Obama was given a hand up in everything he did. I don't see what happened to him as Affirmative Action in the same way that many blacks were admitted to college or promoted simply by the system because of skin color. Obama was chosen by a select few elites to become what he has become. He didn't participate in AA programs. He was the product of specialized grooming by rich elites. It is more like a form of cronyism.

If people living in America today are responsible for what happened in previous centuries, is Dyson responsible for slavery in Africa today? Apparently he feels sharing a skin tone makes you libel for actions in the past, seems you would have even greater liability for actions in the present.

Affirmative action is a pig that no amount of lipstick can disguise. Americans recognize intuitively that it is inherently unjust and irrational - and that it perpetuates the very thing it aspires to combat, racism. When individuals are evaluated and judged on the color of their skin it is racism, regardless of the purported motives of the scheme. The remedy for racism is not more racism. The remedy for racism is to treat individuals AS individuals. All black people are not alike. It is an insult to them to maintain that skin color constitutes "diversity." One can be confident that when people talk about "diversity" what they actually mean is uniformity. All whites are this way, all blacks are that way, all Latinos are the other way, etc. Then there are homosexuals, Muslims, Wiccans, and all the other categories and collectivities that exist only in the mind. The "diversity" racket is collectivism through and through. It is the great scandal of America's universities that this wicked and corrupt cult had its birth and continues to draw its nourishment from the very venues in which critical and independent thinking was once upon cherished.

The word "diversity", another favorite of the liberal left, is nothing more than dumbing down - everything!!

Africa consisted of tribes who were all black and they fought constantly. They also took captives and sold them into slavery. The word diversity is interesting. The argument for diversity is that it adds to the intellectual fabric of a university campus. So affirmative action is applied to bring in diverse people.
Here is what happens in most cases. Black separate orientation for new students, black separate graduation for those AA cases, where they wear kinte cloth to remind us they are of african descent.

In the classroom, blacks tend to sit together, and do not choose to enter into the diverse discussions they are supposed to bring to the campus. And when they eat at the cafeteria, they sit together, isolated from whites. And they have their own fraternities and sororities, and in one black fraternity, as part of initiation, the bruthas actually brand with a hot iron, the arms of the inductees. But no university bans that practice as inappropriate hazing.

IQ data can be culturally distorted, and on top of that - some of the most intelligent Caucasians I know have scored at moron level on IQ tests, my super-intelligent and successful father included. Furthermore, recently a poster here identified him or herself as black, and conservative. Call me a goody goody, but I wonder how they would feel if they read the post about IQ's....

First, while "IQ" and modes of measurement are hardly physics-rigorous, there's no question there is innate intelligence; no question that individuals possess it at differing levels; that more is better than less; and that it can be tracked, or be found to track with, certain other definable factors. As can other human characteristics like height, hair color, the propensity for left-handedness, lactose tolerance, and more.

"Cultural distortion" is an old canard. But maybe those attacks had it backward? Maybe generally-higher intelligence helped produce valuable cultures?

Single-data-point anecdotes don't provide information, especially about population-wide characteristics, which are the subject of #18. Further, any number of factors can be at work in the anecdotes mentioned. But the anecdotes cited do stipulate high intelligence, thus the examples actually reference dissonance between some reported individual IQ scores and observed levels of intelligence in certain individuals.

Last, subjective emotional reactions, already stipulated to be conjectural only, can't have, and can't be permitted, standing to reject, or perhaps worse, to suppress, legitimate, independent-third-party data. Thanks.
