Driving sleet and high winds of up to 50 mph today are compounding Long Island's existing misery in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties. All the way in Montauk, desperate owners of oceanfront motels pushed to the brink by Sandy frantically tried to shore up their teetering structures before today's storm. Sand bags packed the back ends of places like the Royal Atlantic where staffers tried to avoid getting knocked out completely by today's Nor-easter. In Sagaponack, Billy Joel's efforts to shore up his Gibson Lane property looked to be faltering as the ocean began to strip away
Hey you NY/NJ voters...your "man" obama is no doubt eating Kobe steak tonight while you're freezing. Good! Christie probably at Dunkin Donuts. Good! Either way, you all who voted for obama in droves deserve what you get. You will receive not one dime donation from me. other than what obama takes out of my pocket day after day after day without my permission.

Glad other posters have my sentiment. People dumb enough to repeatedly vote dems in year in and year old don't deserve any better than to be left out in the cold. They were too stupid to protect their coastline. Too stupid to prepare for a hurricane much less get out of the way. Then NJ ran off the utility workers and NY pelted them with eggs.
It's obvious who's DNA had what it took to go west, fight the weather, snakes, coyotes and Indians. Not the limp lizard yellow belly Yankees.
I'd help but I'm not unionized. Also, liberals are so far superior to this conservative that it would be an insult if I did offer.//I do have a two year supply of freeze-dried food, multiple water purifiers, first aid supplies, etc. etc. If any of you would like to try and take my family's stuff, I also have a full weapons locker, reserves of ammunition, and heavily armed neighbors who are also conservative.//Happy Holidays to All!
I was going to send money to the relief and Red Cross efforts, then I realized, you know what, my 1969 AMX really does need those factory seat covers and I have been so putting off getting the rally rims for the car. I do want to get it done in time for the big AMC meet here in a few months. So much to do.....
Plus if you add in the vintage Heywood-Wakefield bookcases that my wife just had to have this month, well, I just couldn't break her heart and say no!
Anyways, the liberals out there found time to vote in their god again, I am sure he and Chuckie Schumer have it all handled and don't need my dollars.
When the rains out here in California produce the next big mudslides in liberal Malibu, I'll be out there helping by, you know, documenting the whole thing for my enjoyment from the comfort of my BMW with my new high definition video camera. I am sure Michael Moore has enough money to put his entertainment buddies up in nice hotels.
#17, These types of storms are called Nor'Easters because the winds come from the North East. The storm has a counter-clockwise rotation and the center goes along the coast or to the east. The warm southern air is full of moisture, and mixes with the cold air sucked down from the north creating snow, ice, etc.
It was interesting, last week FEMA was surveying one of the buildings on my campus that has been vacated by my company as we "grew" from close to 10,000 employees in 2000 to 2,500 now. It is a nice building but the self-reliant will be back to normal before FEMA moves in.
People with skin in the game will do what they need to in order to get back to normal the best they can. Those that have no skin in the game will sit back and complain they don't have enough help because someone else has more.
NASA’s steady reconnaissance of Mars with the Curiosity rover has produced another major discovery: evidence of an ancient lake — with water that could plausibly be described as drinkable — that was part of a long-standing, wet environment that could have supported simple forms of life. Scientists have known that the young Mars was more Earthlike than the desert planet we see today, but this is the best evidence yet that Mars had swimming holes that stuck around for thousands or perhaps millions of years. (It would have been very chilly — bring a wet suit.) The findings were being
JOHANNESBURG — President Obama, his predecessor, and the woman who might be his successor crossed the Atlantic together Monday in an example of extended bipartisan togetherness to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela at a memorial service Tuesday. For more than 16 hours, Mr. Obama hosted former President George W. Bush and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton aboard Air Force One — part of a global pilgrimage that is expected to bring as many as 100 world leaders to South Africa. (Snip) On board the presidential aircraft as it flew to South Africa, White House aides said Mr. Obama
Today Politico´s Dylan Byers got tough on MSNBC with two posts calling into question the channel´s journalistic credibility. Byers started the day by going after MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry for something she said over the weekend. Harris-Perry claimed Sunday that the term Obamacare was an attempt by white people to denigrate a black President. Byers pointed out that "Hillarycare" and "Reaganomics" seem like similar appellations and asked, in light of these, how "Obamacare" could be implicitly racist while the other terms are not. It´s not clear whether Harris-Perry responded to Byers´ challenge privately but she did not tweet (or anything
