Record 70.4 Million Enrolled
in Medicaid in 2011: 1 Out
of Every 5 Americans

A record 70.4 million people were enrolled in the Medicaid health care program for the poor in fiscal year 2011, according to government figures provided to CNSNews.com. That figure equals about 22 percent of the population, which means there was one person on Medicaid for every 5 Americans in 2011. The record number of Medicaid enrollees in 2011 – the earliest year for which figures are available – is a count of all persons enrolled in Medicaid for any part of that year, providing the fullest and most accurate count of the size of the entitlement program.

Comments:
How in the world do we stop this when we now have another reign of terror under 0bama.

Not only has there been a recession, but more and more employers are either no longer offering health insurance or keeping their hourly workers at less than 30 hours per week so they don't have to cover them for health insurance.

Is it really better to cut the Medicaid roles and force the hospital emergency rooms to be the medical provider of last resort for these citizens?

The people who don't understand this tend to have insurance through their employers, or Medicare, and presume everyone else has similar sources of coverage. That isn't the case. And private insurance won't touch anyone with a pre-existing condition.

I don't know what we're going to do. In the 20 years hubby and I have been married (and 8 kids later) we've always, always had health insurance. We have two children with TI (or auto-immune diabetes) who are both on insulin pumps, a CGM (continuous glucose monitoring system) and glucose meters. We've seen our premiums rise and our coverage drop since Obamacare was made law. My husband just got notice that his employer (GM Financial of all people!) are forcing everyone into a HRA instead of traditional healthcare with a $5000 deductible (no co-pays, this comes strictly out of your pocket first) and 30% out of pocket for prescriptions. Well, my boys go through 8 vials of insulin a month on a pump and at $110 a vial that's $300 out of pocket a month we're facing JUST for their insulin! I'm so mad and sick over this because what do we do? Go backwards in their care to cut costs?

I used to think the 'ultimate' financial collapse would occur around the year 2030. I now think it will happen by 2020. And Medicaid will be just one small part of the reason.

Reply 5 - Posted by: ColonialAmerican1623, 11/9/2012 1:01:11 PM     (No. 9002840)

You have to be dead broke, sick and uninsured to qualify for Medicaid in most instances, unless you are a welfare queen.
Those with disabled children have to really fight for care.

Companies like Wally World are assuring their employees go on Medicaid.

HRAs and high deductible plans are ok for someone that can pay their own medical bills and should not be offered to employees. Most people do not have $5000 in medical bills a year. If you do, you are now self pay.

The truth here is we are being lead to universal health care. It is up to us to tell Congress if Zippycare is good enough for us, it's good enough for them since we are paying.

Then why is Obamacare necessary ? You want to go for 2 out of 5 and then have the remaining 60% pay for the 40% on the program. Frankly the numbers do not add up.

I´m so sorry #3. Having an adult child with a long standing chronic and expensive illness, I really feel for you. Hoping a viable solution presents itself for you. You are in our prayers.
Notice they don´t mention how many NON citizens are on Medicaid, and I bet there are millions of them....many illegal.

Obama nominates Nuland for

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

America´s 100 million cable and satellite subscribers are forced to pay ever-higher bills for a growing number of channels they do not watch. The American people are being ripped off. Meanwhile, services such as iTunes and Netflix have led a revolution in how consumers purchase and experience music and video entertainment. They have upended entire industries to allow consumers to buy digital content where they want, when they want. Amid all this change, two entrenched interests — the cable television and video programming industries — have teamed up to use federal regulations to stack the deck against consumers.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama is a little uneasy with the way journalists have been dragged into the Justice Department’s aggressive pursuit of national security leak investigations. In fact, he has ordered Attorney General Eric Holder to conduct a 45-day review of the department’s guidelines on the issue. That bit of news was buried in the middle of the president’s hourlong speech today at National Defense University. “Journalists should not be at legal risk for doing their jobs,” President Obama said. “Our focus must be on those who break the law.” And then the news: “I have raised these issues with

Anthony Weiner’s nascent mayoral campaign is off to a rough start. Weiner made his candidacy for mayor of New York official in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, and since then there’s no indication that the process is going particularly well. The former rising star in the Democratic Party can’t shake the scandal that forced him to resign from Congress, and he may be throwing fuel on the fire. Asked this morning whether there was another shoe to drop in the sextweeting scandal that ousted him, Weiner admitted, Well, yeah.

White House press secretary Jay Carney could only explain his problems on Wednesday by telling reporters, "[T]here are a lot of you, and you´re good at your jobs and you´re smart." As easy as it might be for Carney to lob such insincere praise at former journalistic colleagues, such posterior osculations must be embarrassing for a White House so accustomed to having the press in its back pocket. Carney´s job has become more difficult in the past two weeks. Where his explanations were accepted at face value in the past, he is now met with deep skepticism. Suddenly, the

WASHINGTON – First she refused to testify. Now Lois Lerner, the IRS official at the center of the agency scandal, is refusing to resign, according to a top Republican senator. Sources confirmed to Fox News earlier Thursday that Lerner, the head of the IRS division that oversaw the unit targeting conservative groups, had been placed on administrative leave, with pay. But Sen. Charles Grassley, R-Iowa, claimed she was only put in that status after refusing to step down. He said the commissioner was in his right to demand her resignation, and said taxpayers

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Is the worm turning against Barack Obama? After four-plus years of being given the benefit of the doubt by the bulk of the US media, the President now suddenly feels more vulnerable. Today both the New York Times and the Washington Post have run prominent and angry editorials and columns slamming the administration for its attempt to criminalise a Fox News reporter James Rosen for working a State Department source to obtain a story. The "Rosen Affair"--as it is now known--is poisoning the well in Washington at an alarming rate for Mr Obama, with an indignant White House press corps
