Obama lies low as calls
for fiscal action grow

President Obama’s first full day in Washington after his re-election was one of his least visible in memory, even as cries intensified on Capitol Hill for action to deal with the government’s looming fiscal disaster. After a marathon campaign, Mr. Obama took his time getting back to governing Thursday, with only one event on his schedule — a routine national security briefing in the Oval Office in late morning. Neither the president nor his chief spokesman, Jay Carney, who took the day off from his usual briefing with the White House press corps, appeared in public all day.

I'm sure glad that great, strong leader 0bama was re-elected. s/o The economy is ready to head off the cliff and where is he?? Resting from all his campaigning?? If we had a real leader he would be meeting with all the leaders of the Congress to solve these problems. Not 0bama. And to think we have to relive four more years of this.

The calls can come in at 30 AM or 30 PM, it doesn't matter.

The limp wristed Republicans in the house will be rolled again. Boner s/p, has already indicated a willingness to cave.

The Magic Mullato needs republicans in the house to help him stop the coming fiscal calamity.

I say let's go over the fiscal cliff and let the democraps own the coming Depression.

Does he want to improve the circumstances of Americans or the economy?

If not it seems to his advantage to proceed as he has. For O it has worked wonderfully.

Sure we will hit the fiscal cliff but why would he care? The more chaos the more power he gains. Limos will still bring show biz to his WH dinners. He can play golf when he wishes.

With the nation is turmoil he can just order government employees to do whatever he wishes. They will obey. Nearly all the media will endorse his every word.

The worse it gets the more he will be praised. He will just continue to blame any groups he dislikes at the moment.

Do the writers really believe that Obama is worried about the country's looming fiscal disaster? He brought it about.

Ted Cruz weighed in on the Cliven Bundy situation with Texas radio host Chad Hasty Tuesday, and he called the standoff between Bundy supporters (some armed) and federal agents a tragic situation, but one that was the “culmination” of how President Obama has been pushing for a bigger and more intrusive federal government. Cruz said that since Obama took over, “we have seen our liberty under assault” from a government “hell-bent on expanding its authority over every aspect of our lives.” He went after Obama for eroding the nation’s constitutional liberties and not understanding the point of the federal government is to

In a case about a pregnant woman who used cocaine and endangered her unborn child, the Alabama Supreme Court affirmed (8-1) that the word “child” includes “an unborn child,” and that the law therefore “furthers the State’s interest in protecting the life of children from the earliest stages of their development.” In his concurring opinion, Alabama Chief Justice Roy S. Moore wrote that “an unborn child has an inalienable right to life from its earliest stages of development,” and added, “I write separately to emphasize that the inalienable right to life is a gift of God that civil government must secure

Rep. Sam Johnson (R-Texas) on Wednesday said he plans to introduce a bill to prevent Internal Revenue Service employees who are delinquent on their taxes from receiving bonuses. A report this week from the Treasury Department inspector general for tax administration found that the IRS had given more than $2.8 million in bonuses and other rewards to workers who had been cited for various types of misconduct, including a failure to pay their taxes. A Johnson aide said the congressman’s bill would prohibit the IRS from giving bonuses to employees who owe back taxes that are not caused by willful

Attorney General Eric Holder on Wednesday called Justice Sonia Sotomayor’s dissent in the Supreme Court’s latest affirmative action ruling “courageous.” At an event on diversity within the Justice Department, Holder said it’s tempting to think the struggle to overcome discrimination has ended when people like him or President Obama have reached the nation’s highest ranks. But, he said, the fight for equal rights is not over. "[This] great country still has a ways to go before our founding promise of equal justice and equal opportunity is fully realized,” he said. Holder quoted Sotomayor in the dissent she filed a day

Former Speaker of the House Denny Hastert, now a K Street lobbyist, is gathering with several Chicago Republicans for a public event aimed at yet again building support in Washington for amnesty, Roll Call reports. Hastert, now a lobbyist for Dickstein Shapiro, has been pushing comprehensive immigration reform for some time. In a February Politico op-ed, he endorsed the House GOP leadership immigration “principles” writing of illegal aliens that “we should provide them with a path to citizenship.” Hastert is headlining an Illinois Business Immigration Coalition (IBIC) conference at Chicago’s prestigious Chicago Club on Tuesday. IBIC is billing the event as a

