For the chairman and chief executive of Murray Energy, an Ohio-based coal company, the reelection of President Obama was no cause for celebration. It was a time for prayer – and layoffs. Robert E. Murray read a prayer to a group of company staff members on the day after the election, lamenting the direction of the country and asking: “Lord, please forgive me and anyone with me in Murray Energy Corp. for the decisions that we are now forced to make to preserve the very existence of any of the enterprises that you have helped us build.” On Wednesday
Comments: I'm sure many more layoffs are on the way.
The jump off the economic cliff won't take long now. Just hold on tight, and be ready to do what needs to be done afterward. The government didn't built business, and it won't be able to rebuild. We will do that.
People on other sites are making fun of this situation. Sadly, at some point, they too may face unemployment forced on their employer due to Government mandates. I doubt that will be funny to them then. The layoffs announced recently are only the beginning of what will become a torrent. So many uninformed Americans not realizing how current Government policy is effecting businesses of all sizes.
And yet the liberals only see this man as hateful, ignorant, misinformed, racist, etc. Their short sightedness is astounding but fueled by arrogance and many times youthful ignorance. They do have all the answers, right?
In the end, it doesn't matter what you liberals think or say. You are impotent against economic realities and no amount of rage on your part will make that change. No amount of name calling or rejoicing in your own superiority of "compassion" will do a damn thing. It's his company and he, like millions of other small business owners, can shutter the doors if he likes. The jobs will disappear.
You liberals make nothing, earn nothing, produce nothing. The "maker" jobs will not come back no matter what Obama does, what imaginary regulations you think he should institute, or threats he makes to companies just trying to survive and avoid the massive amount of regulation and taxation Obama and his kind in DC will institute. They always have the option of leaving or shutting their doors. What options do your hordes of takers have, you know the ones relying on you liberals to provide home, food, clothes, education, and healthcare, everything? If you don't give them what they want, it's you they will devour. You have made a pact with a beast that in the end will eat you alive.
Eventually you will run out of everyone else's money and then what will you do?
#17 - agree. That is why our investment club had several planning meetings with tax professionals over the last year. The intent is to maximize tax avoidance strategies. Keep taxes as low as possible, give only directly to your church and specific charities, generally strive to starve the federal beast.
Yes these are things all of us should do. But most do not.
Not only lots of unemployed but 100+ million voters so POed that even charitable organizations will suffer. After all, the dems did promise that all who need will get if you vote for the redistribution king & queen. Now the COs will need to go to his majesty for funding.
The electricity prices at this years annual auction for 2015 has most of the country paying about $150 per megawatt - up from about $16 this year. Northern Ohio is going to be hit at $357 per megawatt. These rates make air conditioning impractical unless you can handle $1000 per month electric bills. As the windmill turns.
it's cool with obamaphone folks...they don't wanna work and don't wanna contribute to the greater good of the nation. Prez Cool will take care of 'em. Yep, I am bitter, please dear Lord, help me to move on...
President Obama’s job approval among American voters has dropped to negative territory with just 38 percent voicing their approval versus the 58 who says they disapprove, according to a national poll released Tuesday by the independent Quinnipiac University. That is one percent less than the 39% who said they approved of him in last month’s poll. The majority of the 2,692 registered voters the University in early December said that the president is not honest and trustworthy. When asked, “Do you approve or disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling his job as President?,” respondents gave Obama lackluster ratings
There´s knowing what you have to do and then there´s actually doing it. And the results of a new survey suggest the health-care reform law may be falling short on both accounts among the uninsured—the group Obamacare is designed to help the most. The findings of the survey by the Transamerica Center for Health Studies suggest that Obamacare´s goal of providing affordable health insurance to millions of Americans faces widespread inertia. Although more of the survey´s respondents knew about components of the law compared with a prior survey over the summer, not many of those polled are enrolling for coverage
A mild snow dusted New York City this morning, transforming ordinarily grumpy commuters into grumpy commuters who were also cold and wet. And while frigid winter weather continues to batter most corners of the country, it´s still a distant cry from just-in temperature readings from Eastern Antarctica, which recently experienced the coldest day in recorded history. Just how cold is cold? According to new NASA satellite data, the region hit a bone-chilling -135.7 degrees Fahrenheit (-93.2 degrees Celsius) back in August 2010, shattering the previous world record set at the Russian research station in Vostok, Antarctica, on July 21, 1983
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. -- The victim of a vicious knockout attack in New Jersey is speaking out for the first time. He was cold-cocked, and hit not just with a fist, but with a glove with hard plastic knuckles. Two of the four attackers are still on the run. "All of a sudden, I was trying to watch my back and these two came around front and punches my face," the victim said. The 36-year-old restaurant worker does not want his name or face on television, and who could blame him? He still has headaches from a concussion and six
Sears stock plummeted Wednesday as news came out that Edward Lampert, its stubborn billionaire chairman and CEO, had to surrender majority control of the 120-year-old big box retailer when investors in Lampert’s hedge fund pulled money out. With no end in sight for Lampert’s quixotic turnaround efforts, it’s time to question whether there’s any way to save Sears as long as he remains in charge. (Snip) Lampert began at Sears with the ill-fated $12 billion merger with Kmart in 2005. Sales have declined for 27 straight quarters and the company’s stock is down over 70% from its high in 2007.
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has no system in place to prevent fraud when individuals apply for tax credits under Obamacare, according to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). The IG said in an audit released Tuesday that the IRS has no plan to manage, monitor, or mitigate fraud risk when processing premium tax credits available under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). “The ACA Program has not yet completed a fraud mitigation strategy,” the audit found. “It is important for the IRS to thoroughly consider fraud threats and risks that could impact new ACA systems.” Politico reports: The
Around 100,000 Americans successfully signed up for health insurance in November through the troubled federal online marketplace, HealthCare.gov, a person familiar with the preliminary data confirmed to ABC News. The figure reflects a surge in enrollment as software and hardware fixes to the site were made over the course of the month. In October, only 26,000 people could successfully enroll in Obamacare plans, according to the Department of Health and Human Services. "We´ve been working 24/7 to make improvements, and more consumers are successfully shopping online and enrolling in a health plan each week," Health and Human Services Secretary
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Barack Obama has arrived in South Africa to lead the American delegation at a memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg. But his party is reportedly stuck in traffic and he is said to have arrived late at the stadium for the ceremony. [Snip] But Mr Clinton, Mr Carter and his wife Rosalynn have all traveled separately to the event. According to reports, Mr Obama and his delegation are stuck in a lines of traffic caused by tens of thousands of people making their way to the event. Mr Obama is among the foreign leaders who
