Obama Victory Comes With No Mandate
Associated Press, by Ron Fournier

Barack Obama won a second term but no mandate. Thanks in part to his own small-bore and brutish campaign, victory guarantees the president nothing more than the headache of building consensus in a gridlocked capital on behalf of a polarized public. If the president begins his second term under any delusion that voters rubber-stamped his agenda on Tuesday night, he is doomed to fail. Mandates are rarely won on election night. They are earned after Inauguration Day by leaders who spend their political capital wisely, taking advantage of events without overreaching. Obama is capable

Comments:
Looks like he won a 2nd term by the smallest margin ever. If you thought the first term was a disaster, wait until you see the second.

What makes anyone think that a President who has basically legislated via Executive Order, is going to concern himself with whether or not he has a "mandate". He's done what he's wanted since elected, with the Repubs at best being complicit.

It doesnt matter if he won by 1 vote or 30 million. The fact is that he remains the president, sets the agenda, makes appointments and writes executive orders. He knows that he has a Senate that will not hold him accountable and a press that covers for him. He can and will do whatever he wants, whenever he wants with impunity. So the mandate stuff is meaningless.

I'll make this prediction.....within a year....the American people will regret their decision tonight, because the press wont be able to keep a lid on everything forever.

Wait until the unemployment numbers are revised upwards. Or the impending double dip recession. Wait until he signs the small arms treaty and it has the force of law "unless" its rejected by the Senate....and dont expect Reid to allow a floor vote. Wait until the REAL costs of Obamacare kicks in. A whole lot of stuff has been shoved under the carpet and its going to see the light of day.

But whats so bad about all the regret, is that we will still be stuck with Obama until his term expires.

Best thing to do is focus on local politics. Gov, state legislature, Mayors ect. This is the firewall that will protect you from the socialist onslaught coming from Washington.

Now that Romney has conceded, who is going to investigate the fraud? Can the House? I have this fantasy that O'Keefe had some people in place and the number 2 will hit the fan with the info on the massive fraud comes out.

Holder will not investigate. We need another option. There must be one.

Sorry for 2nd post, but I forgot to mention that this is Ron Fournier. His opinion is not indicative of the msm. They will say his reelection is proof-positive that he has a mandate.

I have to say that, Dem retention of the senate points in that direction. The sheeple like their king.

I am not a statistician, but I have to wonder what are the odds in a fair election that one side loses every race that it needed to win. Even loosing all of the races that appeared as potential pickups, all lost. With a disastrous situation for the opponents on so many levels I don't have room to list, we lose it all. What are the odds?

Will anybody ever look at the votes and the machines and figure it out??

#6 There is NO firewall. Simply remind yourself that there has not been a legal budget passed in three years and this administration has done as it pleased with no real opposition by either house or senate.

Boner is a joke, just another go along to get along. He blows smoke and then postures some more. No action Jackson.

Reid flaunts the law, the Constitution, and any semblence of decency, honesty or honor. No senate Republican will take the necessary action. The courts are gone, and the GOP will NOT resist the appointment of more SC ultra lefties who will continue to urinate on the constitution.

Where, for G-d's sake is the silver lining in this dark cloud? There will be no country and no liberty to recover when the cancer completes it's work.

I am so ticked off at the Krautheimers of the "conservatives" I can't find the words.

30 Governors? So what. Two more years at least of Reid and Zero and there will be nothing left to save and no way to save it.

Nonsense. Obama has one heck of a mandate.

The man has power -- more power than ever -- and he's going to use it. The Senate is even more radical than before: Chris Murphy from CT is far more liberal than Lieberman and more to the left than even CT's Senator Blumenthal; Elizabeth Warren won in MA -- a phoney through-and-through yet she won the Senate seat in MA. McCaskill won in MO, Tammy Baldwin in WI, Donnelley in IN, Kaine in VA -- think of what this means ... the radical left now controls the Supreme Court and all the rest of the federal judiciary.

A big loser in this election is religion. All religious entities are now under the control of government.

