After 14 years in the House of Representatives, Rep. Mary Bono Mack (R-Calif.) has conceded defeat in her race against Democrat Raul Ruiz. “Today, I called Dr. Ruiz and congratulated him on his impressive victory. Dr. Ruiz will do a fine job if he is guided as well by the people of the congressional district as I was. Please give him the opportunity to succeed,” she said in a statement on her Facebook page. “After 25 years of public life in the beautiful desert, it is now time for me to start a new chapter in my life.

Frankly I am not a fan of widows "inheriting" their husbands congressional seats.

Understand she did a good job as a rep. Too bad Ruiz won, not good for the country at all. Cali is truly a crazy place.

Just throwing this out there, but I seem to recall that Mary Bono Mack is somewhat socially liberal, that is, she does not oppose abortion. Is that correct? If I am correct, why did she lose? I thought the election was all about the war on women?

Good poster 1. Poster 12, no. All too close to call house races can be written off. The contest in southern Arizona for "gabby´s" seat is being stolen. Republicsn Martha Mcsally led on election day by 1300 votes. But 70000 ballots were uncounted. Her lead is cut to 400 now and they are still counting. It´s over. McSally has no chance.

Republicans give generous, high falutin´ concession speeches.
Democrats recount until they win.

As Joe Biden might have calculated, this election can be summed up in a four letter word:

Sad

They are targeting and eliminating Republlicans. Here in Broward County, Florida, a Republican who has been Sheriff for some years, and who has been doing a great job, lost to a Democrat who didn´t even campaign. Outside the election venue Democrats passed out a paper to everyone who would accept one showing how the Party wanted you to vote. People were carrying them in and following to the letter. Even Democrats agreed that they were not dissatisfied with our Sheriff and it was unfair to vote him out just because he is a Republican, but they did it anyway.

Remember how Obama put all the car dealerships that contributed to Republicans out of business. This scorched earth policy is going to continue until all our people are out of office and out of business.

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Vice President Joe Biden really did get ahead of President Barack Obama on accepting gay marriage in 2012 — and the White House really wasn’t happy about it, despite the two leaders’ many attempts to claim otherwise. That’s the story laid out in Jo Becker’s new book, “Forcing the Spring,” which documents the past few years of successful efforts to expand the legalization of gay marriage, according to an advance copy obtained by POLITICO. Speculation that Biden’s comments on “Meet the Press” in May 2012 were meant as a trial balloon, Becker writes, came from people “not privy to the

WASHINGTON — Former President Jimmy Carter joined fellow Nobel laureates Wednesday in opposing Keystone XL, insisting that approving the pipeline would trigger “more climate upheaval” around the globe. In an open letter to President Barack Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry, Carter and the nine other Nobel Peace Prize winners bluntly warned the leaders: “Your decision on the Keystone XL tar sands pipeline will define your climate legacy.” The missive, published as an advertisement in Politico, represents the first time Carter has taken a position on the $5.4 billion project and makes him the first former president to come

President Obama said Wednesday that Russia realizes the U.S. military is “significantly superior” to its own and does not want war with the United States. Asked in an interview with CBS News about a Russian fighter buzzing a U.S. Navy ship in the Black Sea on Saturday, Obama said, “They’re not interested in any kind of military confrontation with us, understanding that our conventional forces are significantly superior to the Russians.” Obama accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of being behind uprisings in Ukraine in which government buildings have been taken over. AUSTIN, Tex. — The last nine months of Rick Perry’s tenure as the longest-serving governor of Texas were supposed to be a political victory lap. Greg Abbott, the Republican state attorney general, and Wendy Davis, the Democratic state senator, both of whom are vying to replace Mr. Perry, have been sparring across Texas. Meanwhile Mr. Perry has been traveling the country and the world promoting the robust Texas economy and bolstering his national profile as he considers another run for president in 2016. GUANTANAMO BAY NAVAL BASE—Victims of the 9/11 terror attacks expressed shock that the FBI may be meddling in the hearings here, and some speculated that it is part of an effort by the Obama administration to completely derail the hearings and force them into federal court stateside. Families of those killed in the 9/11 terror attacks traveled here with the intent of watching their family members’ accused killers face justice. However, many say they were horrified earlier this week when pre-trial hearings came to a halt over revelations that the FBI had launched an investigation into the accused terrorist’s defense

Earlier today, Judicial Watch made public a batch of documents that it received from the IRS in response to a Freedom of Information Act request. The documents consists of a series of emails relating to the IRS’s treatment of applications for 501(c)(4) status from “Tea Party” or otherwise conservative organizations. I am still working my way through the emails, but have a few preliminary observations. First, the most significant ones I have seen so far have already been widely discussed. The email below documents a call from the Department of Justice about whether non-profits that “lied” about doing political activity

Megyn Kelly’s "Kelly File" is a great news show. She’s incisive, informed and customarily handles the toughest guest with aplomb. But her lengthy interview of Facebook C.O.O. Sheryl Sandberg about her second book in the Lean In series Lean In: For Graduates was a head shaker. Amazing that she of all people allowed Sandberg to restring the same old, same old, shamed, and shopworn feminist myths about women and girls and then jangle it in front of her viewing audience like something new out of the box. On Saturday, I wrote about the standoff at Bundy Ranch. That post drew a remarkable amount of traffic, even though, as I wrote then, I had not quite decided what to make of the story. Since then, I have continued to study the facts and have drawn some conclusions. Here they are. First, it must be admitted that legally, Bundy doesn’t have a leg to stand on. The Bureau of Land Management has been charging him grazing fees since the early 1990s, which he has refused to pay. Further, BLM has issued orders limiting the area on which Bundy’s cows can

Like him or hate him, there is no disputing that Rush Limbaugh’s very special brand of mixing right-wing politics with his flare for entertainment has produced one of the most successful radio programs in the medium’s long history. Whatever the burning political question of the day, millions of Americans have relished the opportunity to tune into Rush’s program, knowing that he would quickly take that hot potato, throw a few gallons of verbal kerosene into the mix and elevate the matter into a five alarm fire with a just a few well-chosen words spoken in the style only Rush Limbaugh could

Less than a minute into his speech at the Boston marathon bombing memorial on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden went tragically off script and told the crowd of Boston bombing survivors that "it was worth it." After expressing how impressed he was with the tribute, he said somberly, "let me say to those ´quote survivors,´ my God, you have survived and you have soared. It was worth it. I mean this sincerely - just to hear each of you speak. You´re truly, truly inspiring." The audience sat in stunned silence until Biden declared, "I´ve never heard anything so beautiful than

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as
