| Let’s try to imagine what the world would look like if President Obama is re-elected. Washington over the next four years would probably look much as it has over the last two: Obama running the White House, Republicans controlling the House and Democrats managing the Senate. We’d have had a long slog of an election before a change-hungry electorate, and we’d end up with pretty much the same cast of characters as before. Obama would probably try to enact the agenda he laid out most clearly in his recent interview with The Des Moines Register: Obama said he would try to recreate

Brooks is one of the most vacant, vapid people who is published. He is arrogant and ignorant, an economic moron, and knows nothing of the country he writes about as if this is just another election of small change or small stasis.
What an abject idiot.

Brooks damns Romney with faint praise! David Brooks labels himself a conservative to make us think he is different from the NYT editorial board. He is not. He is a closet liberal flying under false colors. Every time I read any of his stuff, I end up wondering why I bothered.

Seems to me that Brooks is totally taken by a need to receive attention and affection from the overwhelmingly liberal types he is around.
For some reason, he has chosen to hang out with the EJ Dionnes of the world and yearns for their approval.
Was Brooks possibly a conservative at some point? Hard to tell; he's certainly not one now.

#4 spot on description. Yeah, everything will pretty much be the same, NOT. First of all BHO has set a new standard in usurping power for the President. He has managed to do multiple unconstitutional acts that past Presidents could only dream about, and that is what he calls constrained. His first move will be to destroy the Supreme Court and then all bets are off. No fiscal controls, no legal controls and enough loyal police forces combined with intentional crisis to bend every American to his will or their death. Our freedoms are practically gone, certainly if YOU are targeted as a project for the Federal government. Our economic system has been perverted and there seems to be very few ways out of a catastrophic world wide debt.
We either voluntarily choose to become a bigger Cuba in 4 years or we vote for a man who hopefully has the brains and backbone to lead us in a hard, long effort to get America back.

NASA´s Hubble Space Telescope has snapped a spectacular new image of an iconic nebula to celebrate its 23 years of peering deep into the heavens. The Hubble observatory, which launched on April 24, 1990, captured the Horsehead Nebula in infrared light, peering through obscuring veils of dust to reveal the object´s hidden features. "The result is a rather ethereal and fragile-looking structure, made of delicate folds of gas -- very different to the nebula´s appearance in visible light," mission officials wrote in an image description today

Roger Ebert loved movies. Except for those he hated. For a film with a daring director, a talented cast, a captivating plot or, ideally, all three, there could be no better advocate than Roger Ebert, who passionately celebrated and promoted excellence in film while deflating the awful, the derivative, or the merely mediocre with an observant eye, a sharp wit and a depth of knowledge that delighted his millions of readers and viewers. “No good film is too long,” he once wrote, a sentiment he felt strongly enough about to have engraved on pens. “No bad movie is short enough.”

Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) is sharing his regrets about his "fiscal-cliff" strategy, less than a month after the House bitterly swallowed a last-minute deal hatched in the Senate. In a private speech to the Ripon Society on Tuesday, Boehner said that he should have taken a different course after the November election by immediately demanding that the Senate produce a bill to avert the worst parts of a combination of tax increases and spending cuts that were due to hit on Jan. 1. Instead, Boehner delivered a formal speech at the Capitol on the day after President Obama won a second term,

Beyoncé did not sing the national anthem live at President Obama’s inauguration. Millions of viewers around the world were stunned by the singer’s spectacular rendition of the anthem but The Times has learnt that she was lip-syncing to a pre-recorded backing track. A spokeswoman for the Marine Corp Band said it was standard procedure to record a backing track and Beyoncé decided shortly before her performance to rely on the studio version rather than risk singing it live on the Capitol.

On Jan. 8, 1968,Otis Redding´s "(Sittin´ on) the Dock of the Bay" was released on Stax´s Volt label. Co-written by Redding and guitarist Steve Cropper, the single reached No. 1 on Billboard´s pop chart in March 1968, where it remained for four weeks. Two Grammys followed, along with the song´s induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. Redding never heard the single. On Dec. 10, 1967—just 18 days after the recording session—the 26-year-old singer died in a plane crash in Wisconsin, killing everyone on board except Ben Cauley, the trumpeter in his band.

In October we showed you this video, of a Norwegian kicker named Havard Rugland and his amazing kicking skills. The compilation exploded across the Internet and currently has nearly one million views. Even some NFL scouts took notice. And, to say the least, they were impressed. So the scouts asked kicking coach and former NFLer Michael Husted to work with Rugland in San Diego. After some training Rugland, who has never played American football, recently had a tryout with the New York Jets. "It went well," Rugland told Norwegian state broadcaster NRK. "They tested me on field goals and kickoffs. Source name corrected by staff.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
