Massive study finds only 3.4% of
American adults identify as LGBT

A massive new survey published this morning reveals that only 3.4% of American adults publicly identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender, with the highest percentage coming among the younger, less-educated non-whites. The new Gallup Poll of more than 121,000 adult, the largest of its kind on record, wass conducted during the past four months. It finds the percentage of self-reported LGBT Americans to be much smaller than a general impression derived from their presence in popular culture and their perceived influence in liberal American politics.

Our nation's agendas are dominated by our minorities, far out of proportion to their actual numbers. LGBT is just one more trying to grab an oversize piece of the pie.

I've always heard 2%, but I can go with 3.4%. Whatever. I've never believed it was as many as they say.

3.4%, huh?
Wow. Then let's just cause massive upheaval to the other 96.6% of the population to cater to the elite LGBT community.
Let's change the military, create federal hate laws for local crimes, destroy marriage, force churches to violate their own religious beliefs, create a whole sub-culture to celebrate gay, establish gay-only schools, sue the Boy Scouts, have parades, broadcast gay-centric TV shows, and put up with incessant whining and bleating from LBGT's who want to perpetually play the victim card.

The LGBT activists should be ignored, and no special treatment should be given. At only 3.4% of the population, they probably represent a lower number of Americans than Albanian immigrants. And the volume of their voice in society should be turned down to the level of their representation in society.

The real story isn't that they are 3.4%. Its not that any group is any percent. The real story is that regardless of minority/majority, the US Constitution was written to protect the individual, not any or all "groups".

The truth at last. For decades, this group has propagandized about its numbers being much larger in order to justify the importance of its agenda.

There's a big difference between seeking to simply be left alone to follow your chosen lifestyle and relentlessly proselytizing and recruiting. They have turned our schools upside down trying to brainwash our children with their message.

Time to stop the nonsense.

Most people have a "I won't judge you if you don't judge me" attitude and whole nation is going to hell in a handbasket because of it.
Nobody wants to say what is wrong and what is right because we are all guilty of something. A nation can't survive that way, it needs rules, moral laws (which doesn't make people moral but protects the culture). It needs values and those values must come from God or we make up the rules as we go... socialism and communism is the end product.

Every study or analysis of this issue I have ever read pegs the number of gays in a given society at around 3%. It's not a choice, it's genetic. No amount of laws for or against someone's sexual orientation makes that number rise or fall.

It was 3% in Roman times, and 3% for the Puritans. It's 3% for the Muslims.

Aside from societal conditions that encourage or promote buggery (Islam and late Roman Empire), the genetic numbers are always around 3%.

The laws and screeching from activists on either side of the issue are just noise.

I know many will disagree with me. That's fine. Personally, I give as much thought to another's sexuality as the Constitution.

Even if it is genetic the person is not doomed to practice a wrongful act. My adopted son's genetic make up is full of addicted people for generations. And, yes, he did drink. But with help he is sober and saved and happy to fight his 'genetics' and win. 3 percent seems more right than the 10 liberals claim.

Ahhh yes - the "wrongful act" issue. What makes their sexual choices "wrongful"? In the 16th century, night clothes were made with holes in the groin that allowed sexual congress without being naked or having the other areas of skin touch.

Some people believe oral sex is 'wrongful' and some masturbation. Should we outlaw masturbation as some cultures and religious communities have? Calling your choice of religious text decrees 'moral' and other practices immoral is so Taliban.

It may be obvious I lean Libertarian. I have no problem with others choices as long as they do not infringe on my liberties.

The Communist plot read into the Congressional record in 1963 (read Wiki) encourages special gay rights as a way to break down the family, traditional family structure and the constitution....and usher in Communism into America....

The communist Obama is well on his way....and those 40 points listed line up EXACTLY with Obama's agenda...

And the list will grow as sex and companionship without responsiblity becomes a societal norm.

People opposed to gay marriage better start saying "yes" to gay unions or watch the national narrative put gay marriage in because of our own compassion to outliers.

Now how do you get that message through the heads of the hard right? Bending and cooperation can accomplish a lesser goal. Same way on anti-abortion. Going hard head on just makes another head butting opponent but incrementally? That is why the left won't budge on any type of abortion ban and the right on assault rifles. The old give an inch and they take a mile?

In this case, the head butt statemate on gay marriage is on path to losing ground as the general public is less and less against it. The ramifications of gay marriage vs gay unions? They can have protections without coloring and changing traditional marriage language and societal expectations and norms.

Make them equal and the kids will just think they are equal. They are much less gay averse and avoiding than older us.

All changes have hidden ramifications--consider gay marriage as obamacare, you have to pass it to know how it will affect us?

On the other hand, politically the case can be made that married folks have traditional rights and norms and years of tradition. Gay rights to throw fists should stop at our nose?

Begin the dialog or watch them win. Don't disband the Tea Party but use the fervor and awakening wisely to win? "Wise as a serpent and harmless as a dove?" Consider the other fellow? Add to that, tell them to consider the majority and settle for gay unions.

I believe no poll from Gallup, a democrat organization through and through. Cut that number in half, at least.

As an earlier poster said, that's about 10 million. 5 million of those are in the bay area, a million in New York, 2 million in Hollywood. Then there's the Florida Keys and one in the White House.

Well, that doesn't leave many for the rest of the country.

