Maya Angelou
pens Obama e-mail

Washington Post, by Rachel Weiner

Original Article

Posted By:Scottyboy, 10/24/2012 3:59:56 PM

Poet Maya Angelou has turned her talents on an unpoetic medium — the campaign e-mail — to urge supporters of President Obama to head to the polls. “I am not writing to you as a black voter, or a woman voter, or as a voter who is over 70 years old and six feet tall. I am writing to you as a representative of this great country — as an American,” she writes. “It is your job to vote. It is your responsibility, your right, and your privilege.

Comments:
Angelou became a renown poet for the same reasons 0bama became president. Never understood what this woman's "talent" was supposed to be all about. If I recall she was a strong Hillary supporter in '08 and jumped on Barry's bandwagon toward the end of the primaries. Stupid move lady.

My favorite Maya Angelou poem begins,
"There once was a man from Nantucket...".

How does anyone.. Even a very special , protected status person with an output of rather ordinary grievance angst .. Pen anything ? E mail is tapped..pounded or hit.. It is smacked around currency of the immediate..

Maya is one of the most talent free bad poets and her work makes my head hurt. I do not care who she votes for or if she votes at all. The witless moron in the wh must go and this election is too important to listen to her babbling.

Ms Angelou is to Poetry as Thomas Kincaid was to Art a triumph of mawkishness and marketing.

If she isn't writing as an old black woman why did she make it a point to remind everyone that's what she is? I notice she didn't remind everyone she's an untalented affirmative action "poet."

Oh Maya Angelou. Growing up in NC we were always force fed her garbage poetry in school. While living in Winston, I drove by her house on several occasions. Of course, when I say house I mean mansion situated on one of the most expensive streets in town. It was one of her THREE homes (complete with a Rolls in the garage) that was featured in the Wall Street Journal a few weeks ago. I don't have a problem with her real estate interests, she can do what she wants with her money. But I do have a problem with the fact that she is race baiter and an elitist who is worshiped by NC school teachers as the state's greatest writer. She's isn't.

Posted from my iPhone, please pardon any typos.

#1, that's priceless! I've never really appreciated poetry...but, then again, I never appreciated Maya Angelou for much of anything. Her stuff is like rap...senseless ghetto garbage that's hard on the ears. But, there IS an arse for every seat...I guess.

Hey look everyone, she made a success of herself (of some sort) with marginal talent and some sort of ability to get noticed, for whatever reasons. Go for it, Maya, though I find you tiresome and banal.

I don't know you or care to so buzz off and go sing kum ba ya along with your oh so hip drumming circle.

This move reminds me of how glad I am Oprah retired! Just think how she would've propped up this presidency the last few months! Maya Angelou would have been a big part of it. Now she's reduced to a campaign e-mail!

The real name of this prostitute-turned-"poet":
Margaret Ann Johnson.

Yes, Margaret Ann Johnson changed her name, and presto, became this exotic-sounding creature, "Maya Angelou."

But while it is easy to change your name, it's not quite such a sure thing to declare yourself a "poet" or a "journalist." (See Wikipedia entry on Ms. Johnson's many "occupations.")

Ms. Johnson may have fooled academics and publishers into accepting her self-proclaimed professions. Most of the rest of us see her for what she is: A fraud.

BUFFALO — A western New York man has pleaded guilty to filing more than 100 tax returns under the names of people who had recently died. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Buffalo says 42-year-old John Berry Jr. of Dunkirk pleaded guilty Tuesday to making a false claim against the United States. Prosecutors say he filed 122 false income tax returns in 2008 and 2009 seeking refunds totaling $218,000. Authorities say more than $92,000 was deposited directly into his bank account. Berry faces up to five years in prison when he’s sentenced in August.

Two Republican governors are urging President Barack Obama to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Internal Revenue Service´s admission that it targeted conservative political groups. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker call the allegations "Big Brother come to life." They want a special prosecutor to find out if any laws were broken and say Obama should fire any IRS employees responsible for the situation. The IRS has apologized for what it calls "inappropriate" targeting of conservative political groups. The agency targeted groups during the 2010 congressional elections and the 2012 presidential election.

In recent weeks, scandal after scandal has rocked Barack Obama’s administration. His presidency might be imperiled. Or it might not be.(snip)Doubtless, Obama did not want for any of these scandals to come to light. Now that they’ve arisen, though, they can be exploited to depict himself as a Washington outsider and his Republican nemeses as “the establishment” that has vowed to destroy him. Potentially, this strategy trades off short-term loss for long-term gain. Again, Alinsky is instructive here: “If by losing in a certain action” the organizer “can get more members than by winning

The Obama administration has an enemies list, and John Dodson was on it. The Justice Department’s inspector general concluded Monday that a high-ranking political appointee destroyed Mr. Dodson’s credibility and ruined a career. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
