| A half-cent sales tax proposed by Los Angeles City Council President Herb Wesson could have a modest but negative effect on sales activity, with the biggest impact felt by sellers of building supplies, according to an analysis released Friday. Beacon Economics, a consulting firm advising L.A. leaders, projected a decrease in sales of up to 1.3% if voters approve the tax March 5, with no effect at all for restaurants, supermarkets and service stations. However, the sale of building materials -- among the most expensive purchases -- could decline as much as 3.9%, the report said.

People who live near the county line will leave the county to shop. Taxes are counter-productive as a way to increase revenue.

Many friends have been doing their major shopping - large purchases like automobiles, etc., plus large Christmas gift shopping - in nearby Orange County. Expect this will increase now. Americans are clever at finding ways around this kind of confiscatory taxation.

I can tel you that when Marin county had a tax hike, I had business decrease, when the tax expired, some, but not all, of the business returned. People found other sources and it is easier to continue what one is doing.
Between the two level tax increases, I am probably out of business, and on the dole until I can find something else to do. At my High point I was giving the state about 10-12 grand a year in sales tax, in 2012 it will be about 5-6. Good thinking guys!

Will the stupid people in America ever stop being stupid?
All during Tuesday night, I kept thinking of ´Kristallnacht,´ in Germany, November, 1938 -- when the paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party (the Brown Shirts) carried out a series of coordinated attacks against synagogues, Jewish shops, and some 30,000 Jews were arrested and thrown into concentration camps.
And as horrible as that all was, the great under-reported story was that the majority of the ´good German people´... did NOTHING.
That was a tipping point for Germany, as was last Tuesday night here.
Will the ´good people of America´ wake up before it is too late?

Emergency services were called to 70 separate incidents, including two torched primary schools, burning shops and a destroyed library building also housing a local police unit. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election.
