| Springfield’s budget director says the city is out of options to be reimbursed for expenses associated with hosting then-Sen. Barack Obama’s presidential campaign stop in the fall of 2008. “Short of suing the campaign, which isn’t really going to do anything — it would drag on forever — there’s really nothing we can do,” said Bill McCarty. “We’ve tried.” Obama introduced his running mate, Joe Biden, at the Old State Capitol in August 2008. About 160 police officers and nine civilians helped provide protection for Obama’s visit, according to an invoice from the city.

The chances of grandchildren are slim to none for Obama. He would not want to burden his two girls with kids, remember? May his family tree end with his kids. Many muslim families are centuries old and may his end without any honor or dignity. In my opinion, that would be a fitting solution to his actions and beliefs. His bloodline would just end and the gene pool would no longer contain any contribution from his line.

Send the bill to Michael Madigan since he controls the purse strings of Illinois anyway!

Maybe the campaign can send them some "Lean Forward, were not done with you yet" bumper stickers.

and if the Leader's IL campaign office were to contact Springfield for a ''last minute'' get out the vote rally, you know the city fathers would all grab their ankles. This is cover for consumption by Springfield citizens. Nothing more.
See folks - we tried to get your money back but no one will listen to us. okay. fine...

It appears a repeat is happening in 2012 after the Dem convention. A huge bill is outstanding. Good luck taxpayers. If you voted for him in 2008 and repeat the same in 2012-----well...........

A man, who got into a shootout with police during a brief car chase, also is dead, Illinois State Police announced at a brief news conference in Manchester, 50 miles west of Springfield, late this morning. The victims were found early Wednesday morning after a 6-year-old girl in the home called 911 about 4:30 a.m., said Illinois State Police Lt. Col. Todd Kilby.

Springfield, IL - Jake McNiece was gone before we even knew he was here. His name might not resonate with you. It didn’t with me until I heard that he had died. After that, it didn’t take long to learn Jake’s story. It’s worth learning. In a nutshell, he was the real-life model for Lee Marvin’s character in the 1967 movie “The Dirty Dozen.” Jake, 93, died in Chatham on Monday.(Snip) The actual group of WWII soldiers the movie is based on was called The Filthy Thirteen. They were rounders — not murderers and psychopaths, as Hollywood portrayed them, but brawlers and no respecters of authority. Source location and text added by Staff.

Gov. Pat Quinn Tuesday terminated the state’s contract covering members of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees union. Calling the move unprecedented in the 40-year history of state employee labor contracts, AFSCME issued a statement saying the termination has “little immediate practical effect, as all existing terms and conditions of employment remain in place under state law.” Headline split, location added by staff

If you visit Qik-n-EZ stores in Springfield, Lincoln, Pana, Shelbyville or Bloomington, you’ll see Clay Evers’ heart and soul perched near the cash register. That would be his Bacon Brownie, an individually wrapped square of fudgy goodness studded with three strips of chopped applewood-smoked bacon and sprinkled with sea salt. It sells for $2.49. “I call it a Ford truck. It’s made for the working man,” said Evers, 43, a former lobbyist, video producer and pig farmer. His family has farmed in Greenview for five generations.

WASHINGTON -- Doesn't matter how bad things look for the St. Louis Cardinals. Trailing by a bunch, down to their last strike, they simply stay calm and do what it takes to win. Erasing an early six-run hole in Game 5 slowly but surely, the defending World Series champion Cardinals got a tying two-out, two-run single from Daniel Descalso and a go-ahead two-run single from Pete Kozma in the ninth inning and came all the way back to beat the Washington Nationals 9-7 Friday night and win their NL division series.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state
