| What’s the difference between superstorm Sandy and the horrible events that preceded it — from Hurricane Andrew in 1992 to Hurricane Hugo in 1989 to Hurricane Irene in 2011? Answer: They happened in summer. This is November. It’s cold. And getting colder. All those storms did much greater damage overall and caused far greater loss of life. But for the 4 million without power in the greater New York City area in the fifth day of the aftermath, the casual, minute-by-minute suffering is fast becoming comparable.

Bette Midler had a wonderful Halloween party in Manhattan in the aftermath of the storm. We are so glad for her and her liberal pals. They probably had no need to go dumpster diving like their fellow New Yorkers in East Village.

How about a little personal responsibiity? What if every household had an emergency cache of batteries, food, water, tarps and even gasloline? Then when this sort of thing happens people can help themselves and neighbor can help neighbor.
Instead we all live day to day and wind up depending on the nanny state when calamity happens.
I told a friend that I was setting aside extra food and water in case of emergency. He said he was "stockpiling" food. I asked how long it would last him.
He said, "Seven hours."

Basic GEOGRAPHY!!
New O. [Katrina} and Florida [Andrew}, [Ivan] etc are in the SOUTH.
NJ and NY are in the NORTH ..... as well as it being November.

I can't recall how many ice storms we weathered in New England in past winters, and blizzards, too, without power for days on end. And no FEMA or any other government help(?), but we survived. (I've been around for well over 70 years.) So I have to smile when I hear all the complaints about politicians not responding to their pleas. Well, it's been that way for many, many years, and don't expect anything to change much. Yes, it's November and getting colder, but I have seen worse conditions in mid-winter, and am still here. So buckle down and help yourself as much as possible, and then complain when you've done all you can.

It would not be unlike this Administration to delay relief efforts until the situation became as unbearable as it got. That way, the gov't would come off as savior and desperate people would be more grateful than if they'd showed up earlier.
Would it translate into votes, since that is all Obama cares about? Who knows?

The Internal Revenue Service, charged with implementing the biggest change in tax laws in 20 years due to Obamacare, has created eight offices and special "teams" to handle the chore, way more than initially revealed. The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) have reversed their longstanding membership guidelines to allow homosexuals to join the organization. In an email to CNSNews.com, the BSA public affairs office said the vote on the resolution to “remove the restriction denying membership to youth on the basis of sexual orientation alone” was passed with 61.44 percent in favor and 38.56 percent opposed. “For 103 years, the Boy Scouts of America has been a part of the fabric of this nation, with a focus on working together to deliver the nation’s foremost youth program of character development and values-based leadership training,”