Romney went through a bruising primary, endured a multimillion dollar character assassination campaign, faced a press corps that not only opposed him but covered for his opponent, and on top of all that got the momentum blown out of his sails by "Sandy" -- yet in spite of all that, he still came very close to winning. I think he deserves a little more credit and a lot more appreciation for a hard fought campaign.

Here's a mandate for you: the Republican Party is now operationally defunct. The Stupid Party that tried to out-Democrat the Democrats needs to just make it official and close up shop. Its time is over. Because of its ineptitude, I will never again see anything approaching economic freedom in my lifetime.

Yes, there is a mandate, the same one His Majesty had in 2008: American Decline. We are on the road to national suicide, just has the Left has always dreamed of. America is no longer the world's leader, by a narrow decision. The consequences will be more devastating than anyone can imagine.

This nation is lost.

God has finally given up on us. And I don't blame Him in the least. We don't deserve Him.

NØbama has his mandate. He will turn the Supreme Court, and then nothing else matters. Activist judges declaring anything they want unconstitutional -- with immediate confirmation from the Supreme Court. Just tell me where to drop my guns off, since the 2nd amendment is officially dead as soon as NØbama signs that treaty with the UN.

I have never felt this empty and hopeless...

I've enjoyed many stories and comments here over the past several years, but I think I am done. The American experiment ended tonight. There will be no recovery from another Obama administration. Republicans will be blamed for all the problems of the next two years and the Democrats will retake the house. The fiscal crisis will only hasten the government take over.

My career was in defense. I say was because I do not know how I can possibly remain in my job, not only because of the coming dismantling of our military. I cannot watch up close the betrayal and death of any more servicemen. Nor can I work for a government whose sympathies are aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran.

So time here will instead be spent preparing for the much more dangerous world we are about to enter. The U.S. will fall as a superpower, and that transition is going to be very harsh. My goal is to find work that will exist in a welfare state and focus on my children. If I am successful, they will end up with the skills necessary for them to fulfill their potential in a country that chooses freedom. That is no longer America. I am not being pessimistic. I am being a realist. As a people we have crossed the threshold to dependency and you cannot go back. Best luck to all of you.

Christie has sabotaged his future in politics, and the buyer's remorse has begun by the MSM. This will almost be fun to watch. Krauthammer wisely said the Republican party is not finished. We are the party with a depth of talent. They will be ready in 4 years. The Dems have rejected their blue dogs and have no future talent.

The country survived 3 terms of FDR. Obozo is lazy, incompetent, undisciplined, and not nearly as cunning. He is going to have a whale of a time trying to get things done with a strongly disciplined GOP Congress. Some of you clamoring for civil war or hiding underneath your computer table need to put your big boy britches on. There is nothing fundamentally wrong with the GOP. The Fifth Estate is the problem. They are a lap dog for our beloved historic empty chair... But when job numbers are revised down, inflation takes off, and the market crashes, they won't be able to hide their naked emperor. Millions of people were converted to the GOP side over the last four years. Millions more will see the light. Doomsdayers are an absolute bore.

I think #37 may have nailed it. Obummer didn't seem interested in the campaign, yet he somehow won. Your explanation may well be the tipping point. The photo op of him saving NJ, then moving on ignoring the continuing disaster. After Bill supposedly warned us, them going out of his way to save the convention, and by extension the race... what was in it for him?

I am just stuck can't afford to stay, can't afford to go, next round of foreclosure will finish me.

The takers outnumber the makers. A blue state electorate which has its hand out for more federal goodies will always defeat the calls for hard work and sweat from our side. We lost decisively last night. There is no denying it. America is gone as a superpower. America is gone, period. Enjoy the collapse.

The United States is going the way of California, and California is already well on the road to becoming another Greece, dragging the rest of us along.

Chaos reigns, but it need not dominate YOUR life. Head down, defenses at the ready, and with plentiful personal supplies, you are as prepared as you are able to weather the storm, even at its worse.

And remember, nothing is forever. One day, all this shall pass.

