Vice President Joe Biden claimed that the administration wasn't aware of requests for more security in Libya before the Sept. 11 attacks on the U.S. mission in Benghazi during Thursday night's debate, contradicting two State Department officials and the former head of diplomatic security in Libya. In fact, two security officials who worked for the State Department in Libya at the time testified Thursday that they repeatedly requested more security and two State Department officials admitted they had denied those requests.
I feel like this question coming out first was a set up for Biden. If you noticed, she went to Ryan first, then Biden got to answer and basically lie, then she went on to other things, not giving Ryan the chance to contradict. If Im wrong, I stand corrected and I think Ryan missed a huge opportunity. Either way, dont think Obama will get away with this on Tuesday with Romney. For the first time, the presidents debate will address foreign policy. Up till the Libyan mess, Romney didnt have a lot to talk about. Now he can smack him where it hurts.
I agree with the above post at #6. I also believe that the Biden team was given the questions in advance by the liberal press. ... I wonder if I am the only person who noticed that Martha actually inserted herself into the debate, aiming her biased tongue at Ryan a couple of times.
Go to CNN and listen to Piers Morgan and Wasserman-Shulz about "lying" to the American people. She made a comment that is not included in the bit about "just telling the people what they 'need' to know. In other words, democrats lie!
#9 Martha tried to make the debate about her. Unlike Lehrer. She obviously took rudeness lessons from Biden. Many times when Ryan was in the process of answering a question -she cut him off. Apparently letting him finish his answer was not her priority. I'm glad she never attempted to bring decorum to the debate by trying to enforce some basic rules of behavior . Biden took this as his cue to run wild and the grimacing, sneering, eye rolling, rictus grinning , snorting and constant snide interruptions reinforced that he is just as unfit to be in the Oval Office as Obama is.
Re #2, Eric Norwood, who sent the cable from Libya requesting the security personnel, has specified that he used the word "request". This was abundantly clear from the testimony of the witnesses who represented the Libyan post at Wednesday's House Oversight Committee hearing on Benghazi security.
A for Biden, he is obviously far, far out of the loop as he denied there had been a request for security when that had been discussed thoroughly at the highly reported hearing on Wednesday.
His reason for being stuck on the video vs. terrorists position on the Benghazi attack may be traced back to DNI head James Clapper. Reported September 28th:
Director of National Intelligence James Clapper's office on Friday tried to explain the shifting public explanations for who was behind the deadly Sept. 11 attack on the American compound in Benghazi, Libya. DNI public affairs director Shawn Turner said U.S. intelligence concluded "in the immediate aftermath" of the assault that it had begun "spontaneously" in the wake of violent protests in Egypt.
"We provided that initial assessment to Executive Branch officials and members of Congress, who used that information to discuss the attack publicly and provide updates as they became available," Turner said. "As we learned more ... we revised our initial assessment to reflect new information indicating that it was a deliberate and organized terrorist attack carried out by extremists."
The point is this blathering idiot grimacing and smirking at Paul Ryan was distracting to the viewer . Paul Ryan on the other hand was calm collected and a real gentlemen even congratulated Biden after the debate.V.P. Biden LIED when he said he did not vote for the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars. For the record he did VOTE YES for both wars.Suming up Biden lost his cool and as a consequence lost this debate.
Maybe if Obama had attended national security briefings he would have known about the need for more security in Libya. If he was aware - or cared about - the ongoing threat, he wouldn't have to be told more security was needed.
Nancy Pelosi said the CIA lied to her. Obama and hilarynsaid it was a spontaneous demonstration because of a cartoon. Biden says there were no requests for more security- but if there were, they were denied because the Republicans cut the budget. Austrian Embassy requests and receives extra fund to buy a volt and green the Embassy. Our Ambassador and three other Americans are terrorized for six hours while the woman who denied them -Lamb- watched in real time??? Why did they want Ambassador Stevens dead??? What did he know that Obama - Hilary wanted him silenced???
I know it is easy to second guess the "man who is actually in the arena", but I wish our next VP would have said something along the lines of - "President Romney will not be going to bed when an American Ambassador is missing...but, of course, President Romney will not allow an American Ambassador to be in such an unprotected situation!"
One thing sure, and Dick Morris said it effectively today, the bombastic, 1950's style characature of a windbag politician, Biden, certainly is not the kind of bufoon that America needs a single heartbeat away from being the President. This guy is wierd. There was no winner, Ryan was too soft, but there WAS a loser in Biden's erratic, scary behavior.
The "inconvenient truth" is that, after several request, the requests for more security for our embassy in Libya were denied. At the same time our embassy in France had a detachment of Marines protecting it.
Now I know how hostile and dangerous Paris is relative to Benghazi. And, the Libyan government is far more capable of providing protection for our embassy than the French government. But, I do think a detachment of Marines would have made a difference in the outcome in Benghazi.
Ah, well! That's just "bumps in the road." Four bumps to be exact!
It was revealed that the State Depart was receiving real-time information about what was happening in Benghazi. This included the fact that all was quiet until armed men invaded the embassy compound.
