Simple. You tell him that it isn't about black, white, red, yellow, or any other color. It is about doing a good job, or not. It is about competence, or incompetence. It's a perfect opportunity to explain why some issues transcend color.

Ironic indeed that the evidence America is moving past racism is not the hiring but the firing of Obama. It was racist to hire him as an affirmative action president. This is not really that hard. People who vote for or against someone because of their race are racists. There are smiley faced racists who think they are doing a good thing and should not be called racists because they mean well. But a smiley faced racist is in many ways worse than a ugly faced racist, because the latter is at least honest with himself while a smiley faced racist is not.

The near unanimous black vote for Obama because of his race, while understandable, is still deplorable. It shows that a lot of work needs to be done to combat black racism. Unfortunately, white liberals, because of their own racism, actually encourage racism in blacks. There is an element of black(!) comedy in all this: black and white liberal racists march around talking about race all the time and accusing the rest of us of being racists, while we try in vain to get them to stop talking about skin color and instead stick to the issues.

When I lived in California, I listened to Larry all the time. I loved it when he had his mom on the air. She was great.

I seem to remember that before the 2008 election old Larry was planning on voting for Obama because he was black and it was time for a black president; a sentiment I heard repeated by many others.
