter how much we yearn for clarity, there is always an element of uncertainty in the fate of nations.Motive is subjective. Intention is debatable. Facts are elusive.[SNIP]But when you get right down to it, the fault for the nation’s general ignorance about the Benghazi coverup does not belong to the media;it belongs to ourselves.

I got an e-mail from Democratic lobbyist John Podesta last week that began “Dear Friend,” so I knew it had arrived at my inbox by accident. Podesta was the last chief of staff during the Bill Clinton presidency, and is currently the chair of the Center for American Progress, which as you can tell by the name is one of those groups trying to undermine our nation’s values and traditions under the guise of marching us into the 21st century’s version of “1984.” (Are we there yet?) One of the best levers the progressives have found to muscle us

On Friday, we were warned by Sen. Chuck Schumer not to “jump to conclusions” about “the events in Boston” or “to try to conflate those events” with the immigration reform bill hammered out by Schumer and the other seven senators who have appropriately identified themselves as gangsters. Schumer, a N.Y. Democrat, and the bipartisanly incorrect “Gang of Eight” unveiled their massive, 844-page immigration “reform” bill last week and hoped to rush it to a vote before anyone even knew what was in it.[SNIP] so let’s call it what it is: The Illegal Immigrant Legalization Bill.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
