CANTON, Mass. — A Massachusetts probate judge will hold another hearing Thursday before deciding whether to unseal testimony that GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney gave in the divorce case of Staples founder Tom Stemberg. Ex-wife Maureen Stemberg Sullivan appeared in court Wednesday with lawyer Gloria Allred. They said they didn’t object to a Boston Globe motion to lift an impoundment order on Romney’s testimony in the case from the early 1990s.

Comments:
This is the Allred sideshow. Still don't know exactly where this ding-bat is going with all this.

This is how Obama got Jack Ryan out of the Illinois senate race, unsealing his divorce records. Hopefully this judge has more stones, but I doubt it.

Straight out of the Obama playbook !
He did the same thing to the opposition when running in Chicago..Obama whore Allred ready to do his bidding.
ANYTHING to get the focus off the fact that Obama lied to the American people about the Embassy killings..Obama knew it was AlQueda, knew the killings were happening and went to bed.
Americans are in severe danger, because the media is helping Obama continue the lies. NO ONE is looking out for our safety under this administration.

Allred and Obama are messing with the wrong person. Romney don't play Chicago games.

There is no legal reason for the divorce records to be made public other than for the naked political goal of finding something to embarrass Romney with. There is nothing profitable for both sides of the divorce for the proceeding to be made public. If Gloria AllRed succeeds in doing so, it will open a whole can of worms for others to follow suit. This will make politics especially Chicago-dirty and set any hope of bipartisanship back just to keep NeroBama in power.

I don't see how Romney's testimony in someone else's divorce case is germane to the election, but go ahead Gloria, you irrelevant hack.

Reply 6 - Posted by: Susannah, 10/24/2012 11:35:05 AM     (No. 8957949)

I think the intent is to show that Romney lied on the stand about the true worth of Staples stock. Good luck with that one. Romney and Romney's lawyer have already said they don't care if the testimony is released.

Romney is represented by the ultimate Boston powerhouse law firm, Ropes and Gray. Little Gloria is not going to be happy at last that she tangled with this crew.

Did Gloria solicit this bitter hag to be her client? How many of the rules of professional responsibility has she broken? Why is she still licensed to practice law?

10 to 1 there is nothing there and Romney won't object. I expect it was sealed because there was sensitive financial and business information about Staples that they didn't want Staples' competitors to know. From the 90's? Pretty stale by now. Perhaps someone could sue Occidental, Columbia, and Harvard for all of Obama's records. Oh, and his passport files might be interesting as well.

Reply 9 - Posted by: killerbee, 10/24/2012 11:43:17 AM     (No. 8957991)

Allred's client is unstable, she's obsessed with the Romney's, and there's nothing "juicy" there at all.

I suspect the judge is giving this another day so it can stay in the media longer. The mystery is better than the truth. I'd love for the ex-husband and Romney to just say, "go ahead, unseal them, fine by me," so everyone involved has egg on his/her face.

This is about an ex-wife with a documentary and "tell all" book to sell. Someone who managed her divorce awards poorly and wants more. An honest media would snub her entirely. We don't have that.

Early 90's? The case was brought in 1987 and the record sealed in 1989 how is that "The early 90's"?

Chilling that sealed testimony can be unsealed. It will make anyone with a brain think twice about testifying.

Classic dirty pool: If the records stay sealed, the Dems claim it's because there is some deep, dark, ugly secret in them. If they are unsealed it will provide fodder for a two-week witch hunt as every word Romney spoke will be spun to have an ominous or incriminating meaning.

Reply 14 - Posted by: Rama41, 10/24/2012 11:58:06 AM     (No. 8958060)

It doesn't matter what's in the transcript. It's how the media will portray it. We can certainly anticipate more widespread coverage than Benghazi. The NYT will probably lead with it, whatever it is.

The ex wife already received a substantial settlement so why now? Oh, I see, this is the Boston Globe wanting to unseal the records. Wonder why it wasn't done before now? Gloria Allred is scum to the nth degree.

Romney has already announced that he doesn't object if his deposition is read by the public.