So long, Ohio. According to a federal judge Monday in Henry v. Himes, the U.S. Constitution now requires that the laws of one state automatically supersede those of Ohio, whether or not Ohio approves. The circumstances surround same-sex marriage, though the precise legal issue is one that has been flying below the radar for some time – the recognition by one state of another state’s same-sex marriage. In the case, several same-sex couples with marriage licenses from California, Massachusetts, and New York sought recognition of their relationships in their home state of Ohio, where marriage is defined as between only one

Americans take electricity for granted. It powers our lights, our computers, our offices, and our industries. But misguided environmental policies are eroding the reliability of our power system. Last winter, bitterly cold weather placed massive stress on the US electrical system ? and the system almost broke. On January 7 in the midst of the polar vortex, PJM Interconnection, the Regional Transmission Organization serving the heart of America from New Jersey to Illinois, experienced a new all-time peak winter load of almost 142,000 megawatts. Eight of the top ten of PJM’s all-time winter peaks occurred in January 2014. Heroic efforts by grid

Public Trust: Sixty-one percent polled say President Obama lies "some of the time" or "most of the time" on matters of national importance. Americans have to ask: Why do we let him get away with it? It´s no surprise that a Fox News poll of 1,012 registered voters last week found immense distrust of a president whose main domestic initiative was based on a lie. The shock is that the same poll found his disapproval level down to its lowest since last fall. Asked, "How often do you think Barack Obama lies to the country on important matters?" 37% replied "most of

The Obama administration is poised to entertain a flood of new clemency applications from thousands of federal prisoners who were given harsh sentences under mandatory-minimum laws following drug convictions, Attorney General Eric Holder said Monday. Holder said in a short videotaped statement that he wants to shrink the federal prison population by a modest amount while ensuring ´that those who have paid their debts have a chance to become productive citizens.´ At the center of the move is a set of old sentencing rules that punished crack-cocaine offenders with more time behind bars than users or traffickers of powder cocaine.

Former Sen. Bob Dole (R-Kan.) said a number of junior GOP senators considering a presidential run in 2016 do not yet have the experience — specifically naming Rand Paul (Ky.), Marco Rubio (Fla.) and Ted Cruz (Texas). The former 1996 GOP presidential candidate sounded particularly skeptical of Cruz in an interview this week with The Wichita Eagle. "A number of the younger members, first-termers like Rand Paul, Rubio and that extreme-right-wing guy, Ted Cruz — all running for president now. I don´t think they´ve got enough experience yet," Dole said. The 90-year-old former senator said, however, his main concern about 2016 is living

If Jeb reaches for the nomination, there will be a titanic battle between the party establishment and the Tea Party. Steve Schmidt, McCain’s strategist in 2008, insists that in the end Republicans usually settle on the most electable candidate. To get by, this Bush may be forced to trim his positions, although the cautionary tale of Romney suggests that he would have to tack artfully and carefully for the sake of the general election. Certainly he will have the resources to outlast, discredit, and disqualify his rivals.

Washington - Michelle Obama said "splurging is the key to life" if you regularly eat right and stay active. Her biggest guilty pleasure: French fries. "How would you appreciate vegetables if you never had chocolate?" she asked. "You couldn´t live without a little chocolate, a little French fries." The first lady took questions from children reporters Monday after appearing at the White House Easter Egg Roll. She told the children that if they eat right the majority of the time, then a splurge or snack is not going to hurt them. "I still splurge when I can, but that's why I try to exercise almost every day," she said.

There’s a pattern of falsifying statistics throughout the entire Census Bureau. And anyone who attempts to blow the whistle on the fraud is either retaliated against or ignored, according to two new sources who have experienced the process firsthand. As I’ve been writing for more than six months, the Census Bureau office in Philadelphia uncovered a case of fraud in 2010, did nothing about it and allowed the practice to continue. In that instance, a data collector named Julius Buckmon was faking reports that went into the nation’s all-important jobless tally and consumer-inflation survey. Because the Census Bureau’s surveys are scientific — meaning
