| With polls showing tight races in battleground states and Mitt Romney taking a narrow lead in the latest national ABC News/Washington Post tracking surveys, President Obama will take his message to young voters today during a half-hour interview on MTV. The MTV special comes a day after parts of Obama's one-on-one with Rolling Stone magazine appeared online, including an exchange in which he offered a colorful assessment of his opponent's relationship with the truth. "You know, kids have good instincts," Obama said, joking that he was "a killer" with the "six to 12" demographic.

Obama is a classic example of the phenomenon of attributing to others defects that belong to oneself. He is such a good example that he is almost a stereotype. A fictional character like him would be criticized as too pat, too simple, too illustrative of the moral to be believable. Almost every character attack by Obama on his opponents involves smearing them with his own glaring shortcomings. It takes some nerve -or near psychotic level denial- for Obama to accuse Romney of telling lies and of being a BSer. Yet Obama is apparently oblivious to what everyone else can see at once, that he is describing himself, not Romney.

WASHINGTON- Senator Elizabeth Warren has found a publisher two months after the Massachusetts Democrat began shopping her book proposal. A large majority of Americans hold a bleak outlook on the state of morality in the United States, as 72% said the nation’s moral values are “getting worse,” and only 20% said that moral values are “getting better,” according to a recent Gallup survey. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa on Wednesday displayed a string of emails showing his failed efforts to get an update from the Treasury Department inspector general’s office about its investigation into the IRS practice of targeting conservative groups who sought tax-exempt status. One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.