From watching TV and reading the MSM, one would think gays, blacks, and liberals were the mainstream, and made the majority of Americans. It's simply not true. The media doesn't represent us at all. They are pushing an agenda.

This FTA - "The special report found 3.4% of adult Americans publicly reporting themselves as personally identifying with those categories, 92.2% saying they do not and 4.4% refusing to say or claiming not to know."

And this - "Given the stigma often attached by some to those categories, some unknown portion of the Didn't Say's and No's presumably are choosing to remain in the closet, holding down the LGBT number somewhat."

Every minority tries to maximize it's minority status by claiming that it is under represented and demands that the majority bend over backwards to help those uncertain or ashamed of their status to self-identify. The second paragraph I've quoted injects this doubt into the survey results. However, as #6 says, isn't also possible that an unknown number of the 3.4% are experiencing LGBT behavior because, it's "cool"? Or maybe they are sybarites just doing it for the "thrill".

And this 3.4% has a lot of wealth. Which is why Obama played up to them so much. They also own a lot of the media so it's very difficult to disagree with them at all.

Their Socialist viewpoint is the biggest problem for me. It's all wrapped up in this emotional package and they -- the actual bullies -- manage to make everyone out to be a big meanie if they try to counter anything.

If I believe homosexual sex is a wrongful act it is my business. If you want no laws protecting anyone then that is your business. But, do not put 'law' words in my mouth. There is no surprise here.

About 15 years ago NPR/ATC did a report on a study called 'Sex in America' and the biggest surprise was that gays and their off-shots made of only 3% of the population, NOT the 10% their advocacy groups had claimed for 50 years.

This confirms what people who study this already knew.

California already had civil unions, so why do those on the left in CA demand marriage?
How does being "born that way" make bi-sexual a protected class? Why not the same argument for pedophilia?
Now many places have employment laws protecting LGBT. Why is being a flaming drag queen a protected class?

I have no doubt that there are probably another 2% of people who have those homosexual desires, but realize that they are bad/unhealthy/abnormal/immoral/destructive/etc, and chose not to give in to them.

I'm sure a lot of people have abnormal sexual desires at one or more times in their lives. But normal, mentally healthy people know that they cannot and must not give in to those desires.

Of course, those people don't have a huge and obnoxious bunch of lie-beral politicians to do their bidding for them like the homosexuals do...

A majority of gays come from a childhood with abuse/trauma. This is a fact- this fact explains why for most gays choosing this deviant lifestyle was most certainly a choice. Unless you believe having the mythical "gay gene" makes an individual irresistible to beat and sexually molest as a child?

#40 -- There was a recent article in the very liberal Atlantic Monthly that referenced a decade's (maybe longer) study of adults and sexual identification. It found that the percentage was 1.7% and may be "as high as" 2%. So, I can imagine that #29's statement is about as far off the mark as .7 to 1%. BTW, interestingly enough, the point of the Atlantic Monthly article was to say, "See, it's such a small group of people that changing the definition of marriage for them will not effect the overwhelming large majority of heterosexuals who value traditional marriage."

He´ll go out good, saving someone. Which is swell. But is this really necessary in a soiled age of cynicism, non-heroes and non-role models, lying leaders and downright criminals? It's already hard enough being a parent with all the unwholesome temptations at hand. Must we inevitably give up every enduring symbol of hope and good and fun for a one-month publicity splash?

There was plenty of talk in Washington this week about equal pay. The thing is — it was just that: more talk. As a woman who worked at McDonald’s to get through college…. as the mom of two young daughters … and as the elected representative of thousands of hardworking women, I have always supported equal pay for equal work. And if a woman is being paid less than a man because of gender discrimination, that is both wrong and against the law. The protections provided to women and others in the Equal Pay Act must be enforced to make certain there is no pay disparity because of discrimination.

Hi, everybody. Earlier this week was Equal Pay Day. It marks the extra time the average woman has to work into a new year to earn what a man earned the year before. You see, the average woman who works full-time in America earns less than a man — even when she’s in the same profession and has the same education. That´s wrong. In 2014, it’s an embarrassment. Women deserve equal pay for equal work. This is an economic issue that affects all of us. Women make up about half our workforce. And more and more, they’re our families’ main breadwinners. So it’s good for everyone when women are paid fairly.

He hasn’t paid grazing fees since 1993, and refuses to renew the necessary grazing permit.(Snip)Rather than using the avenues and pathways presented to him, Bundy has staunchly declared his own law and allegiances. Unfortunately, reality doesn’t work this way. If only it did—we could rebel for paying stupid taxes, refuse to

A group of seven multiracial Washington and Lee University (W&L) students are demanding the school remove all Confederate flags from campus and "acknowledge" General Robert E. Lee´s "dishonorable side." According to the Roanoke Times, "seven multiracial students, calling themselves ´The Committee,´" have also demanded the school "acknowledge and apologize for participating in chattel slavery." They want recognition of "Martin Luther King Jr. Day on the undergraduate campus" and an end to "neo-Confederates" marching across campus "to the Lee Chapel on Lee-Jackson Day." The students say they will "engage in civil disobedience" if their demands are not met by September 1st. They added: "The

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

To "honor the dignity and work of immigrants," Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi helps Bishop Marc Andrus wash the feet of two children Thursday at Saint John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in San Francisco. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." The Democratic leader´s ceremony coincides with Pope Francis´ similar ceremony in Rome to mark Holy Week.

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
