| Germany plans to abandon nuclear power by 2022, but its government hasn't been doing enough to ensure that the project succeeds. Needed infrastructure and technology is lacking, and coordination is a mess. Meanwhile, weary consumers are paying more for electricity, and the supply is in jeopardy. German Economics Minister Philipp Rösler is standing in the boiler room of a row house in the town of Hönow, near Berlin. (Snip) With the government driving up the price of electricity, Rösler seems to feel an urge to make himself useful by dispensing advice on how to save money and energy.

Yeah, drive up the price of electricity for people and businesses. That's how you remain a manufacturing and exporting giant. NOT. Anyone thinking Germany can't be turned into Spain, guess again. Can you imagine trying to grow meaningful amounts of biofuels in Germany? And I can't wait to see what all their wind turbines eventually do to their weather patterns and local bird populations.

This is the Democrat model - drive up the cost of electricty, gasoline, heating oil, every input for industry and consumers.
Romney should turn this over and site how low-cost energy will help businesses to be competitive in the global market.
How it will be the driver that helps allow for good wages and benefits.
And how it will reduce the expenses for consumers.
This trancends across every state.
Also, how producing more in U.S. will mean we lower our trade deficit, keep $$ home ciculating in the U.S. economy not the Middle East.

The reluctance to adopt simple, ready solutions is all that makes this a problem.
Here's an answer. Just ban any one of the following --
a. fractional-horsepower electric motors
b. electric lights
c. electric railroads, elevators, escalators, and gasoline pumps
Try it yourself. It's fun.

The eventual plan is for the Germans to buy power from the neighboring Czechs. The key is this: can the Czech Republic (with Russian help) build enough Russian-designed Nuclear Reactors quickly enough to replace the ones the Germans are planning to shut down?
Sounds crazy but that is the only way things are going to work out - unless the Germans go for coal Big Time.

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

The Obama and Romney campaigns may be gearing up for a very late night, with one Obama campaign adviser predicting that in Florida alone, "they'll be counting until 2 a.m." The Obama adviser said signs suggest the race is quite tight, though the campaign claimed to be "holding strong" in key battlegrounds like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The adviser also said turnout among black voters in Virginia was better than expected, suggesting that could be a problem for Mitt Romney. Republican operatives in Virginia, though, predicted a razor-thin victory for their candidate in the state.

A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. Twenty-six percent named Sandy as an “important” factor, and 15 percent said it was the “most important” factor in their decision.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement
