| The world can be a scary place and, for many, cartoon villains and cheap explanations serve to account for its rough edges. “We have so many people,” noticed Ronald Reagan, ”who can’t see a fat man standing beside a thin one without coming to the conclusion the fat man got that way by taking advantage of the thin one.” So it goes with the weather and the climate, in which realms those who scoff derisively at the religious and abhor theodicy as the preserve of rubes and reactionaries are extraordinarily quick to share their own unlettered theories as to how and why we are afflicted by tragedy.

I got a question: Can you possibly image how power would be restored if (assuming its even possible) the these regions relied on wind and solar power as primary sources of electricity?
Can you imagine the wrecks of windmills washing up on the coast or the vast destruction of acres upon acres of solar panel farms that would need to be nearby?
It wouldn't take days to restore power under this scenario, it would take months.

I am blessed enough to have several months worth of food, several options to heat my home and a backup generator. We Alaskans try to be prepared. We have our share of bad weather and average 6 month temps below freezing. God Bless those in the East.

The blue states can have climate change, socialism, whatever. All the rest of us ask to be left out of the liberal utopia and left alone.

I when through the "Loma Prieta" earthquake in 1989. I lost $60K in property damage and we had no power for many days. Too this day, I am a fanatic about keeping my cars full of gas and keeping 40 gallons of gas in the shed (I use it and replenish to keep it from going bad). I also keep a good supply of non-perishable food and water handy. I also have several ways to keep my house warm in the event of a winter crisis. It only took me one event to get with the program. And by the way: the climate is always changing and we have no control of it, only our selves in how re responde.

We know the Republican Congress is in a tizzy about the IRS looking into requests for IRS Tax exemptions for organizations named "Tea Party" and other conservative labels. They even had some hearings on them, attempting to tie the White House and President Obama to the scene. But as hard as they try, they simply cannot, since the White House had no knowledge of the incidents until told by the Inspector General. But wait. If President Obama, the White House and Democrats had nothing to do with something that seems so political, what about the Republicans?

A Common Pleas Court judge has blocked a religious group from holding loud, racially charged demonstrations in front of the entrance to One Liberty Place at 16th and Chestnut Streets. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.