If the “intelligence community” was reporting that this was a spontaneous demonstration for more than a week after the attack, it should be justification for firing the lot of them for gross incompetence. The same goes for all the State Department officials said the same thing. They should have known the truth since they had access to the real-time information. If they didn’t know, they were stupid beyond belief. If they did know, they were out-and-out lying! If the State Department withheld the real-time information from the intelligence community, heads should roll!
It is beyond belief that the Obama administration, State Department, and intelligence community didn’t know the truth from the get-go.
Perhaps if the quasi-Muslim, dilettante pResident had spent time with his daily security briefers instead of Joy Behar and Whoppie Goldberg, four brave Americans would not have had to die at the hands of Muslim terrorists on September 11, 2012.
The nation has been in peril from Islam for a long time, but never more than at this moment when we have a Mulatto Marxist Muslim Butt Boy in office.
I am so angry I could spit. All this administration can do is lie, lie, lie. I wanted to slap Plug's Chicklet teeth out of his mouth last night. And he's back on the campaign trail today telling more lies.
So Biden's excuse for him and Obama doing nothing to prevent the sacking of our embassy in Benghazi is ignorance.
They didn't know. And why would they? They don't attend security briefings, they don't start "working" until late morning if at all, and their main purpose in life is to collect money for their re-election campaign.
"I didn't know" and "I forgot" are the excuses of a seven year-old. But Old Joe acted almost twice that last night.
The “reality-based community” isn’t what it used to be. Progressives spent much of the George W. Bush years deriding the right for disdaining reality itself and waging an associated “war on science,” such was its purported hostility to evidence. The meme arose from a high-handed blind quote from a Bush senior adviser to journalist Ron Suskind; the adviser said that people in the “reality-based community” underestimated how the United States could alter the state of things through the exercise of its power. The left happily adopted the appellation “reality-based community.” (You can still find T-shirts and bumper stickers online.) It congratulated
Congressman Tom Rice of South Carolina, a Republican, is sponsoring a resolution in the House of Representatives that would, if adopted, direct the legislative body "to bring a civil action for declaratory or injunctive relief to challenge certain policies and actions taken by the executive branch." In other words, Rep. Rice wants to take President Obama to court for not faithfully executing the laws. "President Obama has adopted a practice of picking and choosing which laws he wants to enforce. In most cases, his laws of choice conveniently coincide with his Administration’s political agenda. Our Founding Fathers created the Executive
A frustrated press corps sounded off Thursday against White House press secretary Jay Carney over lack of access to President Barack Obama. Carney said the White House “is working” to address the concerns, noting that the administration has been meeting with the White House Correspondents’ Association. He did not, however, give further details about what steps are being taken to expand access. “I can commit to you that we are working and have been working on expanding access where we can,” Carney said. “Let me be clear, that is the view from the very top.” The issue of access has long been
WASHINGTON -- After a sweeping vote by conservative Republicans controlling the House and President Barack Obama´s Democratic allies, a bipartisan budget pact is in the hands of the Senate, where it will encounter stronger but probably futile resistance from Republicans. The modest package passed by the House on Thursday would ease the harshest effects of another round of automatic spending cuts set to hit the Pentagon and domestic agencies next month. Supporters of the measure easily beat back attacks on it from conservative organizations that sometimes raise money by stoking conflict within the Republican Party. At the same time, Democrats who were
SEOUL, South Korea -- The execution of leader Kim Jong Un´s uncle marks the unprecedented fall from grace of one of the most powerful figures in North Korea and the most serious political upheaval in the country in decades. Jang Song Thaek rose from municipal bureaucrat to vice chairman of the National Defense Commission and member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers´ Party - posts that put him in second in power only to Kim. A well-traveled operator with a network that spread to China, Jang was considered the chief architect of economic policy that
I haven’t completely made up my mind about it. So I’m just going to think out-loud for a moment. As Christmas presents go, it’s certainly closer to a really sturdy pair of socks than it is to a new bike. And that raises the first point I think people should keep in mind: If you’re of a mind to oppose it, fine. If you’re inclined to support it, fine. But can we please dispense with the overheated rhetoric about it? It is neither a triumph nor an abject surrender. Attempts to turn it into the Defining Issue of Our Generation (until the next one at least), do not help the GOP or the cause in any meaningful way I can see.
Let me add a word to my comments from Tuesday night supporting the budget deal. I continue to believe that, as a matter of policy, the defense increase—which at least begins to undo the very considerable damage from a wildly and disproportionately anti-defense sequester—swamps in importance everything else in the deal. Everything else is basically a wash. The defense increase is a real plus. I continue to believe that, as a matter of politics, the deal is very good for Republicans. If passed, it takes another government shutdown off the table, and allows Republicans to focus on fighting President Obama rather
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
Views of the tea party are at all-time lows in a new poll, as primary challenges to establishment Republicans continue to heat up Washington. Just 30 percent of Americans view the tea party favorably in a new Gallup poll released Wednesday, the movement’s lowest point since Gallup began polling about it during its rise in 2010. Also in a first, a majority of Americans had an unfavorable view of the tea party, at 51 percent. Similar numbers of respondents described themselves as proponents or opponents of the tea party: Twenty-two percent identified themselves as tea party supporters, while 24 percent said they
