'Cooling Out’ the Voters

Confidence men know that their victim — “the mark” — is eventually going to realize that he has been cheated. But it makes a big difference whether he realizes it immediately, and goes to the police, or realizes it after the confidence man is long gone. So part of the confidence racket is creating a period of uncertainty during which the victim is not yet sure of what is happening. This delaying process has been called “cooling out the mark.” The same principle applies in politics. When the accusations that led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton first surfaced, he flatly denied them all.

Comments:
And it will probably work. Sandy was the final distraction to make the Benghazi debacle "old news".

Sandy will prove to be a push. It has cooled off his get out the vote effort and has delayed the full exposure of failed policies in the Middle East.

"Gimmedats" will always vote Democrat/0bama.
"Conservatives" will vote Republican.
"Independents" are wishy-washy and have few fixed beliefs and such limited moral structure they can vote for whatever feels good.

This election is the "Makers" versus the "Takers" and will determine the direction the United States will take for years to come.

Alexis de Tocqueville: "... a democratic government is the only one in which those who vote for a tax can escape the obligation to pay it."

We have a con artist government.
We are daily conned.
And the steadfast hope appears to be that we can be kept in the dark by a compliant media, which takes their orders from the 5 AM briefing from Axelrod. It is because of the briefing that all the major news sources use the same language.
This is the Chicago way.
We are mushrooms.
You know what I mean.

And the Diplomatic Corps ("corpse") is clearly superfluous, just a bump on the road, and eligible for sacrifice in the interest of the Grand Design of the 12th Imam, Hussein.
So a few corpses along the way are just part of Allah's grand plan to bring us all under Sharia law.

Sigh. Too many Americans are buying a used car from this guy, and helping him push it off the lot!

The Innocence of Muslims video was clearly a red herring. Professor Sowell calls it again.

Colorado Gov. Hickenlooper signs
gun control package

Gov. John Hickenlooper signed bills Wednesday that place new restrictions on firearms and signaled a change for Democrats who traditionally shied away from gun control debate in Colorado - a state with a moderate streak and pioneer tradition of gun ownership and self-reliance. Hickenlooper´s signature of the bills comes exactly eight months after dozens of people were shot in a movie theater in suburban Denver, and on the same day as the executive director of the state´s Corrections Department was shot and killed at his home.

My favorite memory of Ed Koch is a moment from one of the Democratic presidential primaries of the Eighties. He was in his hey-day: mayor of New York, omnipresent media yak-in-the-box, grand rebbe whose hand had to be kissed by any presidential candidate hoping to score with Jewish voters not only in NYC but Florida as well.

Illinois Senate Democrats advanced legislation late Wednesday to restrict semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, pressing forward with new gun control measures in the waning days of the session over the objections of firearms groups. Amid the developments, the Illinois State Rifle Association issued an “urgent alert” to its members warning them that Democratic legislators were trying to push through last-minute anti-gun legislation.

My fellow expatriate, Piers Morgan, appears to be on yet another quest to embarrass himself, this time by taking the Constitution’s amendments one by one and demonstrating in public that he has no idea what they mean. In the wake of Bob Costas’s anti-gun rant, Morgan took to Twitter to complain about the Second Amendment: Piers Morgan ?@piersmorgan The 2nd amendment was devised with muskets in mind, not high-powered handguns & assault rifles. Fact.

This has been a presidential election that should be held up as a cautionary lesson for the future. The lesson? How low American politics can stoop, and how to avoid it ever happening again. The 2012 presidential race is fraught with confusion and failed expectations, so much so that it is surprising that any reasonable voter would feel comfortable pressing the button for either President Barack Obama or Gov. Mitt Romney.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose
