| Eleven days after Hurricane Sandy made landfall, hundreds of thousands of utility customers in New York and New Jersey are still without power - and they want answers. Unfortunately, the answers provided by the power companies have generated even more anger and frustration. When asked Thursday night when power may be restored, LIPA Chief Operating Officer Michael Hervey told CBS Station WCBS the utility is aiming for the middle of next week. WCBS reports one spokesman suggested power may not be fully restored until Thanksgiving.
|
Comments: No power until Thanksgiving! We get storms like this every year on the Gulf Coast and it never takes a month to restore power. (LIPA is correct in requiring all homeowners who got flooded to get an electrical inspection.) Finally, pay attention to the lady in the last paragraph. It explains what happened last Tuesday.

What's the problem OP? Is this lady to supposed to repair her own electrical lines and turn on her electricity? Of course this is America and someone should be there to help her! NO ONE should go without power for this long! It's 2012 for Pete's sake! And I don't give a rat's about your experience on the gulf!

Where is the outcries against Obozo? He's your guy NY-NJ. Why aren't you dumping on him for this mess like you did Bush? If it wasn't for the storms which no one has control over, I'd say, " you people created this nightmare of a government. You get what you pay for just like the idiots in CA"

It's not just power, they have damaged homes and some no homes. Sewage and garbage will be a nightmare. They are afraid to leave because of looting.

#1, we all have done without power for far longer than 11 days. Yeah it rough but this is what you get for having unions. Our electric co-op sent crews to help. We had a devastating ice storm a few years back, our electric lines sustained a lot of damage. They got the power it took them weeks, but they are now, this year, putting in new poles and running new lines. We never heard a thing from Obama nor any federal agency. It was cold, the middle of winter, we as communities helped each other, oh it took a year and a half to pick up the debris from the downed trees, since the summer drought and the still damaged trees we are still having effects of that ice storm.

The truth is that thousands of transformers were destroyed, and there isn't the stock to replace them all. Government efficiency standards have driven many smaller manufacturers out of business, leading to a consolidation of manufacturers who, operating near capacity already, can't possibly absorb the additional demand. It's going to take weeks. Many weeks.

Now only the conscience of the utility workers rewards them for restoring power. The crews are getting unlimited overtime and their jobs are secure. Why kill the Golden Goose?
And for the utilities and suppliers, why restart or repair any marginal equipment? The money is coming in, replace anything and everything you can with brand new hardware.
The good job done by most is to their credit. But unlimited funding from Washington and Albany changes everything it touches.

I find it ironic that NJ and NY went overwhelmingly for Obama. God forgive me but this is what they get from trusting Obama or anything out of his mouth. Some people just don't get it the first, second or third time. Maybe they'll get it now. Too little too late for them. Reality bites.

Non-union Electricians came from all around the conservative states and attempted to help these leftist whiners, and their own electric and government unions called the other electricians Scabs, spit on them and drove them away. I know this first hand. This did happen. They are on their own now, because nobody with half a brain is going to spend their time, money or good will to go back up there. You get what you vote for.

Sounds like there was no gameplan for a wide-spread storm. Couldn't they call-in electrical repair people from all across the country? Probably no - due to union work rules - and the people suffer.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

Fox News chief Roger Ailes has sent a memo to his subordinates at the leading cable news network. He sent this memo to his staff today in connection with the federal investigation into an alleged leak to Fox News reporter James Rosen, a story that the Washington Post’s Ann E. For all those who wonder what it is about Ailes that endears his people to him — and that makes him such a good interviewee for any media reporter lucky enough to get an audience

On Wednesday, Drummer Lee Rigby of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, a man who had served Queen and country honorably in the hell of Helmand Province in Afghanistan, emerged from his barracks on Wellington Street, named after the Duke thereof, in southeast London. Minutes later, he was hacked to death in broad daylight and in full view of onlookers by two men with machetes who crowed "Allahu Akbar!" as they dumped his carcass in the middle of the street like so much roadkill. As grotesque as this act of savagery was, the aftermath was even more unsettling