Who needs a mandate? When you can flout the Constitution by writing executive orders and decrees. Who needs a mandate when the Pravda media won't report the true unemployment 16%,Benghazi, or that our President is a gay dude? The media will keep covering important stories like cats yawning(ahem,Diane Sawyer), and let President Hate America go on with the morning Zoo shows to talk about JayZ.

Romney suggests we help Obama get things done. Yes, now we will see the caving. Problem is when you have a bag full of horsesh!t and you compromise to accept a little bit more each year then you wind up with a larger bag of horsesh!t. And THAT is how the liberals have got their way. Little by little. Bit by bit. It's the old frog in the boiling water.

And that is what this election has shown us.......it's too late to jump out of the pot. And Romney suggests we just help Obama turn up the final flame.

He won. That's all he need to know. The past 4 years he has been doing exactly as he pleased, look for it to continue. Who's going to stop him? Congress? Unlikely. He has edicts to write and install, he has czars to obey his every wish. He has a complicit, corrupt media to cover it all up. Who needs a mandate? He is only one man, but one with the full backing and coverup provided by a totally corrupt, cowardly, and treasonous media.

I am disappointed -- bitterly disappointed. But I keep thinking about this: Zero may have won the election, but God is still God, and God reigns supreme. A lot of people were crying out to Him over the past few days and especially yesterday. And yet, the answer was that this immature clown stays in the White House. When I ponder whether God heard our cries, I think of Romans 1 -- the part about God "giving them over." I think (and with the disclaimer that I'm guessing, because of course I don't know the mind of God) that there are other, deeper things at work here.

Consider this: Had Romney been elected, it would have been by just as small a margin as Zero has been re-elected. Which is to say that many would have rejected everything he said no matter what. But now that Zero stays in office, he'll have to deal with a host of things, including a possible impeachment for his actions in Libya, Fast & Furious, some of his executive orders, etc. I believe with that, the scales will fall from the eyes of a lot of his "believers" in a way that election defeat would not have brought.

Something to ponder on this confusing, heartbreaking morning...

I know a doctor who plans to earn just short of the "greedy" rich amount, then close his office for the rest of the year. There are other docs that feel the same way. And I imagine this thinking will wash over into other service professions. Why work your tush off only to have to turn it over to a loathsome government where it will be wasted? Maybe three or four years of doctor, dentist or manufacturing shortages will wake some people up. About half of them don't have the IQ to process this, tho'.

Obama and the Democrats removed God from their platform (and belatedly snuck him back in only when it became a political issue for them). Well God isn't going anywhere, no matter what Obama and his evil cohorts do. And just because the voters in some blue states think gay marriage is OK, it isn't. I think there is more to this story in the long run.

It is very sad to see how many people were willing to sell their children and grandchildren down the river.

However, God can bring good out of every evil. We simply need to see how He will do it. On the morning after the Crucifixion, everything indeed seemed lost... but there was still an Easter to come. Be not afraid.

Yes, #54, what will Demonrats do when the "producer" Americans go out on "strike?"

Rulers and kings report to God alone. I fear not. Israel had some really bad rulers in its history, and God always came out of it sitting on His throne, a winner, and the evil deposed only when the people turned their faces back to God. I knew this nation, while hurting, had not hurt enough. This was not due to some political barometer, but to a "spiritual" one. This nation in its time of trouble has turned to "the State" and the efforts of men, instead of to the Lord. Mark my words, until people in this country are on their knees begging for His deliverance, this evil will continue to fester.

I still say the MSM has committed the most grievous sin of all. They have sold their souls to the devil by abandoning their Constitutional charter, and will suffer the worst fate of all.

Obamacare is now a reality. The Supreme Court will be directed by International Law. We are now socialists and we will never turn back. We will now have the nanny state blood sucking government the liberals have dreamed of. Christie won't suffer for this. He will become a Democrat and thrive. America is finished. RIP.

Citizens, do not despair! When the Citizens get really fed up with Washington, everything will change! But not until, and most Citizens are not that fed up, yet! Stand by! 2010 was a good example, but we have not been able to carry that magnificent wave forward because of Congressional inertia! -- means, don't rock the boat as we may hurt ourselves! -- lose our perks and all that! Putting Sarah and the other great people on the back burner is all about keeping control -- not doing the best for our America!

