| Jasmine McIntyre is thankful for the social safety net supporting her and her unborn child at the Florence Crittenton home. Without the residential program for at-risk teen moms, she would have scant money, little education and a bleak future.Instead, she is pursuing a job and is ready to enroll in college courses.[Snip] The question of how much--and for how long--tax dollars should support social safety nets has garnered much recent debate, from campaign podiums to the homes of regular folks making do with less. An in-depth Pew Research Center survey in June suggested that people like Wilborn shouldn’t get her

Especially when they are being used less as nets and more as huge cots to sleep on.

Should the government help is the wrong question. The government has no money! The correct question is should our grandchildren pay for all their needs and pay for those who mismanage their lives. There has been only one divine birth, all others have been the conscious decisions of two adults.

It used to be, of course, common that people grew up knowing that preparing yourself for a career. Safety nets were for those who had circumstances beyond their control that required one to avail themselves, temporarily, of outside help, if they couldn't get it from family or friends. Now generations grow up with welfare as a planned institutional part of their life. Certain politicians, and so-called civic leaders, have no problem with this set-up, as these people are easily controlled.

I'd like to see a report on how much we taxpayers are spending on free potato chips, ice cream, and sugared sodas for the Food Stamp class. Easy in the low $Billions/year, maybe $25Billion/year.
If you have never seen it, just go to your local Walmart Superstore early in the month, before the Food Stamp cards are maxed out. The shopping carts are overflowing with junk. Our local Walmart has the biggest candy isle I have ever seen, and some of the most expensive chocolate I have ever seen, imported stuff. But I can't afford any of it. I am not on Food Stamps.

If there is no risk there's no reason to be responsible. If, in addition, the consequences of being responsible is that you get used, you will eventually give up.
These government "safety nets" are being used to haul us all in like a huge school of tuna.

I am supposed to feel sorry for and support a woman who has gotten pregnant TWICE, with no husband in sight and no way to support those children? This is a heartwarming story? No, it is not. If there was no "safety net" paid for with MY money, perhaps this young woman would have thought twice about getting herself into this. This article presents this like it is a normal, understandable thing to happen, and look! how the taxpayers save the day!
I ask the users of Food Stamps at the local grocery for thanks when I see them wildly spending MY money. They always look confused, why should I be thanking you, they ask. I explain that it is MY money paying for their groceries, money that I am forced to pay in taxes on what I earn. It seems to be a mystery to all of them as to where that money comes from. Some seem angry and and some just seem stunned.
One woman, hair straightened, manicured nails and toes, fashionable clothes, separated her food from her children's food, which she paid for with food stamps. She left the store and got into a bright shiny new black SUV...
This has to stop.

FTA: “My mom is not here, so I wouldn’t have had much information or many resources,”
What ghetto-bred lowlife welfare mama going to a diploma mill talks in terms of 'resources'?
She's been schooled well by the sociology majors of the social services rackets in milking the system if she uses language like 'resources.'

I work with people who have things figured out to the penny. One woman has two children, never married, & is currently dating "the man of her dreams" but will not marry him because she will no longer qualify for welfare benefits. Another woman, unmarried & pregnant with her second child is thrilled because the child is due on 12/31/12, which will increase her "tax refund". Two others have spouses that don't work because if they did their children will not qualify for the state's badgercare (welfare health insurance for children).
Take these "safety nets" away & every single solitary one of the people I've mentioned above will change their lifestyles. Yes, all support obama. Selfish, entitled, greedy, & proud of it.

Change the system and there will be no need for contraceptive coverage in Obamacare - they know exactly how to avoid pregnancy and they will if they get NO support what so ever!!

The real reason these ridiculous wasteful "safety nets" will NEVER be eliminated, the huge unionized bureaucracy that administers them.

#4 I also shop at Walmart(in the rural areas your choices are limited). It's a given if you follow a full, rounded-up, cart through the check-out that they will pay with a government card.
If you pay for yourself, you can't afford that much stuff.

Americans need higher taxes, to help them see reality. Hiding true costs with inflation, seeks to keep taxpayers ignorant.

Most people are unaware of how expensive and really stupid these "safety nets" are. My unemployed nephew (never had a job, age 39) lives with an 18 year old girl with two babies (not his). Since age 16 she has been coddled by having taxi's pick her and her babies up to go to and from the doctor. She is given a stipend to go to school (more taxi's). She attends school when it is convenient and has not been out too late the night before. She lays around using her 0bama phones texting all day long. The two black guys that fathered these babies are long gone.

People taking statins face an increased risk of developing diabetes, warn researchers. They found a 10 percent extra risk linked to taking simvastatin--the most commonly prescribed anti-cholesterol drug--which rose to 22 percent for those taking atorvastatin. Previous research into a suspected link with statins found a 9 percent rise in the chance of patients developing diabetes, but the new study looked at specific brands of drug. [Snip] Researchers identified 471,250 patients with no history of diabetes and who were newly treated with a statin, just over half were women and all were at least 66 years old. Statin therapy

The September 11 attacks on America was by no means the first act of terrorism carried out in the name of Islam. The 1993 World Trade Center bombings killed six, while the 1998 US embassy bombings of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and Nairobi, Kenya, left 223 people dead. However, the scale, horror and repercussions of 9/11--2,996 people dead, the World Trade Center destroyed and the Pentagon attacked--set it apart as a seminal moment that changed the course of history. [Snip] Subsequently, Islamist terrorists attacked Madrid in 2004, London in 2005 and Mumbai in 2008, among many other lethal and devastating

Attorney General Eric Holder personally signed off on the controversial search warrant that identified Fox News chief Washington correspondent James Rosen as a ‘possible co-conspirator’ in violations of the Espionage Act and authorized seizure of his private emails, an unnamed law enforcement official has claimed. Rosen, who has not been charged in the case, was the target of a search warrant that enabled Justice Department investigators to secretly seize his private emails after an FBI agent said he had ‘asked, solicited and encouraged … (a source) to disclose sensitive United States internal documents and intelligence information.’ The reporter´s emails were

The far right English Defence League last night declared itself “at war” with extremist elements of the Islamic faith. Members have already clashed with police and attacked mosques following the Woolwich atrocity. But in a disturbing statement last night it vowed to campaign to “cut the cancer of Islamic extremism” from society. It said on its website: “The terrible events in Woolwich were a reminder of something very few are willing to accept: we are at war. We need to clamp down on extremist preachers and the mosques that continue to host them.”

In a major speech to military and political leaders, Mr Obama said the US could not wage "a boundless global war on terror" but must face a new reality where threats come from regional jihadists and home-grown extremists. "Our systematic effort to dismantle terrorist organisations must continue. But this war, like all wars, must end," Mr Obama said. "That´s what history advises. That´s what our democracy demands." As he announced the most significant shift in US counter-terrorism since the fall of the World Trade Centre, Mr Obama said he would restrict his own signature policy of ordering drone strikes

If I had slept through yesterday, woken up this morning, and gone online, I might have thought the EDL beheaded someone. There is a lot of displacement on Twitter and FB, as if it´s all too politically difficult and socially awkward to talk about the killers´ ideology, or the place of religion in that ideology. So we talk instead about the EDL, or John Reid, or drones, or "the religion of peace" or say "Christians kill too" or "what about Anders Breivik", or, well, anything but the brute fact that the murderers, like so very many before them, shouted "Allahu

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose
