| Iran fired on an unarmed U.S. drone last week as it was hovering in international airspace, the Pentagon announced Thursday. Spokesman George Little said the incident occurred Nov. 1 at 4:50 a.m. ET. He said the unarmed, unmanned drone was conducting "routine surveillance" over the Persian Gulf when it was "intercepted" by Iran. He said the MQ1 Predator drone, which was not hit, was not in Iranian airspace. (Snip) Little stressed that the drone was flying 16 nautical miles off the coast of Kuwait in international waters, and never entered the 12-mile limit that would constitute Iranian territory.

Comments: The only reason we are hearing about this now is that the news broke and the Pentagon was forced to go public. Damage control before Obama's election.

Nice timing on hearing about this. Everything to protect the election of the Won. Nothing in the MSM (only Drudge) about Russians nuclear subs off the east coast a few weeks ago or in the Gulf of Mexico this spring. I hope all of the idiots that voted for Obama are happy.

I wonder when Obama will hold his next press conference and I wonder if anyone who is called on will ask about this.
Wonder how Jay Carney spins this. "Let's not jump to conclusions. I don't want to comment while we are conducting an investigation. It appears our drone was flying in the path the missle they launched. That's all we can say at this time. No one wants to get to the bottom of this more than the president. He finds it insulting that anyone would politicize this or question his judgement."

In my new post-election frame of mind, I now see the timing of this information as irrelevant. Obama voters would not have cared, even if the news had come out prior to the election.
Dem voters don't care if you are a Dem and:
have ethics violations;
have planned to sell out your country to the Russians;
have consorted with terrorists from the 1970's;
have been indicted, like the state senator in Illinois (in another posting today);
have lied about your native American background to get a plumb job gaming the diversity system;
have committed plagarism and are just plan crazy besides;
are under care in an institution (likely for drug problems);
have lied under oath about your adulterous habits;
have geared federal stimulous money to relatives;
and on and on.
Dems don't care. Power is the end.

A Predator flying at a sizzling 100mph or so over the Persian Gulf is unlikely to be carrying anything but a camera.
Predators can of course equiped to fire Hellfire air-to-ground missiles, but not all are. I am not aware that they have ever yet been set up to carry Sidewinders. Could probably be done. Then we'd call it a UCAV - unmanned Combat aerial vehicle. Much fancier UCAVs are being developed.

Among the criteria by which the Internal Revenue Service selected groups in for its political targeting program in 2012 was "educating on the constitution and bill of rights" (lowercase in original), according to the Inspector General´s Report. Lois Lerner, who directs the office at the center of that effort, has received her own education in the Constitution.(Snip)Josh Marshall, proprietor of TalkingPointsMemo.com, concedes that Lerner "has every right" to invoke the Fifth Amendment "and may be wise to do so. But that´s a decision that simply is not consistent with her remaining in her job.

CINCINNATI, OH - The claim that the ongoing IRS scandal is limited to low level employees is falling apart. The six Cincinnati workers we have identified, who sent scrutinizing letters to conservative groups with words including "patriot, liberty, tea party or 9-12" in their names are Mitchel Steele, Carly Young, Joseph Herr, Stephen Seok, Liz Hofacre and a woman identified only as Ms. Richards. (Snip) Because all six of our IRS workers have different individual and territory managers, Cindy Thomas is one manager they all have common.

We can now officially call the Obama administration besieged. One of President Obama´s underlings is set to plead her Fifth Amendment Right against self-incrimination in the burgeoning IRS scandal. The Los Angeles Times broke the story: Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won´t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening - or why she didn´t disclose it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide.There are a lot of numbers out there.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy.