Reply 17 - Posted by: pearlyjo, 10/24/2012 12:14:15 PM     (No. 8958133)

Soooooo, after they are unsealed or kept sealed, or whatever, will my husband be able to get a job? Will we be able to re-stock our retirement fund dessimated by the last four years? Will our daughter be able to find a living wage job after graduation from college next year? Will my nephew come home from the Middle East permanently, and alive? Will I have health care I need/want or just whatever the government says I can have? Will my religious freedom be a thing of the past? Will my grandchildren be taught to read, write, and cipher or just how to put a condom on a banana and get rid of unwanted "tissue"? By all means, Ms Allred keep this up, what's in that testimony is so important to the American people.

Reply 20 - Posted by: GreatPlains, 10/24/2012 12:53:39 PM     (No. 8958265)

The ex wife is a poster at HuffPo.
She has posted over 2,000 times.
Many of of it rants against Republicans, Romney and Mormons.
In 1987 , she was was awarded 5 million in the divorce settlement.
Since then she spent 4 million in legal fees trying to get more money.
She lives in an apartment that rents for $ 5200/ month.
She said in a 2006 interview that she has multiple medical problems and needs psychiatric counseling.
The little boy is now 27 years old.
When Allred and this nothingburger is all Obama has , the campaign internals must be even worse
than we can imagine.

Funny how often Obama campaigns end up being about unsealing sealed court records.
I'd call Obama, Axelrod and Allred slimy little weasels, but that would not be fair to slimy little weasels.

BUFFALO — A western New York man has pleaded guilty to filing more than 100 tax returns under the names of people who had recently died. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Buffalo says 42-year-old John Berry Jr. of Dunkirk pleaded guilty Tuesday to making a false claim against the United States. Prosecutors say he filed 122 false income tax returns in 2008 and 2009 seeking refunds totaling $218,000. Authorities say more than $92,000 was deposited directly into his bank account. Berry faces up to five years in prison when he’s sentenced in August.

Two Republican governors are urging President Barack Obama to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Internal Revenue Service´s admission that it targeted conservative political groups. Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker call the allegations "Big Brother come to life." They want a special prosecutor to find out if any laws were broken and say Obama should fire any IRS employees responsible for the situation. The IRS has apologized for what it calls "inappropriate" targeting of conservative political groups. The agency targeted groups during the 2010 congressional elections and the 2012 presidential election.

In recent weeks, scandal after scandal has rocked Barack Obama’s administration. His presidency might be imperiled. Or it might not be.(snip)Doubtless, Obama did not want for any of these scandals to come to light. Now that they’ve arisen, though, they can be exploited to depict himself as a Washington outsider and his Republican nemeses as “the establishment” that has vowed to destroy him. Potentially, this strategy trades off short-term loss for long-term gain. Again, Alinsky is instructive here: “If by losing in a certain action” the organizer “can get more members than by winning

America should end its intervention in Syria or shift its support to President Bashir Assad. Iraq-based al Qaeda militants now control the rebellion. A shadowy terrorist named Baghdadi has moved from Iraq to northern Syria to control al Qaeda’s operations there. He is a grotesque savage, determined to compel acceptance of radical Islam through religious courts and executions.(snip)U.S. military intervention ended badly in Libya. Our ambassador was killed, and 20,000 Libyan anti-aircraft missiles went missing; they may still be in rebel hands. If al Qaeda topples Syria, they will capture large stocks of chemical weapons

The Obama administration has an enemies list, and John Dodson was on it. The special agent for the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) infuriated his superiors by alerting Congress and everyone else about the government’s gunrunning scheme called Fast and Furious. He had to pay for his act of good citizenship. The Justice Department’s inspector general concluded Monday that a high-ranking political appointee destroyed Mr. Dodson’s credibility and ruined a career. The IRS scandal provides Republicans and conservatives with the opportunity to repeal and replace Obamacare now. The House Republican majority should refuse to fund the expansion of the IRS necessary to manage Obamacare. Without that funding, and hiring thousands of additional agents, the IRS cannot even begin to manage Obamacare. President Obama may throw a fit. He may refuse to sign funding bills to keep the federal government open. No matter. Let him close his government down if he wants. Nobody wants the IRS playing political games with their health care and health records

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean.
