America, as a free country, is finished...juat wait until Jan.1...sorry folks.

I am wondering when seniors get those increases next year, if there won´t be a major outcry from them making some of these dims senators think twice about repealing it. There certainly will be a backlash to AARP!

People will be hollering for a "do over" election very quickly. Washington Democrats will pay dearly in 2012. Maybe enough people will have gotten their eyes opened by then and start an uprising.

I´m one of those seniors and FYI this is a narrative of how some Americans see it.

So far I am fortunate.

As a retiree my former employer provides insurance. At first it was free. Then I has to start paying 10% of the premiums, now I think it will be 20% next year.

I don´t pay much attention, it is still of little consequence. But added costs could be a difficulty for others.

It is also a horribly complex mess in several ways. I think it works this way:

My doctor bills my insurer and they in turn bill Medicare. Medicare then pays almost nothing. My insurer then also pays nothing and I end paying the unpaid remainder.

Does that seem odd? Well it isn´t. The plan pays any costs over $2000 per year. Below that, nada.

Now ObamaCare seems to be tinkering with the terms. The Lord only knows what will happen if I ever need serious care. I sure can´t figure it out.

The good news. I am 80 and seldom visit a Doctor. 2010 was my last visit. With good luck - nay, with superb luck - I will die quickly and with little pain and never deal with the whole mess.

My daughter screamed at me for months before I would sign up for Social Security and Medicare a couple of years after I retired. It was that or go deaf. We all make bad decisions.

This is already costing thousands of people their jobs!

Hopefully those thousands were Obama voters, and their eyes will be opened !!

Sorry this is a personal medical story. I am so filled with despair over the election results that when I was at the dr. office I mentioned to the med. tech that I was incredibly worried about Obamacare and the future. She assured me that everything would be just fine. That we would have no problem surviving Obamacare and 4 more years of the Obama regime.

Well every fear inside me unleashed, including that the commander in chief is a Marxist. Heated words were exchanged. Let´s just end by saying that I´m glad she was not taking my b.p.

I have no choices. As of yesterday I had to opt out of my worker´s health plan. On Jan. 1 my contribution doubled to $800. But then I found out that the teachers who took out the same plan now have to actually fork over 4 cents a paycheck. The people who make twice as much and more than me pay 4 cents. That´s .04/$800 you do the math. Thanks teachers union. While I don´t have a problem with them getting a better deal this goes beyond a better deal. If it is going to get bad it will get bad quickly but will the idiots who voted this piece of slime into office even notice it?

AARP getting involved??? If I recall correctly they stood by and supported o-care. Tens of thousands of us dropped their AARP memberships as a result.

#22, #25 I know how frustrated and angry you are but blaming the seniors, I fear, is just buying into the Won´s divisional stategy. I am a senior who is still working and not on the gov. dole. I, along with millions of seniors and their employers, have paid into the the system. I do not want to leave a legacy of debt to my children and grandchildren. I will not play the blame game but will get back to work to take back my country. And, by the way, I and my husband are in the somwhere just above poverty, so could use the gov help but will keep our integrity and just keep trucking along. No Christmas cards and very few gifts to be given this year.

I´m a retired coal miner. I recieve a small portion of my retirement income from EXXON and the majority from Peabody Coal and Social Security. I also have my insurance through Peabody for the portion not covered by Medicare. I have to wonder how long I can rely on recieving the benefits I worked for from companies Obama is determined to destroy.

I think most people pay no attention. They get snipets from local TV then they are off to American Idol and The View. Another problem is that there was no campaign outside the battleground states. I live in Texas and saw not one ad on TV!