My prediction has come true. Obama won and our country is no longer a country with freedom. Our country is now a socialist country, with no though of God and will appoint Supreme court members that will forever protect their own liberal agenda. Our freedom is gone forever. God allowed this to happen and I think that within 6 months, the people of this country will see what a big mistake has been made. Congress will not do anything as they think they will have to do as the majority of the people in this country want. We are doomed.

Folks, it's simple: Mitt Romney was correct.

He was elected by people that HE made dependent upon government. Add in the usual suspects and voila.

He put up an excellent fight and closed a 10 million vote margin in 2008 to 1 million. He did nothing wrong. People have lost their way.

This is going to get ugly. Really ugly.

The truth is that we have become Parasite Nation. We are now outnumbered by the parasites. Those dependent on government handouts, plus those working directly for the government, plus those here illegally now total more than the private sector producers. And that number is only going to get bigger. Much bigger.

We have awoken in occupied, captive Parasite Nation.

Citizens and Patriots! Arm thy selves with Honor, Truth, and unwavering aim! The American government officials who allowed four good and loyal Americans to die in Benghazi without assistance should be subjected to the harshest Laws of the Land without delay! The first duty of a Citizen is to insure that the Laws of the Land are promptly and effectively brought to bear upon those who would sully the American Flag, and its Patriots!

#55 & 62- I'm with you.

I will not stop fighting for my children and grandchildren. I refuse to give what we have built to progressive ingrates, who will destroy everything we've worked for. We have had things too easy for too long, and grew complacent. We too, contribute to the problem by not fighting for what we believe in.

Are we really going to give up after only four years? This wasn't accomplished in less than 80.

Boehner needs us to constantly put his feet to the fire. We have one house, it's our job to make sure it stands in opposition to the WH.

We lost a battle. Mourn it and then get over it, and figure out how to win the war. Progressives have already given us the winning playbook. WE just have to adopt it.

Wow. I woke up this morning after a fitful few hours of - quote - ''sleep'' - and thought I had had a really bad dream. Now I realize it's a continuation of a real-life, already four-year-long NIGHTMARE. And the dark mist continues to descend on us....

But I appreciate post #52 and others who brought a little more focus into my red and aching eyes. We can't just sit here whining forever - obviously we have much work to do. Have we been vanquished? Are we that wimpy?

Not me. I'll be in a bad mood today and nothing will get me out of it, except remembering #52's post. But the warrior in me (and I'm a 60-year-old grandma!) will be exercising more and eating more healthfully. I may retrain for my CCW which I let lapse, and I may even take bow-hunting lessons. But I REFUSE to give up! I don't even know if I have pilgrim or Revolutionary War ancestor blood in me, but it doesn't matter.... I'm feeling that call, and I'll do my part to get this country back again, or start the new one.

Obama will have a brief reprieve from me until I can gauge his next actions. But I don't expect any better from him, and I'll be ready when the time comes.

Get up! Get busy!

This is way down the list and I know many won't see it, okay most won't, but I am going to say I Told You So. For all the Romneyites who came here, denigrating any mention of Palin or anyone other than Romney, I knew this would happen. I never wanted him to be our nominee. Neither did a huge segment of republicans. Rove and his elitists need to get over the old boy, private school, gentlemen's rules of conduct. The democrats are street fighters. We now have Chicago mobsters running the country. IF there is another election, if I don't like who the nominee is, I will not vote. This is the last time I will hold my nose, choke off nausea, and voted Republican.

Now, on the other hand, every single internal poll showed Romney with a landslide victory. Then suddenly the last two or three days, dead quiet, as someone noted here yesterday. Romney looked ill at his last debate. Christie looked neutered when Obama walked beside him at the devastated New Jersey hurricane site. No way do I believe this was a legitimate victory for Obama. The worst thing that ever happened to this country is voting via computer.

