| President Obama’s first full day in Washington after his re-election was one of his least visible in memory, even as cries intensified on Capitol Hill for action to deal with the government’s looming fiscal disaster. After a marathon campaign, Mr. Obama took his time getting back to governing Thursday, with only one event on his schedule — a routine national security briefing in the Oval Office in late morning. Neither the president nor his chief spokesman, Jay Carney, who took the day off from his usual briefing with the White House press corps, appeared in public all day.

I'm sure glad that great, strong leader 0bama was re-elected. s/o The economy is ready to head off the cliff and where is he?? Resting from all his campaigning?? If we had a real leader he would be meeting with all the leaders of the Congress to solve these problems. Not 0bama. And to think we have to relive four more years of this.

Does he want to improve the circumstances of Americans or the economy?
If not it seems to his advantage to proceed as he has. For O it has worked wonderfully.
Sure we will hit the fiscal cliff but why would he care? The more chaos the more power he gains. Limos will still bring show biz to his WH dinners. He can play golf when he wishes.
With the nation is turmoil he can just order government employees to do whatever he wishes. They will obey. Nearly all the media will endorse his every word.
The worse it gets the more he will be praised. He will just continue to blame any groups he dislikes at the moment.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says it wants as many as 20 percent of its workers to "telework," use an "alternative work schedule," or do both, in order to "reduce green house gas emissions," decrease "employee stress," and give these government workers more time for "planning and preparing healthy meals." So says one of the HHS "performance measures" detailed in an appendix to the department´s latest strategic plan. HHS´s performance measure "4.D.05" says: "Increase the percent employees on telework or on Alternative Work Schedule." Telework means working from home via phone and computer.

Bloodletting, in the form of firings, dismissals, resignation, and expulsions, is a tribal rite in political Washington. It is most often used by the powerful on anyone less powerful as a symbolic sacrifice. Steven Miller, the now former acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, is the latest victim of ritual sacrifice. This week the Obama White House demanded his resignation to demonstrate the president’s “anger” at news that the IRS targeted conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status for added review and slow approval. STANDING BEFORE reporters Thursday, President Obama declined an invitation to compare the recent scandals weighing down his administration with those that forced President Nixon to resign in 1974. So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. Nixon, in a series of crimes that collectively came to be known as Watergate, directed from the White House and Justice Department a concerted campaign against those he perceived as political enemies, in the process subverting the FBI, the IRS, other government agencies and the electoral process to his nefarious purposes.
