| At this point in an election cycle, many campaign staffers are busy fighting the press on what they call “process stories.” The candidates and their staffs want to talk about their plans and policies while reporters covering them find their audiences demand a play-by-play of the horse race. The result is constant overstuffing of campaign metrics and polling that only serve to muddy the waters for most political observers. In a close race, such as we have today, there is often plenty of data for both sides to use to their favor. One poll says this, another says that.

End result: 220000 less dems have already voted than in 2008, and 30000 more reps have voted. That means already 250000 fewer votes for obama in a state where he won by 260000 votes.

IIRC, Ohio cleaned out a lot of invalid registrations too. (The types of interest to fraudsters - dead, moved out of state, duplicate within state). Add this to the shift in early voting to GOP, and it's no wonder dems have wadded panties!

Anecdotal evidence: One week ago today, I was in suburban Cuyahoga county and Lorain county (Cleveland's westside). I saw more Romney/Ryan yard signs than Obama/Biden yard signs. Even more telling, dem candidates for down-ticket jobs are not including their party affiliation on their yard signs!
Obama is counting on early voting in the cities. To me, the 'big Mo' feels like it's swinging toward Romney. It's a city mouse-country mouse thing, and the city mouse is a discouraged voter.

Limited early voting started in Georgia last Saturday (meaning you had to go to the Election Office in your County).
Wider early voting started today (meaning more poll locations opened up)
Local news, twitter and FB all say lines everywhere are hours long.
Lots of Romney support.
Lets do it everywhere in every state.

The Internal Revenue Service’s targeting of conservative groups is outrageous. Those who did this should be fired immediately. That’s obvious. It continues a slovenly week for Barack Obama. The President has been very proud of the absence of scandal in his administration, and rightly so. The inability of his opponents to find any significant corruption in the historic $800 billion stimulus package was a real achievement, given the speed of the payout. None of his top aides have been caught up in taking bribes while in office

Former Gov. Mark Sanford completed the trail to political redemption tonight with a win over Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch to reclaim his old seat in Congress. With 71 percent of the returns in, Sanford led Colbert Busch 54 percent to 46 percent, according to Politico.com. Sanford could be sworn in as soon as next week to the 1st District seat he held for three terms. Henry Gribbohm says he lost his life savings, $2,600, on a carnival game and all he has to show for it is a stuffed banana with dreadlocks. “You’re expecting the kids to win a few things, let the kids have a good time,” said Gribbohm. “It just didn’t turn out that way.” Gribbohm says he attended a Manchester carnival run by New Hampshire-based Fiesta Shows and wanted to win an Xbox Kinect at a game called Tubs of Fun where contestants toss balls into a tub.

Chris Broussard usually offers expertise on fast breaks and zone defense, but on Monday he drove right into America´s culture wars by calling homosexuality "an open rebellion to God" and implying that gay people can´t be Christians. Speaking on ESPN´s "Outside the Lines," the basketball analyst and former New York Times writer was discussing NBA player Jason Collins, who in a landmark move just became the first active player in one of the major pro sports to come out as gay. Collins revealed his sexual orientation in a first-person Sports Illustrated story.

The paradox of American gun control got deeper Wednesday. Or, at least it appeared to. On the surface, the poll released by The Washington Post and Pew Research Center made no sense. Only 47 percent of respondents said they were "disappointed" or "angry" that the Senate last week failed to advance a bill to expand background checks to gun shows and online sales. Yet in February, a Pew poll found that 83 percent of respondents supported an expansion of background checks to cover gun shows and all private sales – measures that would actually be stricter than what the Senate rejected.

Watching President Obama’s fury after Congress failed to pass any gun-control legislation was a sign of his political helplessness. Despite aggressively pushing for expanded background checks, despite enlisting the victims of recent gun violence to lobby their representatives, despite getting one of the more conservative senators to support a watered-down background-check measure, he fell five votes short of getting anything passed in the Senate, including losing four members from his own party.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued.