Watching those sate by state electoral maps last night, it became evident exactly who elects a president. Most states were awash in red with the exception of those blue pockets which comprise cities and large urban areas - the most populace areas of the states, i.e., the handouts crowd and their liberal enablers who continue to multiply like rabbits. The vast area of midwestern states ought not to even bother voting, as the number of electoral votes they can muster is trumped by the number of electoral votes awarded to those states populated by the largest number of The Great Entitled.

I apologize for my incorrect info last night! It now appears that all those independents? who kept telling pollsters they were voting for Romney were actually Republicans all along, only they identified as Republicans in earlier polling (2008). So that explains why the polling was off. Liberals were fired up and not answering polls!!

Last night was a big win for the new Dem coalition-I think it's now an unbeatable one: minorities, women, unions, welfare folks, and the media/entertainment complex. Really sad.

That barrage of negative ads that Romney allowed to go unanswered all summer long suppressed turnout for both parties. It was down around 13 million from 2008 and some 3 million of those were Republican. Enough Republicans/Republic leaning independents failed to turn out to allow the Democrat urban turnout machine to prevail.

The problem for Obama going forward is just about everything. All the pain from Obamacare and Dodd Frank is backloaded into 2013 and 2014. The economy is about to head into another recession. The job picture is only going to worsen because Obamacare encourages employers to hire part time instead of full time. Nobody likes what Obama has been doing but they didn't trust the alternative. Add in second term funk. A lot of people will leave the administration and their replacements will have even less talent.

The silver lining is that no longer will Obama be able to blame Bush. Going forward this mess belongs entirely to the Democrats.

We have turned into Europe, if we are lucky, and Venezuela if we are not. No mandate needed. Executive Orders and regulations will do it, as you've all pointed out. The rest will be taxation, no budget, Republican caving and a weak military. China will outstrip us here within 10 years and dominate the financial markets with its corrupt economy.

Predictions: Christie gets a job in this new administration (don't know which--but he sold us all out), Tiny Bloomberg becomes the head of the rumored Department of Business, in Benghazigate Hillary C. and Petraeus are both thrown under the bus as the CIA gets tagged (and gutted again), and in 2016 Linebacker Moochelle runs for President.

We had one more chance, and God saw us blow it. He, like Elvis, has left the building. He looked at us, His most blessed country, His creatures of free will, and was disappointed.

So it was the 47% afterall.. only like some have said.. it is really more like 52%, and growing. I dont want to be in that catagory, and I dont think we need to give up on our conservative roots. Pay no attention to those who think we need to lie down and play nice. Remind everyone you can that the country may have given Obama votes last night, but they also had to elect every single congressman last night as well. So, last I looked, we have control of the HOUSE and they had to be re-elected by people who want them there! Also, we elected new GOP govenors. So the states are going to be fighting hard for states rights.

If we buy into this nonsense that its time for us to give up on our values, then we are lost.

Obama won and he will ignore Congress - already has shown that these past four years.

The makers will be bled dry and then when there is no more money - economic and societal collpase.

How are local or state governmente going to deal with Obamacare, Executive Orders, immigration, etc? They are powerless. The States lost that fight in 1865.

I said before-I was just a little uneasy about how lackadaisical Obama seemed to take the debates, like he just didn't give a crap. He told Putin this was his last election(as if he knew he would win). Why is it the swing states took so much extra time to tally their votes, when all other states, east of the Mississippi river, had already counted, tallied, closed and submitted? hanky panky? suspicious.

The electoral college approach to elections is screwed. Why should the presidential election boil down to what about seven key states or so want? Is that fair? The midwest, short of Ca and Wa, the south always go Republican. Forget New England already-any hope last night at times was a farce(I should have known better-Pa/Me).

The gov should drop the electoral college aspect and just make it popular vote only. To heck with this aspect of the electoral college being implemented to offset state's advantage in regards to population. Obama has broken so many laws, defiled the constitution, the we can sure as h change some laws as well! Besides he has steamrolled any and all laws he deems as stemming from 1776 white men. If he can quash old laws, we can quash old laws.

It's demographics. In PA Obama won Philly by 500,000+ votes but won the state by half that. PA is solid Red, but is represented in Washington by the inner city ... and always will be.

