| Planned Parenthood president Cecile Richards has advice for Republicans after their big defeat on Election Day -- to abandon their pro-life base. Following an election campaign in which the taxpayer-funded organization spent $15 million tearing down Republican candidates who vowed to cut off its federal funding, Richards now says she is reaching out to pro-choice Republicans. In an interview in The Huffington Post, Richards said, “Back in the olden days, the Republican Party was the party that supported people’s individual rights and keeping government out of personal health care decisions

Planned Parenthood began as the American Birth Control League to rid the "human garden of its weeds: Blacks, Jews, Catholics, Southern Europeans . . . . " Margaret Sanger intended to use birth control and sterilization to accomplish her mission. How's this for irony? Sanger opposed abortion and called it barbaric.

Killing babies is morally wrong regardless of what the law says.
Furthermore, even if the GOP disassociated from pro life the liberals would hate them just as much.
They just don't want to be reminded of the evil they are committing.

I see that everyone on the left is trying to tell the GOP that they should be more like the left. Support illegal immigrants, give on on abortion, tax everyone who has earned some money, give up your guns...
And I see the GOP falling for it because they so want to be loved and adored and maybe they'll get to play President next time.
I grieve for my country...

Social issues are an anchor around the neck of the GOP. If you are GOP, and you say the word "abortion", or "gay", you will lose. Face facts, GOP. If you want to win elections outside of the South, do not talk about social issues. Don't compromise your principles, but don't paint a target on your forehead, unless your name is Akin or Mourdoch, then, go ahead, but do it when you are a city councilman, not a Senate candidate.

As for the desperately pragmatic Fixit above, weasels are selected by other weasels. Planned Parenthood (if parenthood is allowed to occur) is an organization that profits from the misery of others, and does so through institutionalized homicide. I support those candidates who oppose such despicable practices and proclaim their convictions, and have the courage to accept the consequences. It seems that the concept of shame has been scrubbed from the national slate. What else can be expected from the Obama Ministry of Truth?

While I cannot stand Planned Parenthood and hate the Progressive eugenics ideology, I must say that this suggestion is not entirely crazy. I don't like abortion because I believe all potential life is a gift from God. But not everyone believes that. Now, I don't think anyone should dump anything. But I do think the GOP needs to take certain social issues off of the discussion. And one’s stand on abortion should NOT be a litmus test for being "conservative enough" either. A lot of Republicans do NOT necessarily believe that in the early term, a fertilized egg or embryo is a full, complete human being. The party would be much better to either completely drop this a platform issue or to softly accept only early first trimester choices while working diligently on educating the public about the reality and severity of the decision. We might not stop all abortion, but we could greatly cut down the number while continuing to get more support for the party. Ever since the party has taken hard stands against all forms of abortion, it has lost a LOT of support (voters) and any power to do anything to curb abortion. It has also allowed the left to turn abortion into an everyday, easy-to-get procedure that’s now all the way up to birth (which IS murder). And the left is still pushing it even further!
Isn't it better to make some headway in the right direction than to completely lose control and have everything roll in the wrong direction quickly?? Please think about it.
And yes, we should be standing for LESS government intrusion—not more.

By the way, dividing zygotes and tiny embryos are also not "babies"--nor are they sentient. Despite what some say, it is not necessarily as black and white as you want to make it.
To be honest, about 70% of all conceptions miscarry (that includes failure to implant). And about 30% of pregnancies, where implantation is confirmed, miscarry--but this is measured only at the earliest point of pregnancy detection. In general, among confirmed pregnancies within the first trimester (easily up to 5 or 6 weeks minimum), the number of miscarriages is actually closer to 15-20%. Of course, the further along the pregnancy progresses, the less likely it will miscarry. But my point is, that early term abortion is NOT necessarily so morally bankrupt an idea if your belief system is not stuck on the thought that "conception=life". And in truth, scientifically speaking, conception does not equal "life".

I'm confused, I thought the GOP was supposed to dump the Tea Party zealots in order to get elected. Wait, no, in order to win, the GOP was supposed to change their stance in illegal immigration. No, no, I'm wrong, the GOP was encouraged to embrace the GLBT voters and accept the "new norm" of gay marriage/adoption. My head aches, but I'll try again. The GOP must basically, no, fundamentally transform (heard those words before?) its platform and principles in order to WIN!!!!!! Cause winning is where it's at baby. I have a suggestion for PP: crawl back into your spider hole and keep doing what you do best.

I remember the Pubbie Party pre-Reagan and pre-Gingrich. It was Democrat-lite, with no core values and no victories/majorities in the House or Senate. What Reagan and Gingrich had was the ability to explain where we should be going in a manner many could understand. What we lacked in those two worthies and the rest of the party was someone who could explain why we should stay the course and enforce that discipline. The TEA party won 2010 without any support or real help from the Pubbies other than a party name to file for candidacy. If we say we value the individual, but are willing to kill the inconvenient, we do not value the individual. We need to stand on principal. The TEA party gives us ideological discipline.