World leaders have gathered in Johannesburg to pay tribute to Nelson Mandela at a memorial service for the former president of South Africa, five days after he died at the age of 95. Barack Obama was pictured arriving after a 17-hour flight from Washington on board Air Force One, during which he rode with his wife Michelle, former President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, and Hillary Clinton. He has been given a prominent role in the memorial service for former South African president Nelson Mandela - but may face awkward moments if he comes face to face with controversial leaders
Jim Murray, an English writer and one of the world’s top whiskey critics, believes Scottish malt is no match for American whiskey. “Generally speaking, bourbon … has overtaken Scotch,” he said, according to the Telegraph. Mr. Murray, who wrote “Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible,” argues that Scotland’s decrease in quality whiskey is due to the use of sulphur candles to sanitize some barrels that have been used to age sherry, giving it a “bitter finish.” Bourbon, however, is aged in virgin oak casks, which do not require sulphur treatment, the Telegraph said. “The best whiskey is coming not from Scotland any
Brothers Tryon, 19, and Tyshaune Kincade, 18, were formally charged Monday in the shooting death of Sergent First Class Jim Vester, 32, after arranging to sell the 12-year military veteran an iPad on Wednesday. According to phone records released by the police, the Indianapolis father wanted to buy an iPad from the brothers as a Christmas present for his parents based off of their Craigslist ad. At 3:05pm, Vester texted: ´Can I get your address´. At 3:14pm, the suspects texted him to meet at 920 Wyckford Dr. Vester arrived at the address at 3:49pm and texted: ´are you here?´ and the
Andrea Elliott, in her NY Times article "Invisible Child," articulates the disheartening existence of a family living on the meager support of government welfare. She invites her readers to look through the eyes of Dasani, the family´s 11-year-old girl. The family has a complex relationship with the welfare programs that both keep them afloat and keep their situation hopeless. Liberals advocate that welfare programs are designed to help the least fortunate and that they demonstrate a society’s compassion. However, sometimes too much compassion by the state can devolve into what recovering drug addicts would call "enabling." Moreover, the "compassionate environment"
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has announced a new five-year strategic plan to improve safety for elderly drivers and passengers. Although they are statistically among the safest on the road, the number of older drivers is increasing dramatically — and with it, that group´s numbers of injuries and deaths. Since 2003, the population of older adults, defined as age 65 and older, has increased by 20% and the number of licensed older drivers increased by 21% to 35 million in 2012, according to NHTSA. Last year, NHTSA reported that 5,560 people older than 65 died and 214,000 were injured
A veteran Washington adviser who has worked for four Presidents on both sides of the political aisle said that the stunning Government Accountability Report report that found President Barack Obama has not had a one-on-one meeting with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius since the passage of Obamacare over three years ago is an indictment of the entire White House operation and shows that the Obama administration has bordered on "malfeasance." "I have no doubt the White House is right, that Secretary Sebelius was in several group meetings with the president about health care," Gergen caveated, "but the whole
President Barack Obama’s Facebook page on Saturday posted a message honoring the dead from Pearl Harbor—accompanied by a picture of Obama descending the stairs next to the Pearl Harbor Memorial. The picture barely fits the name of the Arizona Memorial so it can frame Obama in the foreground. The post´s statement reads: Today, with solemn pride and reverence, let us remember those who fought and died at Pearl Harbor, acknowledge everyone who carried their legacy forward, and reaffirm our commitment to upholding the ideals for which they served. President Obama The Obama Administration´s current shipbuilding plan shrinks the size of
Barack Obama did not tell the whole story this autumn when he tried to make the case that Bashar al-Assad was responsible for the chemical weapons attack near Damascus on 21 August. In some instances, he omitted important intelligence, and in others he presented assumptions as facts. Most significant, he failed to acknowledge something known to the US intelligence community: that the Syrian army is not the only party in the country’s civil war with access to sarin, the nerve agent that a UN study concluded – without assessing responsibility – had been used in the rocket attack. In the months before the attack,
Dr. Ezekiel Emanuel, the hapless, goalpost-shifting so-called "architect" of Obamacare, told Fox News´ Chris Wallace on Fox News Sunday that President Barack Obama´s promise "if you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor" was absolutely true--with one important caveat: if you like your doctor, "you can pay for it." Wallace grilled Dr. Emanuel, challenging his false claims that California´s enrollment was keeping pace with the percentage of the young population necessary to keep the system afloat, and pointing out that the president´s promise on doctors would collapse once people lost their insurance or their
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
