Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Wednesday that he will try to push through a change to Senate rules that would limit the GOP’s ability to filibuster bills. Speaking in the wake of Tuesday’s election, which boosted Senate Democrats’ numbers slightly, Mr. Reid said he won’t end filibusters altogether but that the rules need to change so that the minority party cannot use the legislative blocking tool as often. “I think that the rules have been abused and that we’re going to work to change them,” he told reporters. “Were not going to do away with the filibuster but we’re going to make the Senate

He just said that the two sides have to work together and now this. So it is work together so that the democrats get their way. Hate this man.

I really don't see why republicans just don't walk out of the house and senate and let the dems just have free reign. Every man for himself. They get whatever they want anyway.

~~Sen.-elect Angus King, an independent who won Maine’s open Senate seat, also took aim at filibusters during his campaign, saying the 60-vote threshold for legislation to see Senate action is not part of the Constitution.~~

It'll happen.

Sadly, we have lost the country. Time for a 2nd American Revolution or to find another country that wants freedom-loving citizens.

Let's all hope and pray that the GOP senators who are there now don't bow to this outrageous pressure and stand firm to stop Reid and Obama from doing further damage to the nation.

Told ya'. The pubs were afraid to limit debate when they were in the majority because they were worried the Dems might do it. How'd that work out, morons? This is actually a good thing. Time for the majority party to have full accountability and responsibility for what it does.

I'm with #7. This great experiment seems to be ending. Any Central/South America countries want a shot? I can promise about 175 years of prosperity, until the parasites show up.

#9 exactly, the floodgates will now open with nothing to hold them back. God help us when they start looking at the SCOTUS and the need to limit debate on those appointments.

The great experiment didn't last 100 years. We seem to forget that we once had a revolution in the mid 1800s. Of course it was because the constitution was flawed and unworkable so blood and brute force was used to hold this collection together. It is long overdue to have another go at a revolution.

As much of a slimeball this man is, Reid is a fighter for his party.

Had we taken back the senate, I can't help but think McConnell would be talking about coming together or some other such nonsense.

Reply 17 - Posted by: lakerman1, 11/7/2012 2:50:52 PM     (No. 8997147)

The filibuster rule required 67 to stop a filibuster, but in the mid 1970s, Dead Ted Kennedy pushed through a change to 60. Now Reid will take it down to 51, I would guess.
And the rule allowing any senator to put a hold on a presidential nominee will also fall by the wayside.
And while the House can stop some of the stuff Zero throws at them, the senate will do the biding of zero, including confirmation of really whacky judges...
This may be the worst part of the kardashian election.
Pray for the health of Scalia and Thomas and kennedy and what's his nme, the other george w bush appointee. forget roberts.

Get honest, just pass a rule that says if the Democrats are in the majority there is no filibuster, and when the Republicans are in the majority there is. Hell, just go ahead and make this country a single party state.

Let's not begin this next four year term by foolishly assuming Senate GOP leadership just had an injection of testosterone. McConnell and the others will not stop Reid or Obama.

The Republicans will cave. The elites want the institutionalized minority status again where they are comfortable. There was a revolution in this country - in 2008. The leftists are just beginning to codify it. This won't take long now.

Okay all you American Patriots! Are you now able to identify with our "founders" who were under a similar "yoke" via King George? Sense the same feelings of helplessness and disenfranchisement they did? History clearly records what American patriots do when confronted with such tyranny. This nation deserves the leadership it has currently chosen and it will stay that way until such time as those actually worthy of the title "American Patriot" take matters into their own hands and right the ship.

The GOP should treat this as a declaration of war. We are at war with the left in this country. The GOP needs to fight fire with fire.

If he does this, then the Republican-controlled House should block any and all legislation Obama needs to fund his programs and the judiciary. Two can play hardball, Mr. Reid.

Yep, you're going to see some reeeaaal compromise there, Mitch. You too, Boehner.

Sometimes I wish that I was a Democrat (except for the ideology, lack of class, brain-dead women and requirement that I forfeit my manhood and become a corrupt, preening metrosexual). They know how to play the game to win.

When the pubs had control before 2006, Reid and the dims used the filibuster probably more than the pubs do now. He also, for the first time started to filibuster judicial candidates during that time. Before then, judicial candidates were given an up or down vote if they passed through the judiciary committee. He gripes now, but he started it. It amazes me that the media never discuss this when the dims cry about the pubs.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.