If you want to see the demonrats abandon abortion then support it for the following reason
More than 40% of all the pregnancies by minority women end in abortion. The children they do not abort grow up to become democratic voters
If welfare queens faced mandatory abortion because they were on welfare then the number of children born to the ignorant, culturally backwards, illiterate women would fall and the democratic would have fewer voters.
Advocate abortion to control the cost of not only welfare but for things like Social Security
Support it call it what it is a way to control the number of voters for a particular group and see the democrats change.
Fight abortion with the truth of what abortion is.

The Republican Party caved to the Progressives several elections ago. This is just the final phase of the operation where it is all out in the open now, and the base is made to see the wisdom of abandoning unborn babies so that elections can be won by the Blue Pill Party that insists it´s a Red Pill Party.
The Party (Republican, that is) was over awhile back. What´s left is the remnants who make their money off the old system (pundits in the press) and therefore have a vested interest in keeping the illusion going. The Republican politicians know the score (hence you have Guvner Christie, Boehner and their ilk), and who kiss up to whatever Progressive is currently running things.
It´s over. It´s been over.

Aborting a child in its development is not a social or political issue. It is, As #22 said, a matter of life and death, and #21/23 raises the crux of the argument; when does life begin. If it is true that ´scientifically speaking, conception does not equal "life"´, (I don´t agree, I see no other clear line of differentiation) then where, scientifically speaking, does life begin?
Give us a definition to hang the question on and it will quickly be resolved. Keep defining it as a ´social´ issue - a matter of ´rights´ for everyone except the ultimate victim - and it will remain an amorphous derivation that can be made to fit any number of arguments that the opposition wishes to raise for why it should be okay to kill certain kinds of human beings.

Question for Cecile and the Pro Abortion posters. Why are you so enthusiastic about killing, fully ´sentient,´ fully developed, crying babies who survive abortion procedures? Why do you classify them as any different than babies you raise as your children? With today´s medical technology we often rescue babies many weeks before full term and most of society applauds that. Don´t you? If your baby is under stress and is delivered many weeks before a natural birth would happen, doesn´t that argue for moving the abortion deadline back to at least the time in the gestation period when the baby is still forming lungs? For ´woman´s choice´ fans the question is when do you lift the death sentence for your children? If there is a gray area in this argument, abortionists have shifted it way too far to their side of the argument. I´ll happily wrestle with the problem of incest, rape and mother´s health vs two crying babies, kill that one.

It was at this informal session with the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence that the ranking Democrat asked David H. It is never good for an administration when a front-page newspaper article about an ongoing controversy begins as follows: “The White House offered a new account Monday of how and when it learned .?.?. ” That’s what readers of The Post awoke to on Tuesday. In trying to contain the controversy and protect President Obama, White House officials have only added to questions about what happened. Until this week, the story of how White House officials learned that the Internal Revenue Service was targeting conservative groups was fairly straightforward. There are various reasons you might not care about the Obama administration’s spying on journalist James Rosen and labeling him a “co-conspirator and/or aider and abettor” in an espionage case. Liberals may not be particularly bothered because the targeted journalist works for Fox News. Conservatives may not be concerned because of their antipathy toward the news media generally. And the general public certainly doesn’t have much patience for journalists’ whining. But here’s why you should care — and why this case, along with the administration’s broad snooping into Associated Press phone records, is more serious than the other supposed

There seems to be bipartisan consensus that whatever the White House is doing to fend off scandal is making things worse. Howard Fineman sounds a lot like Right Turn these days: “White House aides are tempting fate with their reluctant, piecemeal and contradictory disclosures of what they knew and when they knew it, especially about a report on the Internal Revenue Service’s 18-month effort to target tea party and other conservative groups for special scrutiny.” The constantly shifting stories from Jay Carney and the IRS dissembling and pleas of ignorance only heighten concern that there has been serious wrongdoing.

I did not know this bit until I read the column: Even more startling, the search warrant makes clear that the FBI already had everything it needed on the leaker, as the request for a search warrant features quotes from an interview that were tantamount to a confession. There’s really no reason for the press to suggest that the recent slew of scandals involving the Obama administration — Benghazi, the AP phone-record seizure, the snooping in James Rosen’s e-mail, the IRS’s targeting of conservative groups, and so on — are a confusing jumble. There is a very clear thread running through all of the administration’s actions: The U.S. deputy chief of mission in Libya, Gregory Hicks, says that he was told not to speak to a member of Congress about Benghazi without a State Department lawyer present, that he received a phone call from Hillary Clinton’s

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