And it's money. We now have 30 R governors because folks want low state taxes. Yet we send D's to the Senate and White House so we can get some of other peoples' money.

This was not close, Zero has beaten Romney as well as he did McPain. It's time to face facts, folks. This is a repudiation of conservatism like no other. As for Ann Coulter's crush, Chris Christie, it was obvious that he had to embrace Obama or be denied Federal help for his storm-stricken constituents. Us plain-speakers call it "blackmail."

We were socialist lite, now we are socialist marching briskly to communism. My only consolation is that my husband & I are old, we have no children or grandchildren. I am determined to march cheerfully to my fate with my head up and the memory of a once great nation in my heart. I will give no one the satisfaction of seeing anything but a bright smile today. The Spartans, the Greeks, the Egyptians, the Romans, the British Empire have all gone into that good night and now we are going too. We must face our end bravely as our founding fathers did as an example to us.

He owns it – every horrible piece of it and the liberals who put him in again own it too. Benghazi, fast & furious, Hurricane Sandy, 16 Trillion, Afghanistan & Iraq and Israel’s fate. President Bush & the republicans cannot be blamed any longer.

We have been forsaken as a nation and God has turned his face from us. We were born free and will die slaves in a communist state. Half the country is on government assistance. They were not about to give up the milk that was free. They chose comfort over freedom hence they deserve neither and people like us will join them in suffering the consequences for their foolishness.

God said "choose life". This nation did not choose wisely last night.

May God have mercy on some of us

I just saw on Drudge that Romney's totals didn't match McCain 2008 totals. DO you smell major tampering? I don't mean simply the old, "Everyone I know voted for...", I'm talking about major tampering.

Republican turnout was huge. Independents when polled, broke for Romney in all national polls. Why are Romney's numbers lower than McCain's 2008? Even if the Dems managed to outnumber us, Romney's numbers should exceed THAT lackluster performance.

I think this is a version of the BIG LIE. If it's big enough, everyone is forced to believe it.

The question is: Do we put up? Or SHUT UP?

IRS fining business on
taxes that were never due
WKMG-TV [Orlando, FL], by Lauren Sweeney    Original Article

New York - In the fall of 2013, I gave a TED talk on what I learned as a progressive, on-air talking head at Fox News, where I worked for two years before leaving and joining my current home, CNN. After all, one of the most frequent questions I was asked during my time at Fox was how I did it, how I was a fox in the henhouse – or a hen in the Fox house, if you will. (Snip) For a radical progressive who once harbored negative stereotypes about folks on the right, it was a turning point

London - British police said Tuesday they had intervened after North Korean embassy officials reportedly told a London hairdresser to take down a discount haircuts advert featuring leader Kim Jong-Un. Mo Nabbach said two officials identifying themselves as being from the Stalinist state´s mission took pictures of his M&M Hair Academy in Ealing, west London. They then demanded to know his name and ordered him to remove the "disrespectful" poster from the salon window, he told the Evening Standard newspaper. The poster featured a large picture of Kim´s distinctive short-back-and-sides hairdo with the slogan: "Bad hair day? 15 percent off

Washington - It´s Friday night in Eckington, a quiet residential corner of Washington, and the back alley is crawling with feral cats -- rich pickings for seasoned cat-trapper Marty King. "Here, kitty kitty kitty kitty," said King after setting four metal traps baited with flaked shrimp and fish cat food and lined with fresh newspapers. (Snip) Coast to coast, the Humane Society of the United States estimates there are as many as 50 million feral cats, or "community cats" as their advocates prefer to call them. That compares to 95.6 million cats kept as pets. For decades, standard procedure has

After remarks he made at the National Action Network conference this week and various actions on voting rights and equality he’s taken over the past several months, MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry is starting to wonder if Attorney General Eric Holder is “the Obama we had been hoping for.” Even though she admitted it’s not entirely fair to “separate” Holder from President Barack Obama, that’s the question the host posed to her panel Saturday morning. “I think he may be the greatest addition to the entire Obama Administration,” Fordham University’s Christina Greer told Harris-Perry, saying the “foundational work”

