| A Wisconsintate representative is under fire for sticking by his assertion that "some girls, they rape so easy". (Snip) The Chetek Alert paper quoted him in December as saying that his father had warned him "some girls rape easy" - meaning that some girls could decide later that sex wasn't consensual. He doubled down on the comments in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Wednesday, saying that he took his father's warnings about the dangers of premarital sex seriously."He also told me one thing, 'If you do (have premarital sex), just remember, consensual sex can turn into rape

Comments: Here is where you should be careful about quotes that can be taken out of context. But what he said is not the way that much of the press is trying to present it, including this story and it's headline.

What the media will say will be ludicrous, at best.

"Rape," folks, is no longer a concept we can pretty much agree on...now that trial lawyers have nuanced it to unbelievable profitability.
Rivard's family must've had money. Thus, the concern about a 'rape' charge. Fortunately, we were poor...and Catholic. My Dad lectured me about pregnancy...and having to go to Confession on Saturday.

Republicans have this habit of making true statements in a bad way. Then somehow, the press infers the exact opposite of what was actually said.

I'm sure he was pointing out the difference between true rape and claiming rape. No one will condone violent rape, which most times it is. But why tolerate false charges of rape? Perhaps he should have phrased it "the CLAIM of rape is easy" and it is.
How many men or boys have been trapped and convicted wrongly merely because the girl claimed rape?
I attended a Court trial where a girl claimed rape. Of course all the self righteous raised their usual hatred without facts. During the trial the defense attorney asked, all of the men or boys who have had sex with this girl in the past 60 days stand up. Ten boys stood up. The case was quickly dismissed. She was truly the school whore. She only claimed rape because he wouldn't buy her things so she decided to get even with him. How sad the self righteous would support such a thing.
I remember in the 60's when it was a time girls/ladies would claim they were pregnant just to hook a guy into marriage so they wouldn't have to work. Yes that is sleazy but it was happening. Two of my friends got caught that way. That is when I chose to have a vasectomy. Problem solved.

I think he was awkwardly talking about false allegations of date rape. Colleges have this problem, where the boy and girl hook up, have sex, next day she doesn't feel right about it, and claims date rape. Michael Tyson, the boxer, was guilty of nothing, in my opinion, than a lack of politeness to the beauty contestant who, after they had coitus, was not walked to the lobby of the hotel. William Kennedy Smith was also the victim of what was sort of a date rape allegation. The young woman lied. But unlike Tyson, Smith did not have to go to prison. Each was equally innocent.

Thank you, #7.
And regarding the town "whore," that judge was out of line. Whether or not she slept around should be irrelevant. Rape is rape.
Women who make false claims cheapen the real thing. And apparently egg on many individuals to believe false claims happen a lot.
And Rep. Rivard isn't too smart to talk about this, especially in light of Rep. Akin's remarks.

#15 Hard to see how one might view Will K. Smith a victim. He was acquitted, but then, so was O. J. Three other woman offered to testify that he had assaulted them, but were not allowed to testify.
He also dodged one civil suit, and settled another. That makes 6 separate allegations of sexual assault. I am a similar age to WKS and have never been accused of assault, sexual or otherwise. If he is innocent, that's one extraordinary streak of bad luck with woman.
It isn't/wasn't bad luck. He is a rapist with very deep pockets, and it doesn't hurt to have Roy Black defending you.

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

CNN’s Peter Hamby reported that Mitt Romney‘s internal polling showed President Obama leading in Ohio by five percentage points.Per Hamby’s post: The number represented a sharp final bump for Obama in Ohio, a race that had essentially been a tied race through much of the previous week, according to the campaign’s daily tracking. The polling, which also showed a tight race in Pennsylvania, explains why Romney officials decided to send their candidate on last-minute Election Day visits to Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

The Obama and Romney campaigns may be gearing up for a very late night, with one Obama campaign adviser predicting that in Florida alone, "they'll be counting until 2 a.m." The Obama adviser said signs suggest the race is quite tight, though the campaign claimed to be "holding strong" in key battlegrounds like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The adviser also said turnout among black voters in Virginia was better than expected, suggesting that could be a problem for Mitt Romney. Republican operatives in Virginia, though, predicted a razor-thin victory for their candidate in the state.

Washington - Early returns on Tuesday in what is anticipated to be a dead even presidential election contained no surprises, as CNN projected President Barack Obama will win his home state of Illinois and eight other races while Republican challenger Mitt Romney will win nine states. All races called so far went as expected after the roller-coaster ride of an election campaign that was buffeted by a superstorm and missteps on both sides. Obama and Romney ran dead even in final polls that hinted at a result rivaling some of the closest presidential elections in history, reflecting the deep political

A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. Twenty-six percent named Sandy as an “important” factor, and 15 percent said it was the “most important” factor in their decision.

Mitt Romney is leading among independents in both Ohio and Virginia, early exit polls show. In Ohio, the former Massachusetts governor takes 56 percent of self-identified independents, compared with 40 percent for President Barack Obama. That’s a huge decrease for Obama from 2008, when the exit polls found him winning independents in Ohio by 12 points, 52 percent to 44 percent for John McCain. The numbers are similar but slightly tighter in Virginia: Romney takes 53 percent of independents there, according to ABC News exit polls, a 12-point lead over Obama. In 2008, Obama won independents in the state by

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. Five months into his second term, allies and enemies are as confounded as ever about who President Obama really is. Is he the dyed-in-the-wool liberal that his biggest supporters and critics suggest? Or is he a pragmatic, even cynical, politician who cares more for his popularity than taking risks for his ideological goals or living up to his rhetoric? Even in the short period since his reelection, Obama has provided evidence to support conflicting interpretations. His efforts to pass immigration reform, the unsuccessful push for stricter gun controls and tax hikes on high earners buttress the case for Obama-as-ideologue.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Politico’s Playbook has an excerpt from a new Ryan Lizza piece from the New Yorker that is not yet online. It contains a passage on the back-and-forth between labor and the Chamber that has a quote from a Rubio staffer that is going to raise eyebrows, to say the least: “There are American workers who, for lack of a better term, can’t cut it. There shouldn’t be a presumption that every American worker is a star performer. There are people who just can’t get it, can’t do it, don’t want to do it. And so you can’t obviously discuss that publicly.” Here is the entire context:

Iran is preparing to send 4,000 troops in to Syria to support Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the wake of America´s announcement it will be providing ´military aid´ to the country´s Muslim rebels. President Barack Obama made the pledge earlier this week after the U.S. claimed it found ´conclusive evidence´ Assad´s regime has used chemical weapons against the rebel forces--which includes the most extreme Sunni Islamists--and has called for Britain and France to back the move. While Britain hasn´t made a guarantee either way as yet, more than 350 Royal Marines are being sent to Jordan
