| Only three days after the contentious 2012 election, the Supreme Court announced today that it would take up a major voting rights case; it will be heard in the next few months and decided by June. At issue is Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, which was passed in 1965. It’s a central provision of the law that requires states with a history of voter discrimination, mostly in the South, to clear any changes to their election laws with federal officials in Washington. The Supreme Court’s decision today comes just after a long and bitter election

News reports tell us there are still small towns that do stupid stuff; but Section 5 (along with entire law, maybe) needs to be thrown out.
We have Blacks in the WH, the Supreme Court, Congress and 4-stars in the military.
Now if the 47 percenters would stop whining and grow a work ethic, America could restore itself.

This will be another loss because the Supreme Court is stacked. There are 4 democrate party operatives, 3 constitutional conservatives, swing man Kennedy, and John Roberts who will make things up as he goes along.

Maybe they should review enforcing those laws regarding parking your horse and buggy in front of government buildings and women wearing patent leather shoes in public.
Oh, and if you drive at night through rural Pennsylvania, state law requires that you stop every mile to send up a rocket signal. But if you live in Pittsburgh, you better know that there is an ordinance against sweeping dirt under the rug!!
I mean, honestly, aren't these laws just as relevent and timely???

A law affecting only certain "states with a history of voter discrimination" is necessarily a bad law. No, I don´t support "voter suppression." But I am uncompromisingly against "one law for me, another for thee."
Like, to Coulter-ishly pull an example out of the air, insider-trading laws that give Congress exemption from securities laws that would put you or me in jail pronto. Or exempt Congress from Obamacare. Gee, the same "suspects!"
Further -- what "voting rights"? There´s no "right" to vote, no matter what Leftist troublemakers and uber-moron Michael Moore claim.

I can´t imagine the SC overturning all of it or Section 5 now.
Won´t Roberts just say Congress has the power to repeal it so he will leave it to them?
Washington is loathe to give up any power at all. And provisions that allows it to pee on the states are favorites.

As I recall, Roberts actually invited the case. I am pretty sure that he will vote to get rid of the old law. I assume that four others will join him. Maybe that is why Holder is possibly leaving. His days of filing racist lawsuits could be numbered.

Don´t count on it. After all, these very same states are the ones who want voter ID which demonrats oppose because it affects the dead vote, the cartoon character vote, the pet vote, etc.

DAMASCUS, Va - At least 50 people were injured Saturday after a car struck a crowd of hikers in the Appalachian Trail Days parade in Damascus. SAN JOSE— For most Americans in the United States, Armed Forces Day is not on the lists of likely holidays to honor the country’s military in celebrations of Memorial Day or Veteran’s Day. Sadly, most Americans may not even realize that Armed Forces Day is even a legitimate holiday. Armed Forces Day was established to be celebrated on the third Saturday in May. Dorothy, the 14-year-old peregrine falcon that since 2002 has nested on a 40th-floor ledge of the Cathedral of Learning in Oakland, was perched on the limestone railing next to that nest and her lone chick shortly before 9 a.m. Friday. She´d just fed the 22-day-old chick a small bird for breakfast. "Baltimore oriole ... again," said Kate St. John, who blogs about the city´s peregrines. Someone else watching from the office inside the window next to the nest said it looked like Dorothy was calmly "chilling." Ms. St. John´s response was that nothing could be further from the truth.

WASHINGTON — An Internal Revenue Service watchdog testified Friday that he told Obama administration officials in June that he was looking into allegations the IRS targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax-exempt status. The revelation by Inspector General Russell George came at the first congressional hearing on the IRS misconduct, which has generated a political firestorm since it was disclosed a week ago. George’s testimony represented the first evidence that officials in the Obama administration knew of the allegations as long as a year ago, during the presidential campaign.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