I have read various comments here and just wish to my 10 cents about one specific point. The Medicare Advantage programs that folks on Medicare are under, which replaces Medicare Parts A and B, and which costs a nominal fee, will be decimated and or eliminated under Obamacare. At that point, a person on Medicare Advantage will now be left with only Medicare. If they wish to supplement that program, they have to sign up for a supplemental program, which costs far more than the amount they paid while on the Advantage program. How could so many Seniors NOT UNDERSTAND THAT and still vote for Obama. I am speaking particularly about the State of
Florida. A Hispanic Senator, loss of Medicare Advantage, Many Jewish folks in the population, and still, I believe, a State that voted a person back into power who is going to take all those benefits from them.
It is incomprehensible to me that so many people either were so deluded, or so disloyal, or just so uninformed to vote as they did. Frankly, it is beyond understanding. And to top it off, A Governor whose background is in Health Care ( HCA ).
That is why I feel people, like me, are so upset. Nothing was rational about this election. Lastly, watching coal miners being interviewed on Tv stating they were going to vote for Obama, and KNOWING he was attempting to destroy their industry and force them out of their jobs. I´ve been saying that the Republicans have one more chance in the 2014 midterm election. Within the next few months when everyone, especially seniors, come to the realization of what they´ve done, every Democrat will be toast. We will end up with an almost total majority in both houses. The Dem´s have no where to run and they will be unable to excuse their way out. We need to stop as much as we can in the House until that time. I believe the electorate will support every effort out of anger.

After paying into Social Security (unwillingly) all of our working lives, it gives us enough to get thru the month. We both draw our military pensions, but we still are not that far above the poverty level, and after all this hits, we will be much closer to it. We have never taken gov´t assistance, and we still work to make ends meet. To paint all seniors with one broad brush is unfair to say the least. And one day, you too will be a senior. #50, most seniors from the "greatest generation" are dead now. All my uncles who fought in WWII are dead. This country started to go downhill in the 1960s, with the acceptance of drugs and other ills of morality. The school systems began their decline in the 70s.

If you were 20 in 1965 you are in your 70s now.

People keep thinking that seniors are their beloved grandparents for the WWII and Great Depression eras. Most of those people are gone now.

The seniors didn´t give us the Tea Party. Most events I have been to were people in their 40s and 50s.

I am not bashing seniors, but let´s not put them on a pedestal either. That group is just as at-fault as any other group. Now they can live with the consequences. Fortunately, my sisters and I have enough bucks to help my parents if they need it. The rest can, like I said, sell their china.

It won´t just be the seniors. The 30 hour a week threshold for part time works is going to kill those working in two huge sources of jobs for those trendy urban singles who so love Obama- the hospitality industry and temp agencies.

The cutbacks to part time status are just beginning. 30 hours is a particularly difficult threshold. The loss of 10 hours a week strips you of most discretionary income but it´s hard to work two 30 hour a week jobs week in and week out. Also a lot of the places that employ temps to work IT projects prohibit one from worker for simultaneously working for someone else in the same industry.

The 20 something son of an old friend has already been reduced to part time status. Free health care is about to become very expensive for these people.

Lay off the seniors. I worked till I was almost 74. I have a friend who is still working at age 77. We will eventually all die off but the welfare moms and their offspring will go on forever. How about some complaints about them?

Above poster was lucky to be able to work that long. My first age related layoff happened when I was in my mid-40´s. And after each one, there were fewer and fewer jobs available for us ´oldies.´

Nobody is claiming you didn´t work, contribute, serve, struggle, suffer, or aren´t patriotic.

But to claim you´ve "paid your fair share" and were forced to pay all these years is incorrect and also discounts the vastly higher amounts that we younger (and I´m 56) continue to pay to support you. You may have paid what was asked, but it was never enough to provide the benefits you´ve voted for. How many of you will reasearch the numbers?

Only the evil rich wage earners have or will have paid their "fair share" into Medicare given that program´s current path to bankruptcy. The average retiree receives benefits something on the order of 3 times their amounts withheld.

Social Security you´ve received, especially if you´ve been retired for more than a few years, is likely to be far more than any real-world return would have yielded from invested dollars and they continue to be increaded with no further financial commitment from you.

Over the years, the majority of seniors, either uninformed, misinformed, blatantly ignorant or yes, greedy, simply reject any sensible reforms...most of which would not even apply to them...and will vote or have voted accordingly. There are strength in numbers, even when you´re wrong. The left knows this and successfully exploits it with the seniors every election.