KIEV/MOSCOW - Armed separatists took virtual control of a city in eastern Ukraine on Saturday and Kiev prepared troops to deal with what it called an "act of aggression by Russia". Pro-Russian activists carrying automatic weapons seized government buildings in Slaviansk and set up barricades on the outskirts of the city. Official buildings in several neighboring towns were also attacked. The developments have increased concerns of a possible "gas war" that could disrupt energy supplies across the continent. "The Ukrainian authorities consider the events of the day as a display of external aggression from Russia,"

Women’s specialty clothing chain Coldwater Creek filed for bankruptcy on Friday and said it will close all of its stores around the country, including 11 in Minnesota. The Sandpoint, Idaho-based company plans to time its liquidation sales to coincide with the traditionally busy Mother’s Day weekend. Coldwater Creek is the latest retailer to seek protection from creditors as consumers continue to manage their household budgets tightly and hold back on discretionary spending. Others to file for bankruptcy include discount chain Loehmann’s, trendy retailer Dots and the plus-sized Ashley Stewart Holdings. Coldwater Creek announced plans to seek strategic alternatives in October,

Like him or hate him, there is no disputing that Rush Limbaugh’s very special brand of mixing right-wing politics with his flare for entertainment has produced one of the most successful radio programs in the medium’s long history. Whatever the burning political question of the day, millions of Americans have relished the opportunity to tune into Rush’s program, knowing that he would quickly take that hot potato, throw a few gallons of verbal kerosene into the mix and elevate the matter into a five alarm fire with a just a few well-chosen words spoken in the style only Rush Limbaugh could

Casual marijuana use may come with some not-so-casual side effects. For the first time ever, researchers at Northwestern University have analyzed the relationship between casual use of marijuana and brain changes – and found that young adults who used cannabis just once or twice a week showed significant abnormalities in two important brain structures. The study’s findings, to be published Wednesday in the Journal of Neuroscience, are similar to those of past research linking chronic, long-term marijuana use with mental illness and changes in brain development. Dr. Hans Breiter, co-senior study author, said he was inspired to look at the effects of casual

Less than a minute into his speech at the Boston marathon bombing memorial on Tuesday, Vice President Joe Biden went tragically off script and told the crowd of Boston bombing survivors that "it was worth it." After expressing how impressed he was with the tribute, he said somberly, "let me say to those ´quote survivors,´ my God, you have survived and you have soared. It was worth it. I mean this sincerely - just to hear each of you speak. You´re truly, truly inspiring." The audience sat in stunned silence until Biden declared, "I´ve never heard anything so beautiful than

Look, everyone loves Sean Connery, particularly Sean Connery. That’s why he plays Sean Connery in every movie he’s in. People love that Scottish brogue so much, they don’t mind that he has it when he plays Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, an immortal Spaniard in Highlander. The guy even won an Oscar for playing an Irish cop with a Scottish accent. Talk about sexist double standards: Meryl Streep has to master foreign dialects to get her golden statuettes. Connery just has to show up on time. In economics you devalue a currency by printing too much of it. In film you

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Toddlers show racial bias when picking playmates, a study reveals. They also take account of how fairly others behave. Researchers tested the reaction of white 15-month-olds as toys were distributed. Two white adults divided the toys, one equally and the other unequally. Seventy per cent of the toddlers chose to play with the researcher who distributed the toys fairly. But in a second test, when one researcher favoured a white recipient over an Asian one, they picked the ‘fair’ researcher less often, the journal Frontiers in Psychology reports. And the babies are more likely to help those who share the same ethnicity, which is known as

I live in Las Vegas. I live and breath Nevada politics. Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in the Nevada desert. And Senator Harry Reid’s fingerprints are all over it. I am of course referring to the Bundy Ranch siege. This was a dispute between a Nevada ranching family with rights to the land in question for 140 years and the BLM (Bureayu of Land Management). The government claims they haven’t paid grazing fees for 20 years. The result was a government assault on the ranch- including snipers with assault rifles, SUV’s, helicopters, airplanes and over 200 heavily armed troops. No
