President Obama and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie today flew over the Jersey Shore to assess the devastation that Superstorm Sandy left in its wake, stopping at a community center to reassure the storm's victims that state and federal officials are working together to help the state recover. "We are here for you," Mr. Obama told residents during a news conference following their tour. (Snip) "We will not quit until this is done," Mr. Obama said. "We are not going to tolerate red tape, we are not going to tolerate bureaucracy." Christie praised the president's response to the storm, saying "he has sprung into action

And he vowed that no one would be left behind.

If I may #1: Purple lip service from a known liar.
I must note that many of the ads for Obama show him with not such dark purple lips.

Milk it for all it's worth, dude. Show the voters how much you care. Shine, baby, shine!

This is pretty insulting to the intelligence, but Democrats always do that. They think Americans are so dumb they can fool them without breaking a sweat. One must admit there is some evidence for this view. But they don't have to rub it in the way they do.

It's also insulting to the American spirit, or what used to be the American spirit. People just stand around and wail and wring their hands and wait for the Feds to come and kiss it and make it well? Communities and states are helpless? The Federal government is big brother for everyone to lean on? That's not the way it used to be. Americans haven't always had to be rescued by the Federal government. Or is it just a case of shelling out the shekels? Obama may soon be riding down the street throwing handfuls of hundred dollar bills out the window of the presidential limo. Or maybe they could rig one of those big forest fire fighting planes to swoop low and drop cash rather than water on the afflicted areas.

Nobody doubts of denies that the Federal government has an important role to play in major disasters. But it is a mistake to forget about grassroots, local and state resources and enterprise and to create the impression that Federal help is all there is.

FTA: "When you see neighbors helping neighbors then you're reminded what America's all about. We look out for one another and we don't leave anybody behind."

This may be a little nitpicky, but I beg to differ: This is what America is “all about” during a disaster of this nature and when no one is at fault. America, however, is not all about “looking out for one another” and “not leaving anybody behind.” America is all about freedom. Freedom, God-given generosity and God-given plenty are what enable Americans to “look out for one another.” That is a manifestation of the generosity of free people, not a cause in itself.

The cause is freedom. Don’t forget it.

Now we know what Chris Christie is. At least he is an expensive one. He serviced Obama up and down the NJ shore, and Obama left a blank check on the bed before heading back to Washington.

Reply 9 - Posted by: DoktorFranken, 10/31/2012 6:39:52 PM     (No. 8977887)

I wonder why he didn't take some photo-op pics by the MILES LONG lines of people in NJ waiting to get gas? Couldn't fit it into the 90 minutes that he spent there?

And, OP, great comment!

Three quotes from that lying phony made me sick.

1) "We are here for you."
2) "We are not going to tolerate red tape, we are not going to tolerate bureaucracy."
3) “We look out for one another and we don't leave anybody behind."

1) Until Nov 7th; then you can kiss my royal grits.
2) The master of red tape and Cloward-Piven
bureaucracy can say his with a straight face?!
3) In-your-face insulting with the memory of those SACRIFICED to his re-election in Benghazi so fresh in our minds.

I would really love to throw a 'blanket party' for this POS on January 21st.

Reply 11 - Posted by: Donna M, 10/31/2012 7:10:33 PM     (No. 8977937)

This is all visuals for Zero-the-hero-of-Benghazi. Christie is a fool. Why for heaven's sake is he prostituting NJ for aid he will get for the state anyway? It will go for Zero anyway, but what this grandstanding does is to ensure Menendez' reelection and to tip the House in NJ.

My guess is that what will happen on Nov. 7 is that the spigot of aid will be turned to 'OFF.'

Reply 12 - Posted by: Father of Internet, 10/31/2012 7:12:29 PM     (No. 8977939)

Obama made it political by proclaiming that if not for the actions of the NJ Senate delegation (both Democrats, one up for re-election in Bob Menendez), the FEMA money would not be there. Of course, Christie could have said that in situations like this, no matter what party a state governor and the sitting President are, there should never be politics played in situations like this (like Blanco did with President Bush).

Reply 13 - Posted by: angelesgift, 10/31/2012 7:19:53 PM     (No. 8977943)

I don't think Christie is anybody's fool. Encourage Obama's narcissism and people who are saddened and suffering will very quickly be disgusted by, "Look at me, me, me. Look what I'm doing." Also, there is a slight chance that he might actually do something. Just sayin'

Reply 14 - Posted by: GoDeacs79, 10/31/2012 7:27:06 PM     (No. 8977958)

So the preezy made 3 phone calls to Christie and deserves high praise? What did he do, look up the number all by himself? I make phone calls in the course of doing my job all the time. I suppose it is newsworthy that Barry is actually spending a few minutes doing his job.

Reply 15 - Posted by: Davids918, 10/31/2012 7:44:30 PM     (No. 8978005)

I wonder if he means "no red tape allowed" like he meant "shovel-ready jobs"?

I'll bet the Coastal commission will want to way-in, the EPA(if you're a business), and a host of other agencies will slow this process down.

And watch for the unions to demand they, and they only, get to do all the rebuilding, and at "prevailing wages". This will allow the mafia to ensure their skim.
It is NJ, after all, right?

Reply 16 - Posted by: mercedesops, 10/31/2012 7:48:06 PM     (No. 8978021)

Christie could be of more use to his state if he wasn't popping up on TV every hour and acting as an Obama campaign prop. Christie might as well pull a Charlie Crist and leave the GOP as he no longer has a future there. And for that matter unless he changes his eating habits he no longer has a future period.

Reply 17 - Posted by: bighambone, 10/31/2012 8:04:09 PM     (No. 8978060)

As a poster above said, the liberal Democrats are masters of big government and bureaucratic "red tape". Someone should have asked Obama how he defines "red tape"? Are efforts to ensure that millions of dollars are not given to fraudsters "red tape"?

Remember during the 2008 Presidential Campaign when Obama, while conning naive Americans, said that once he was elected "the oceans would recede" well that sure did not happen with Hurricane Sandy!

If election wasn't a week away, Barry would have told NJ to go pound sand, just like he did to other Republican governors when disaster hit them.

Among the criteria by which the Internal Revenue Service selected groups in for its political targeting program in 2012 was "educating on the constitution and bill of rights" (lowercase in original), according to the Inspector General´s Report. Lois Lerner, who directs the office at the center of that effort, has received her own education in the Constitution.(Snip)Josh Marshall, proprietor of TalkingPointsMemo.com, concedes that Lerner "has every right" to invoke the Fifth Amendment "and may be wise to do so. But that´s a decision that simply is not consistent with her remaining in her job.

CINCINNATI, OH - The claim that the ongoing IRS scandal is limited to low level employees is falling apart. The six Cincinnati workers we have identified, who sent scrutinizing letters to conservative groups with words including "patriot, liberty, tea party or 9-12" in their names are Mitchel Steele, Carly Young, Joseph Herr, Stephen Seok, Liz Hofacre and a woman identified only as Ms. Richards. We can now officially call the Obama administration besieged. One of President Obama´s underlings is set to plead her Fifth Amendment Right against self-incrimination in the burgeoning IRS scandal. The Los Angeles Times broke the story: Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won´t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening - or why she didn´t disclose it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor III. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

Former Rep. The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