I find few my age or younger who don´t recognize these troubles or who aren´t in favor of reforms that they, and not even the current recipients, will experience.

The country is headed for financial collapse because of the unsustainability of these social programs. They remain the best investments you´ve never made.

I don´t know what #5 is talking about. I´m 66, and the way it works is that when you turn 65 you are funneled into Medicare, you have no choice. I also carry Blue Shield and pay a monthly premium for it because I wasn´t sure how Medicare would work out.

This summer I had an accident which required surgery and a lot of follow-up care. Nearly all of it was covered by Medicare and a small amount by Blue Shield. I received top-notch medical care overall and I thank our medical system. However I´m very worried how Obamacare will change the care we get, and Medicare being broke, etc.

Already my doctor doesn´t take anymore Medicare patients, because he is paid very low for them. I have read that thousands of doctors will retire, they don´t want to work for the government and be told what to do. It´s all very scary to me.

I have kept very well informed regarding Medicare, healthcare, and 0care. Just moved, and volunteering at local civic organization. (Trying not to be too obvious) They had a speaker from a conservative free-market think tank, who spoke on 0care. He gave an excellent summary of major parts of the piece of bull excrement, and the members were SHOCKED. Asked questions that showed they knew nothing, and just realized they had been impaled by a male organ. If not so achingly sad, I would have laughed out loud. Had a word with the speaker afterwards, told him how much I appreciated his info, and joined the think tank. Whatever.........

I don´t know if this going to wide-spread or a requirement under new regulations. My brother is a retired LA County fireman, and has excellent health insurance. He was told recently by his union all will be required to get Medicare Part B (and pay for it).

#62. I am #5 and you may well be right about how I got into Medicare.

I was still working at 66 and my employee may have just put me into Medicare since it would affect the company paid health insurance.

I wouldn´t have noticed another form to sign on my desk. I signed a lot of forms. And for years afterward I had no medical needs and saw little or no paperwork.

About Social Security itself I am sure. A couple of years after I retired I finally began drawing it. My daughter drove me to the office and a jolly fat lady signed me up.

A printout she gave me showed paid SS for 54 years. That made sense. I had a regular job at 12 or 13, forget which.

I was impressed with their records.

As far as Medicare payments. I think it paid about $10 of an $150 test in 2010. Clearly I didn´t care very much but I was mildly surprised.

My former wife has been very happy with Medicare payments and some of it was expensive care.

I prefer a plan that only pays when things get expensive, say over $2000/year. Simple and protective.

Others prefer coverage for all sorts of things and apparently ObamaCare requires all plans to cover specific items, making them complex.

As a senior, I don´t know if I should be more afraid of Zippycare or the posters today. Most days you confest to be Christians.

As a self employed person I paid double taxes and paid over a $1000 a month for insurance. If you worked for somebody else and had paid benefits, I´m happy for you however clueless you may be about the real world.

I guess these freebirds that voted for Bronco Bama don´t think they will get old someday. Forever young, they believe. Boy, will they be surprised. Due to the free abortions and birth control that we were forced to pay for, they will have aborted the next generation and there will be no one left to cover their expenses for them. I work at a company where the average age is 58 yrs. old. People don´t retire, we just die off. There are a few younger ones, but the layoffs start with them. We all joke that we are financial hostages and will continue to work while dragging our IV poles to work with us. The owner comes to work every day. He is 88 yrs. old.

This is making me very sad. This is what socialism does. It turns us on one another because you realize...everyone is out for themselves and so I need to look out for me and mine so screw you! This is not the way we should he reacting. We need to band together...start communities with actual values...stop spreading out so far across the map and decide on states we can invade and actually make a difference in the electoral map. Our ground game sucks and we need to get better. This is life and death. I´m angry too but pointing fingers at each other is only going to make it worse. We need to form conservative places of refuge for times of crisis with laws like "if a man won´t work he won´t eat." And learn to survive outside the government until we can rebuild. Man up people.
