Angry residents pelted utility crews with eggs as they tried to restore power in Bridgeport, Conn., after the mayor claimed the local power company had "shortchanged" the state's largest city as it tries to recover from superstorm Sandy. United Illuminating workers reported eggs and other objects being thrown at them a day after Mayor Bill Finch said the utility was taking care of wealthy suburbs while his constituents suffered. The unrest caused United Illuminating to pull its workers out until the city agreed to provide police protection.
When our area had a major ice storm and we were without power for a week, we made our work crew hot chocolate ( fireplace) in appreciation. Not sure how throwing eggs is going to work out for these people
Obama's Class Warfare Jargon even applies to Conn. utility workers here? Poor Obama's Class Warfare has been taken to a new level here. Hopefully voters will be able to remedy this on Nov, 6th. by voting this charlatan out of office for good?
For anyone who thought that Sandy would help 0bama, oh really, REALLY? In fact, scenes such as this and gas lines and shortages are so negative that they are getting less and less airtime even as they become more frequent.
you have no power. you're mad. the mayor is criticizing the utility. and when the workers show up, you throw eggs at them and threaten their safety. so they leave. yeah. that should work out well for you. get used to the cold and the dark.
January 2003: Bridgeport's mayor, Joseph P. Ganim, will be on trial on 24 counts of federal bribery, corruption and racketeering charges, the fourth big-city Connecticut mayor in 13 years to face criminal charges. Sentenced to nine years in Club Fed.
June 2006: Bridgeport Mayor John M. Fabrizi admitted to cocaine and alcohol abuse while serving as mayor.
May 2007: Fabrizi announced he would not seek re-election, but served on the Democratic State Central Committee of Connecticut for the 2008-2010 term. Currently, Fabrizi is a supporter of Bridgeport's current Mayor Bill Finch.
October 2012: Mayor Bill Finch, of Bridgeport CT, was caught joking about corruption saying, “We will get the votes even if they are a few days late”.
The common thread? All are DemocRATS.
The people of Bridgeport are getting the governemtn they deserve.
The true irony, folks. From the front lines. I live in one of those "wealthy" burbs to which the dimwit mayor refers. No electricity still. Have not seen a single utility truck yet. And you know why? They're all in freaking, non tax paying Bridgeport! No words for how angry this news story makes me.
The more I hear about and from some of these "Sandy" victims...the less concern and respect I have for them. Let's see you are without power, someone is there trying to restore it and you throw eggs at them. WTH??? I live in Houston and in Ike and Alicia, our home was without power for 2 weeks. There was NEVER any behavior remotely similar to this anywhere in TX. Is this how all "yankees" behave? or just the repulsive liberal progressive ones? I'm appalled that these people are Americans. That mayor is repulsive and so are these people throwing eggs a blight/pox(deservingly so) on all their(liberal progressive) houses.
I'm in Louisiana and have been through several hurricanes as well as an ice storm when i lived ni Mississippi. That people would attack those who are there to help and working long hours in dangerous conditions is absurd and shows the real 47% entitlement mentality. Pack up and leave guys. Go where you're appreciated.
It would be extremely interesting to learn what is in the minds of those throwing eggs at utility workers trying to restore power. Have any of the egg tossers been interviewed by the media? I would really like to know what their justification is for behavior that seems obviously counterproductive. There must be an angle here I am missing. Nobody is that stupid, not even Obama supporters.
Well. . .maybe I should reserve judgment. The kinds of people who vote for Obama have in the past been known to burn down their own neighborhoods and attack firemen if they are unhappy with something. But that is riot and mob mentality. I have never before heard of people throwing eggs at utility workers who are there to restore their power for them.
As an employee, I go where I am told to go. If they have a beef with the utility company, go to the office go to the higher ups. If I was on one of those trucks, I would have gotten in my truck and left for my own safety, they can sit in the dark.
Another display of democrat wizardry. Throw things at people that are trying help ease your distress. Makes a lot of sense to antagonize workers who can improve your circumstances. Be a complete fool, vote for Zero.
Very telling. Kudos to #24. End Times prophecy: But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.
HAIFA, Israel – Bird-brained terrorists in Lebanon have taken a suspected Israeli spy into custody – an eagle that was outfitted with a transmitter that allowed conservationists to study the raptor’s migratory patterns. In the latest case of Muslim militants seeing a secret agent with wings and a beak, Iranian-backed Hezbollah forces are keeping the eagle under lock and key after it was found by hunters near the town of Ashkout, northeast of Beirut. The bird had a ring around its leg that bore the name ‘Tel Aviv University,’ written in English, as well as a receiver device attached, according to
Wal-Mart (WMT) stores in Springhill and Mansfield, La., saw a stampede and a shelf-clearing rush Saturday after a computer glitch for food stamp recipients led to benefit cards allowing unlimited purchases. Police were called as entire shelves were being cleared out, until the glitch was fixed and low-income residents using the cards were no longer allowed to make purchases. Col. Bud Day, an Air Force fighter pilot who was shot down in the Vietnam War, imprisoned with John McCain in the notorious “Hanoi Hilton,” and defiantly endured more than five years of brutality without divulging sensitive information to his captors, earning him the Medal of Honor, died on Saturday in Shalimar, Fla. He was 88. His death was announced by his wife, Doris. Colonel Day was among America’s most highly decorated servicemen, having received nearly 70 medals and awards,
The 22 children who became ill Thursday after eating lunch at a San Diego school cafeteria made themselves sick on purpose as part of a game, school officials confirmed on Friday. According to San Diego Unified School District spokesman Jack Brandais, a group of students at Audubon Elementary School in the Lomita area were playing a game of “dare” in the cafeteria, urging one another to put different ingredients into their milk to see who could keep the milk down without vomiting. Brandais said the ingredients included hot sauce, salt, pepper, carrots and other vegetables being served at lunch.
Reuters reports Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano will resign today: The Los Angeles Times has more: Janet Napolitano, the U.S. secretary of Homeland Security and former governor of Arizona, is being named as the next president of the University of California system, in an unusual choice that brings a national-level politician to a position usually held by an academic. Her appointment also means the 10-campus system will be headed by a woman for the first time in its 145-year history.
HGTV viewers are expressing outrage after the network suggested they use American flags as table cloths for Fourth of July celebrations, calling offensive, un-American and an insult to the American military. “Using an American flag as a table cloth dishonors all Americans who love Old Glory – especially those who gave their lives defending it,” one viewer wrote. “No one dies for a table cloth.”
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — A Massachusetts police official say the brothers suspected of bombing the Boston Marathon before having shootouts with authorities didn´t have gun permits. Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert Haas tells The Associated Press in an interview Sunday that neither Tamerlan Tsarnaev (tsahr-NEYE´-ehv) nor his brother Dzhokhar had permission to carry firearms. He says it´s unclear whether either ever applied and the applications aren´t considered public records.
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
